He hasn't shown the leadership i would prefer to see with our kids. His dummy spits several times this season are not a good look.

Spot on mate! Not a good leader, seen too much vision of him physically pushing team mates and verbally abusing/yelling in their faces. I think this is part of the reason why he wasn't offered another contract. Also he doesn't put his head over the ball either he is to scared of a contest. Doesn't lay tackles either. Would strongly be against us picking him up.

Don’t think goddards ‘leadership’ is the kind we’d be after

Considering our play he’d be hoarse in the first half of game 1.
Agree. It would be hard for me to see Goddard in Suns colours. I hope NOT. He's a washed up clown. McVeigh on the other hand, I would love him to join as as a coach/player.

I remember Goddard in his 2nd season playing at the MCG I was at ground level on his flank for most of the day and all l heard was him bagging his team mates. I thought to myself who does this Clown think he is.

Due to Ross Lyon Connection I think he will be pointing his finger at Fremantle .

Hopefully they will play this role,
"Stu l don't know who you've been listening to but that Lemmens kid is terrible and Rischitelli great club man but can't you see he's absolutely cooked "
Let’s just hope they aren’t holding a pie at the time or Dewy won’t be able to concentrate

So Currently we have 0 senior list spots available
-Lynch
+Macpherson

+ 5x high draft picks
-Rosa
-Hall (assumed)
-Barlow (assumed)
- 2 more senior players.
I'd Suggest that pick 2 from:
Scrim - if he wants out due to lack of opportunity, but hopefully not
Lonergan - 12 months ago was a shoe-in to be gone now, after last 12 months no longer clear cut Probably stays
Leslie - Hasn't grabbed his chance, but our lack of KPD may save him
Nicholls - Contracted, and I wouldn't want to be going into a season with Wright and Crossley as my primary backup in the event Witts went down, but like Leslie he hasn't grabbed his (significant) opportunities
Wigg - Not sure on contract. unlucky with injury. apparently decent upside?
Rischitelli - I personally think he should have been gone when he did his knee. Dew seems to like him though, and after what he's given the club maybe they'll let him go on and then go on his own terms

If we are also adding Graham and Koenan at the draft (i can't see them making it through to get as rookies), and we aren't including them in the '5 high draft picks' then 4 of the above have to go. Im thinking that there are one or more senior players that are leaving at year end, that we aren't taking into account.
Thanks , I afraid is not an easy job as List manager ,good luck to Craig Cameron .

One out of left field and a big WHAT IF. Do we look at moving someone like Day on even though he is contracted? I would think not, but I can see the club going through every player on their list and having a vigorous discussion on what they bring to the club.

I can totally see that. would have been more likely if lynch stayed though I'd have thought

I would look at Luke Strnadica from Fremantle , likely to get delisted due to Sandilands extended for another year . Will be good backup if 2mp ,Crossley , Witts injured . More a Forward /Ruck than a Ruck /forward .

No thanks

Another kid I like to throw into the mix for our later 1st / early 2nd is this kid Jordan Clark from WA - played Cricket for Australia in u16s and took a hat trick against Pakistan. Living in Albany WA so pretty much a country boy - reminds me a bit of Elliot Yeo > athletic and can really kick it and find it in the backline with potential to play mids in the future

Excuse my intrusion gents

I cant seem to see any comments about 2 players with queensland ties in any of the posts
Harry Himmelberg (gws) and his Brother Elliot Himmelberg

I would have thought these 2 boys would have been ideal trade targets for the suns
Harry already showing he is a top notch foward and Elliot a good prospect as a defender
Issue being they have already spent as much time at their current clubs as they had in Queensland. both were only there for such a short amount of time that they couldn't qualify for our academy. I doubt there would be a 'go-home' factor there.
Not just a go home factor, Its always easier to go to a familiar place specially when reuniting 2 brothers at the 1 club - Always a bonus
Now combine that with a salary that GWS cant match and Crows wont match to me thats a no brainer
The issue being that both Himmelberg brothers were part the GWS academy, and GWS matched Adelaide's bid at the 2015 draft on Harry. That Christmas, the Himmelberg family moved to QLD, and Elliot joined the Lions academy for 2016. But because he hadn't been part of the Lions academy long enough, we couldn't match Adelaide's bid on Elliot at the 2016 draft.

It's not like both boys are actually QLD'ers. They were born in Wagga Wagga and grew up in New York, before the family moved back to NSW.

ahem, hands off the Lions second round pick, cheers.

I think you guys should look at Mitch Grigg from Norwood. He is a big mature body, one of the best players in the SANFL, was a high level jr and could make a positive difference for you. Would come cheap as well.

I would think the club is looking its eye over a lot of the state competitions. We seem to be already looking at Marlion Pickett in the WAFL.

POTENTIAL suitors Gold Coast and Fremantle have ruled out recruiting Brendon Goddard, who was blindsided by Essendon’s shock decision to delist him on Monday.

Goddard had been told last Monday he was likely to play on unless the club landed two big trade targets that would take up any spare salary cap room.

But on Monday the 33-year-old was told by the club they would not offer him another contract.

It will give rise to speculation the Bombers are closing in on a trade target, having already publicly confirmed they are interested in Dylan Shiel but not Andrew Gaff or Dayne Beams.

Goddard has looked sore and out of form in recent weeks, with the Bombers desperate to play emerging half backs Aaron Francis, Mason Redman, Martin Gleeson and Jordan Ridley next year.

Former teammate and close friend Nick Dal Santo told the Herald SunGoddard would still be in the best 22 of most teams.

He said Goddard’s sheer competitive will might see him playing on, but says St Kilda cannot be a realistic option given they just forced experienced players Nick Riewoldt and Leigh Montagna into retirement 12 months ago.

Gold Coast is not interest in Goddard, believing it is developing half-backs in Callum Ah Chee and Charlie Ballard, with Pearce Hanley and Lachie Weller also playing off half-back.

Fremantle Steve Rosich told the Herald Sun the Dockers would not reunite Ross Lyon and former player Goddard.

“No, we won’t be recruiting Brendon,” he said.

The Dockers have just re-extended the contracts of 35-year-old Aaron Sandilands as well as 31-year-old Hayden Ballantyne and David Mundy so could hardly bring in a 33-year-old.

St Kilda said it did not comment about players on the market, but football boss Simon Lethlean said recently he liked the principle of recruiting veterans like Luke Hodge and Jordan Lewis.

Carlton has expressed a desire for experience and leadership but across half-back has Kade Simpson, Dale Thomas and Ciaran Byrne with Sam Docherty and Tom Williamson returning by Round 1 next year.

Goddard made clear he still felt he had “something to give”, saying “I am at peace with the decision but still weighing up my options, given it is still very raw, I am taking some time to think about the future.”

Worsfold admitted Goddard had been “jolted” by the decision, after finishing top-five in the Essendon best-and-fairest in every year after playing 128 games for the Bombers.

“Brendon felt he could play on but we have a lot of younger players who are pushing up to play so it was the right decision for the club,’’ he said.

Dal Santo said there was no reason why Goddard shouldn’t play on given his solid form.

“I think he can play on. We can all see that when it comes down to his form it’s evident he can do it again,” he said.

“I reckon the person that BJ is, he is so driven in some ways that he could see it as another challenge to overcome.

“Footballers get that mentality where if you are dropped you want to fight back and prove you can come back bigger and better.

“I don’t think St Kilda makes sense, they had Rooey and Joey and moved them on. He could help them but that goes against their plan from 12 months ago, so I don’t think it makes complete sense.”

Worsfold said Goddard disagreed with the club’s call on Monday.

“That would be fair to say, yes. He feels he can still contribute on the field at a really good level and that’s the hard part because he still has done that this year,” Worsfold said.

“It’s an unknown how well he would contribute next year, but as I talked about we’ve got so many other factors we’ve had to throw into the pot to weigh up.”

Goddard will play his final game in red and black on Friday night against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

It will be the former No.1 draft pick’s 334th game after 205 at St Kilda.

In the wake of Essendon’s supplement’s saga, Goddard captained the club in 2016 - the year 34 past and present players were suspended - and won the Crichton Medal in his first year at the club.

Goddard has averaged 22 disposals this season, his lowest return since a knee injury ended his 2007 season after just seven games.

Good news, would rather focus on Ballard, Ah Chee and Weller.
Agreed, i much more excited about seeing our kids next year then any player that we could pick up during trade period.
Bowes, Ainsworth, brodie and scrim all coming into their 3rd year (breakout year) and another season with Ballard and crossley.
Will be an interesting forward line and if no injuries it should be a 2 tall structure with day and wright.
