Looking at rookies under $200k who WILL/MIGHT play round 1, I have:

Hampton, Otten, Hibberd, EVW, Stewart, Smith, ZGuthrie, Macreadie
Taranto, Ainsworth, Brodie, Bowes, Florent, SPP, Barrett, Miles, Pickett, Greenwood, Parfitt, Atley, Lloyd
Preuss, English

Turner, Stewart, Simpkin, Schoenmakers, Black, Durdin, Butler, Houston, Eddy

Not playing round 1:

Cameron

Took the JLT spreadsheet and tweaked it a bit. This is the list of rookies under $150K who played at least 2 games and scored over 40 pt average and 50%TOG.

Is having 3 200k+ rookies a bad idea? Never started with this many out of all my years playing SC.

Only had Taranto all preseason, but now I've brought in Marchbank & WHE, as I'm skeptical on most of the 123k rookies' job security.
My only other relatively expensive rookie is Hampton, rest are around the 120k mark and below.

What's your thoughts on Taranto's job security, I know he's a near lock to play round 1 but you reckon he can hold a spot down considering the mid talent GWS has?

If he plays well, he should hold his spot over the first few rounds. Then the only reason I can see him being dropped is to make way for Coniglio once he returns.

Hopefully he gets a good start and makes some cash early

Why are people comparing a skinny running wingman to a fast, tackling small forward???

Also Menapoo was $155k, whereas Butler comes in a cool $30k cheaper
I just dont trust Richmond rookies altogether, Dimma always brings them in and out and in at random times, they hardly get a good run at it

I've already got Taranto, Turner and Florent on field with Eddy and Butler on the bench. Don't think the Turner or Simpkin choice will be an issue for my set up.

Turner seems to have better js than florent though.

I have all though because taranto is in my middield.

Taranto is in my midfield too. Looks the best rookie of all to me.

Re: Florent
From last years GF team forward line:
Reid a straight swap for X.Richards.
Spuds like Towers & Cunningham come in for Rohan & Papsmear.
Le Florent will take McGlynn's spot, it will be his to lose IMO.

Daniel Lloyd from GWS interests me.
Bottom priced, mature aged, strong bodied, solid JLT form and has just been promoted off the rookie list.

Almost definitely will not debut unless there's some serious injuries in GWS's immediate future. Probably third or fourth in line.

Good to hear. He was in my team anyway but now I feel better about it hehe.

I've done some sums to help decide between low/med/high price rookies, in terms of cash gen:

Player: Price: Avg. Required to Appreciate $150k by R9
Jaeger O'Meara: $318,900: 98
Will Hoskin-Elliot: $213,300: 77
Tim Taranto: $207,300: 75.5
Jack Bowes: $171,300: 69
Dan Houston: $117,300: 58

Trend line for the above averages

Actually making me rethink WHE.

Gaining 150K for you rookies is pretty much required, if you cant make that out of your rookies you are on the back foot. WHE will play, but needing to average 77 to go up 150K is something I am not confident in.

Of all the 2017 rookies, who do you guys tip to generate the most cash? Who's gonna get the most opportunities and who's ready made for regular league footy?
Eddy. Lowest possible start price, will get the opportunities in Port forward line, is something like 27 years of age already and has been playing in SANFL for quite a while.

If you don't have him in your SC team, you have rocks in your head.

Small forwards from bottom 4-6 teams make me nervous - Butler and Pickett fit in this category. And Richmond have a recent history of providing us with some frustrating rooks - Relton, McDonough, Lennon, Ellis, Menadue.

Not sure which of these two pushed further up the ground during JLT, a heatmap would have been useful. I'm guessing it was Pickett. Butler probably has the stronger work ethic - tackling, forward pressure, 1%ers - but Pickett boasts the natural talent and better JS.

Chances are that I'll end up with both of them though, split across two lines.

Fair enough. Caro hasn't played the game. At least she knows her limitations.
Has she ever written a single article about a football match? One article describing or analysing a game? If not, she's not a football writer, merely a gossip columnist promoted to "chief" football writer by the politically correct *******s at fairfax. Slobbo isn't much better but at least he has written somewhat on actual football and not solely on peripheral horseshit. I put her on the same level as a Craig Hutchinson, bottom feeding muckrakers.
Yes, if only we could all be so wise...
