Fingers crossed the Saints win one more before the season is out. And they may...due for a win soon, and they did draw with the Giants and beat Melb, so anything is possible. Even if we beat GC, and lose the other two, we will still get 4th hopefully.

Why?

As much as we would all like to get pick 2, it would be completely unfair if we were to end up with a better pick than this Gold Coast side. Laughably so.

Not about getting pick 2 about hopefully landing 1 of lukoscious, Walsh , smith or rAnkine. If we go above saints we likely to fall into the second tier of mids. Not sure we would go RCD when we can get another bid bodied mid in McFayden through academy . Can you imagine a forward line sign Hipwood, Cameron , Rayner and rankine in it .

I think we win 1 more game and may end up with pick 4 or 5 but we then turn our attention to securing walsh and that will mean trading up to 2 or 3 with the gold coast more likely. Say we end up with pick 5, we trade pick 5 and a player to gold coast for pick 2 and a swap of picks in 2019 ( our 3rd for tgeir 2nd round pick) They will jump at still securing a gun talent at 5 and get a player for doing so. Which player that would be from the lions thats going to help the gold coast and not dent our playing stocks thats the question.

One thing is for sure we cant let a player slip from our reach who would fit into our midfield beautifully, whose dreamed of playing for the lions and is the most talented midfielder in this draft per basically every expert under the sun.

Why would gold coast even entertain that. Dropping places in the draft for a second rate player isnt worth it, never mind then dropping back in next years draft as well. If we wanted to pull off that kind of deal you have to give up something for it.

Suns much more likely to trade away one of 2 or 3 to crows.

Yeah it would have to be a better than second rate player.

I come with all respect however would Sam Mayes be this player ? Seems to be on the outer at the lions, that seasoned body that the suns are crying out for ? Maybe Lester ?

Love what your club is doing and not long till the Gabba ( if it’s not already ) is a feared playing venue again.

Can't see them being interested but would definitely entertain offers.

I dread this board if we lose to GC.
lol there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth among most of the populace, while a small bunch in the back corner will be rubbing their hands in glee with a manic grin on their face.

Neither player suits the type of player the Suns desperately need. The Suns need their own Ollie Wines or Patrick Cripps.

If the Suns land picks 2 & 3, and both Smith and Walsh are still on board (i.e Carlton draft Lukosius), the Suns are drafting both and sitting back slapping each other on the back.

Only way the Suns are giving up one of their first picks, is if Carlton draft Walsh or Smith, and Adelaide pay way over the odds for pick 3 to draft Lukosius. If a team is going to offer the Suns a player as part of the exchange, that player is definitely going to have to be a top 15 list quality player, and preferably a youngish inside contested midfielder.

I don't think we'll get a chance at the elite this draft, though really no one is off the table when you consider live trading will be in play.
TAC cup gonna be highly interesting now. Would love an Oliver style bolter.

If the top 4 is Lukosious, Walsh, Smith and Ranking (in no order) then l really can't see us grabbing any of them unfortunately. Have to look at the next group.

We might end up with pick 4. The Saints will bust their arse to get a win before the years out, even starting with this week, I wouldn't be writing them off against the Dons given they have stuff all chance of finals now. But if we don't, meh, so be it. We all get wrapped up in the draft, but often the best player doesn't come from the top few. Except last year. Rayner will be the best :)

And don't be surprised if GC take a tall as well as a mid, even if May does stay. It wasn't so long ago that quality talls were what were taken early in the draft with the mindset that quality talls are hard to find but you can get mids pretty much anywhere in the first couple of rounds. A lot of the predictions of what Gold Coast will do are just as much driven by what we don't want them to do.

Would this work ?
Bris give up pick 5, 2019 2nd round pick and Lewy Taylor -
Gold coast give up pick 2 and there 2019 3rd round pick.

Atm I am pretty confident Rankine will get drafted before Smith.
Depends who is drafting.

I can see GC going both Smith and Walsh before Rankine.

Carlton won't go Rankine.

Think the Saints draft a King before considering Rankine.

Brisbane, well Conole was pretty clear we'll draft the best player regardless of position at our first pick.

Because a few people I touch base with in the industry believe Rankine is the 2nd best player behind lukocious in the draft. Smith is highly rated dont get me wrong, but i think he is more seen as the 5-7th best talent in the draft.

Our other option is we trade up with Carlton to go number 1 and take Walsh over Lukocious ???
