I’d be seriously wanting the club to put a bid on Bailey Scott with our first. I cannot seriously work out why this kid is not being talked about higher. Even at our pick I reckon he’s a steal - I’d take him if we had pick 8. If North match, which I’d fully expect them to, so be it. If not he gets to stay in Qld. Has a great frame, good burst of speed, very neat by foot, creative by hand, can go inside or outside and is a leader. What’s not to like?

I'm not a keen draft follower but I've locked in on Duursma as the one I want with our first pick. Not too many others that have been suggested at our first pick sound as well rounded a player as Duursma is currently.

That's my thoughts as well without being an expert. Was impressed with him in the carnival. Wins a lot of ball and runs hard. Will be a solid player in a couple years. Needs to put weight on but I think he could be a decent option off half back from 2020 with midfield in the future.

Pretty good selections won't be far off the mark I'd like to see the club take a slight risk pick Ely smith with first or second pick reminds me of clayton oliver a little bit

I'd be interested in knowing whether you have actually watched McFadyen or Berry play live, and if so how often.

Certainly doesn't sound like you much first-hand knowledge about Berry, at least.

Are you suggesting that your opinion on draftees is better than the average poster, and, if so, on what basis?

Got a feeling Rayner will be a bust.

Would trust KM, and any of the keen draft watchers who go to games live over SM's opinion IMO. Anyone can watch Youtube highlights and come off as an 'expert'. Been to a few QLD games and McFadyn has been impressive in most of them. He really reminds me of the hyrbid tall midfielder, big and strong ball-winner who is also capable of taking a mark closer to goal. Looking forward to seeing how he develops with us.

There is a reason why McFadyn is rated higher than Berry, and it's not just because of Berry's injury. Posters are romanticized by the brotherhood connection between Berry and Berry Jr., but club list management also assess our list needs & profile before making decisions on draft. A small part of me does want Berry to get drafted by us, but not at the expense of another talented kid (who is rated internally much higher by the club and can improve our demographic)

Most (Including KM IIRC) rated Berry highly (higher than Fad) earlier in the season (before injuries).

Not too sure Berry gets past 35. McFadyen is an interesting one and ai think he’ll slip down the order somewhat.

I’d have no trouble taking Ely Smith with our first.

Seen an article on Luke English who I had all but forgot about. He’s certainly someone we should be looking at as an inside midfielder. Really leader type too. Would seemingly be a perfect fit.

I'm interested how did you come to this opinion as I'd speculate 99.9% of BF posters are not club scouts? Few options to choose from below.
1. Reading opinions of blokes like KM
2. Watching a 2min you-tube highlights video
3. Traveling from Canberra weakly and watching both McFadyen and Berry personally
4. Option 1 & 2
5. None of the above
6. I'm just another 99.9 try-hard per-center
7. I'm being shouted down

So what if someone has an uneducated or limited knowledge opinion.

I was thinking something similar. We’re almost guaranteed to draft McFadyen, and this should impact on our draft strategy.

My completely uneducated opinion is that McFadyen possibly turns in to a De Goey type mid forward.

How many inside mids should “we” consider drafting.

I’ve been talking Duursma up for most of the season for a couple of reasons. First he’s a genuine top 10 to 20 talent, and he complements our existing young mids, able to play as a small/medium defender or as mid who can play inside and outside.

Taking Duursma and McFadyen, puts some pressure on selecting Berry somewhat.

Agree totally, us some-time posters just want to offer our thoughts and get some feedback but invariably we are attacked. It's not necessarily a bigFooty thing it's social media in general. In the anonymity of the internet the key board warriors exist not realising the ones they attack just leave and the very enjoyment they get showing the perceived enlarged organ size of their so called expert knowledge has no one left to exploit it on.

I dont mind what berry brings, but the fact that he didn't really deal that great with a change in role for the champs puts a bit of a downer on him for me. You have to have the ability to adapt to different roles in the AFL otherwise, if you don't excel at your primary one you end up off a list very quickly. You see it in most teams that future mids tend to start off in other roles (aka up forward or down back) and if you can't play those other roles to a decent level, you can find yourself not getting a run at all and quickly stuggling for footy. There's very few places in sides for guys who only play one role. Thats not to say Berry couldn't play others on a wing or up forward, but its a bit concerning when guys can't do it at junior level.

I'd suggest that post was interpreted as fairly condescending with its wording, hence the response. To be fair I don't think it was meant the way it may have sounded.

And yes I find the whole "if you don't watch players live your opinion doesn't count" sort of theme to be fairly tiresome. Sure people who watch games live get a much better idea of players and how they really play, but the inability to do so doesn't completely invalidate an opinion. I think in the current age of televised games and footage its not inconceivable that you can form a reasonably rounded view of a player from watching footage of them, especially in the champs games. Sometimes its actually easier to watch certain positions on tape, rather than live, although for others its much harder.

I'm not sure we're all in on McFadyen. I would highly doubt we'd match with our first 3 picks TBH, maybe our third if we had already filled other needs. I think we've shown that we're more than prepared to pass on guys if they're bid on before we value them. North getting Watson would perhaps be the most glaring example.

I think McFadyen will slide. Similar to Allison while his strengths are tempting the deficiencies in his game are too large to ignore. Also has the foot injury delaying his pre-season.

I think your right i cant see pick til the 30 40 range on conner which is good for us.

It's an interesting notion... Someone still being on our board (either expected or unexpected) who we rate higher than him... If our pick is only 1 or 2 later, we could feasibly let him go to target someone else.

I'm also interested to see what this means for Keidean Coleman now... We delisted Allison take his rookie list spot. Could be the Coleman now just goes with our last pick, could be that we have the flexibility to take him or another, depending on who's available, and could just be that the club don't have him on their board. Wouldn't be the first time that expected academy nominees were completely omitted.

Berry jr can play up forward.

When he was named as playing as a small defender in the champs, those who have watched him a lot live said it was the wrong move by the coach. With some speculation that some club recruiters may have asked for him to be played there.

He’s an inside mid who can go forward apply pressure and kick goals.

We have many similar recent draftees and experienced mids filling similar roles.

Never said it was my opinion guys. Put away the torches and pitchforks for now. I get a lot my information from club land FWIW. Plus I do my own little bit of research which does include YouTube . A lot of assumptions in your responses and I don't appreciate it. Can you give me a little slack please?
