I know the season isn't officially over but I've seen in multiple threads discussions on what people think needs to change moving forward. So I thought I'd try and bring it all together in one place.

For us to rebound back up the ladder in 2017 and reverse this continual slide what dose the club need to do in the off season to turn it around?

Options in the poll above. As always please feel free to correct anything I've got wrong.

For me I believe it's a combination of the fitness team and the assistant coaches. I can't accept the 'our season was savaged by injuries' for a third successive year without major changes being made.

If injuries are the reason change the fitness program/staff, if it's not move on some I the coaches. I understand there's been minor changes but clearly nothing is working. We need to starting making some bigger moves.

Though I'll be the first to admit I'm not 100% sure I know what they are.

A key advantage we have over other clubs is our financial position. I have posted in other threads that strong teams like Hawthorn have ruck coaches and sports psychologists, resources that we lack. We claim to be the biggest team with the best facilities, but I feel there is major room for improvement in how we can utilise our financial advantage.

For a team with such a strong midfield on paper, we are terrible with centre bounces and clearances. A ruck coach and possibly new midfield coach should be considered.

New fitness staff seems like a no-brainer to the outside eye. Something about our training is making players' hamstrings explode, this must be rectified.

I'd like to see Dale Tapping promoted to an assistant coach role next year, possibly senior assistant. Has a good enough track record with the VFL and I think he'd be a big improvement.

SMALL.

CRUMBING.

FORWARD.

Elliot and Fasolo = not the answer to this need of a change.

I want a small ******* crumbing forward right ******* now.

Also a fast medium sized HBF with elite skills.
A 196 plus KPD with elite foot skills to start developing.
A 194 to 198cm contested KPF to partner our plethora of less mobile and skinny uber talls.
A classy break the lines mid.

Yep we have a few holes.

I appreciate what you're saying and yes, he could well be worthy of a promotion of such, however I can't help but feel as though we need some more coaching experience from outside of our inner sanctum.

I think Hawthorn's assistants have been sucked too dry recently, so I'm not sure if they have many left other than Ratten. I'm thinking your North Melbourne, Sydney, Geelong type assistants.

Great valid point.

I was just looking at the upward swing our VFL team has taken in recent years compared to our AFL. Yes we haven't won a VFL flag but the structures seem better.

It's hard to attact decent assistants when the club/head coach is struggling as it can be a career killer.

On top of this most assistant coaches want to work with the best to gleen off them and then hopefully get a top gig.

MM attracted talent because he was a revered coach made it easy.

We would need to offer big dollar contracts atm imo to get Ratten, Dew or the like across.

Id be looking at former head coaches in Ayers and M.Williams to help guide Buckley.

You mean the same M. Williams that is helping Dimma?

Yep the premiership winning AFL coach.
Williams isn't an assistant at rich he works with their 1st to 3rd year players as a development coach last I heard.
He also did well at GWS helping develope and lay the foundations of their core group.

Not sure why there is so much hate for choco on here.

Spot on.

If I'm Chris Maple (doing fantastic work with the Dogs) and Collingwood comes knocking to be a senior assistant under Buckley why would I move? If by the grace of God Buckley survives 2016 what long term prospects does Maple then have if things don't turn for the better in 2017? It's far safer to stick with the winner than moving on to a corpse that someone's trying to reanimate...

Not saying to sack anyone, but 3 (definitely more) things need to be fixed.
Game plan / structure
Skill / development
Fitness / Injuries

My 2cents
I'll see my self out.

Oh the ironing. Fans of the current coaching group begin the discussion about Buckley and then circle jerk once they make it about him! What a time to be a poster on the Collingwood board!
