He is contracted till 2020 so I would think he would be at training.

Good kick up the backside if Allison is coasting. I doubt he'll forgo 2 years of contract security as part of any move like Lyons and new club might be reluctant to pick up 2 for him. Our reality check ploy might work overall, expecting to see a motivated Allison next year.

Defensive dearth sees Kosi 2.0 shape as top-30 pick - http://m.afl.com.au/news/2018-11-09/defensive-dearth-sees-kosi-20-shape-as-top30-pick

A LACK of tall defenders in this year's NAB AFL Draft could see Jacob Koschitzke, the cousin of former Saint Justin, be a top-30 pick when names are called in two weeks.

Gold Coast and Brisbane have been linked to the 18-year-old, who was named an All Australian defender after a strong championships for the Allies.

I'm doing a group phantom draft over in DTFA, took Duursma first up, I figure we can use his speed off half-back. Thoughts?

Jones, Stocker and RCD were all long gone.

Nice. It would be great if he slid to us in the real thing. Probably a little out of our range.

Can wce match a bid of our pick 35 for Cameron? They have very late picks after 22

Pick 35 is worth 522, they’ll get the 197 discount meaning they’ll need to match the 324. Pick 61 and 72 are worth 150. Meaning they’ll be looking at taking a 170 odd point defecit off their 2019 second rounder.

I believe we’re more covered with inside mids now, but shallower on outside run from genuine midfielders.

We’ve got Cutler and Taylor as our proven outside mids, with Allison in the ressies.

Otherwise the other players offering outside run really perform better in a different role, ie Cameron as a small forward or McCluggage in that link role.

I’ve said it befor, I believe our first pick falls right in that zone where we’re either reliant on one of the second tier mids falling to our pick, or we’re possibly selecting a player who offers genuine skills in a position that we might not be a top priority, ie Jez McLennan, Sam Sturt or Zac Butters.
Draft Tom and you have both an inside contested ball winner and a jet on the outside... 2 birds with one stone. ;)

Duursma was excellent in the Championship. Caught the eye and runs hard.

A few phantom drafts following a pretty set order now for the top 5. Walsh, Luko, Rankine, King, King. Some even have Rozzee heading interstate as well. Will be interesting to see if it plays out like that and a heap of the SA talent heads elsewhere.

Geez Port spent quite a bit of currency to move up to 5 in a SA friendly draft. I’d be feeling a bit crook in the guts as a Port fan if they then spend it on a Vic Metro player whose twin brother went to a Melbourne club.

I guess live trading allows them options still.

Kinda strange that 9 days out from the draft we still don't know how the live trading mechanisms will work. I'm curious whether teams will make a tentative selection with their pick then have a period of time to field trade offers from clubs before the selection is locked in or if there will be time before each pick to field offers and then the pick is made.

I'd prefer the former if there was a choice. Means the club needs to be serious about who they would draft with that pick, similar to bids on academy players, and any clubs that are looking to trade up for a particular player have a definitive value they need to try and match in a trade offer.

Also don't know what the AFL is thinking splitting the draft over two days. Last year's first round only took half an hour. Why bother trying to stretch that out? If there is few or no trades on the night the thing could be wrapped up very early and then bringing everyone back the following day would just seem nonsensical and somewhat anticlimactic.
I'm sure they're hoping there will be lots of excitement and tension as clubs dramatically jump on the phones and huddle around screens in their war rooms trying to formulate plans and see what they can muster from other clubs to make a push for a big trade but considering there's been a month between the trade period and the draft where clubs could still make pick trades, and the trade period itself was already 10 days long, I doubt there's really gonna be too much trade action on the night.

Tell me about it.

I’ve got to now attend two Lions draft nights in consecutive nights; makes life hard.

Yeah, now you've got twice as much to report back to us all. o_O

Heart bleeds for you if you sold your Brighton property and have to travel up from Portsea, twice. ;)

And as per pulps post, as I'm in Tassie next week I expect you and the others to keep us up-to-date! :D

Didn’t The Golfing Lion declare last week his intent at being the intrepid reporter for these events.

Surprised you’re missing this one blynd_freddie they should be a cracker.

Of all three I’ve attended, the first was the best, particularly when Schache’s name was called out. Obviously didn’t pan out, but you couldn’t hide the joy when his name was called out.

This year, I have NFI, but quietly hoping one Thomas Berry is read out by the club (purely romantic reasons like Schache), which you’d think I’d learn.

Yep they've all been good and this one as Richie Benaud would say, should be Marvel-lous...

/showing myself out [why I've been banned from this one? LOL]

In that phantom draft, I got Duursma, Stack and McFadyen with the first three picks. Could have selected Berry but I thought Stack has more potential.

The draft order hadn't taken into account that we'd traded away our picks at in the 50s, but we kept going with it anyway. I used those non-existent picks on Tom Sparrow and Noah Gown. We probably don't need a tall, but I figured I already had a half back flank and 4 midfielders so I could afford a luxury pick.

Great recruiting. Sparrow would be a steal late in the draft
