Not at all, to the contrary I often defend our players on other boards but you have to admit that when the media keeps saying Carlton is trying to get Jack and he might want out, you discussing him on the blues trade thread of all places looks a little bit suss

Spot on. A new coach, new footy dept hierarchy with perhaps a very different view of our current list to the old regime. As they have warned us, a big list turn over about to happen. Let the roller coaster ride continue and hope to hell we are on the rise come pre-season when the dust settles.

For my sanity, I just gloss over those posts.
I properly read and take in about 20% of posts on the Suns board. Of course, I am still here b/c those 20% of posts are worth reading. Plenty of those posts worth reading come from people who know things, and this is the Suns board so there are not that many posts to work through. Bonus! I would be off BF if I followed a board with heaps of posters. There is a lot of bloviating and drivel to work through.

Fingers crossed most of our 21 and unders work out. As a club, the Suns sure need them to be the best players they can be for the Suns and not some other club.

Suns would be nuts to trade Scrimshaw. There is absolutely no reason for it. We all will enjoy watching him play AFL next year in Suns colours. On separate note I noticed how Polson's performance was savaged by Carlton forum for most of the year. Then the last game he showed them he has it. The conclusion is it's not easy for draftees and Bigfooty is 80% crap.

Disagree. I would not trade under any circumstances young players who want to stay and are part of our core who will move the club forward. E.g., would you trade Bowes, Ainsworth, Miller, Wright if we would get right offer?

I would expect the club has pretty good idea by now or soon. Even if let's say May ask for trade I would not trade him unless we get the same quality player back which is basically impossible due to our situation. The landscape has changed players now come and go but still can be professional even if they probably leave next year. The Suns has the youngest list, we need as many mature players as possible while young players develop. Also, a lot of can change in one year. If we have a good run with injuries next year, I believe we can be competitive against most teams.

The bottom of the Suns list has been getting thoroughly churned for the past 3 offseasons with 32 new players brought in, 5 of whom were delisted last year and now another 7 players are gone. With Lynch, Rosa, Barlow and Rischitelli coming off the Senior list, that leaves 4 spots to be filled, plus 3 rookies were delisted, leaving 4 spots. With Holman and MacPherson upgraded, plus Rischa being promised to be re-rookied, we have 38/40 senior spots, and 3 of 7 rookie spots filled. There will be some interchangability to what the Rookie list looks like because Heron and Dawson are Category B but either could be Category A if Cameron decides to pick up to 3 Academy Rookies.

The past 3 trade and draft period have seen 10, 10 and 12 players brought in (we could have brought in 13 last year but left a roster spot free). With 7 off the board and Rischa effectively taking the unused spot, we will look to fill 4 Rookie spots and need to create more than 2 Senior list spots. The best way to move from here is to trade players out and upgrade picks. St Kilda could look to trade out of #4 since they have no picks until #75. Fremantle may need to trade out of #5 because they don't pick again until #77. The Dogs will likely try to trade players for picks once they finish signing guys, so we either sign one of their players or go after their top 10 pick. North and Geelong's 1st round picks would be available for a combination of Suns 2nd and 3rd picks, which the Suns will likely have even more of after trading some players.

Who will the Suns trade? Jesse Lonergan, Kade Kolodjashnij and Aaron Hall are all Tasmanians, which points to Hawthorn and North being favourable destinations. Jack Leslie could almost get his original Draft value back from a team in immediate need of an experienced key defender. There is a shortage of ruckmen in the comp, so do the Suns, who have Witts, Wright, Day and Crossley, trade Nicholls? That's 5, which would create 7 Senior list spots to fill through the trade and draft plus 4 rookie spots. Is that enough? Too much?

THE AFL draft is nearly upon us and there are a host of young Gold Coast footy players hoping to achieve their dream of joining an AFL club’s list.

The Suns increasingly have more talent coming through its academy and while not all will join Gold Coast, some may find themselves picked up by rival clubs.

We rank the top five draft prospects coming out of the Gold Coast ahead of next month’s two-day event, to be held on November 22 and 23 at Etihad Stadium. The rookie draft will also be held on November 23.

1. Bailey Scott:

Age: 18

Height: 186cm

Weight: 64kg

Position: Midfield

Club: Broadbeach

This gut-running midfielder leads the pack of potential Gold Coast draft picks. The Allies under-18 representative has a huge decision to make before the draft. He is son of former Cat and Kangaroos player Robert Scott, who played 132 games for Geelong and 111 for North Melbourne.

It means Scott, who will attend the national combine, can opt to align with either Victorian club through the father-son rule or the Suns via his academy links. All three want the skilled on-baller who can play at half-forward and finish well in front of goal.

2. Dirk Koenen:

Age: 18

Height: 194cm

Weight: 87kg

Position: Key position

The second Suns academy player set to attend the national combine. Strong and tall for his age, Koenen is already developed physically and has proven to be adept at intercept marking while his skills are also impressive. Originally from the Magnetic Islands, Koenen started with the Suns through its Townsville academy before shifting south to play football and finish school at Palm Beach Currumbin State High. Koenen, who represent the Allies under-18 representative team this year, played five NEAFL games for the Suns in 2018, averaging 3.4 marks and 3.8 tackles.

3. Caleb Graham:

Age: 17

Height: 194cm

Weight: 84kg

Position: Tall defender/key position.

Likened to Brisbane Lions forward Eric Hipwood, Graham doesn’t hesitate to launch himself at the footy while he runs hard and competes harder.

SUNS 2018 REPORT CARD

Graham, another Allies under-18 representative, can play at either end of the ground but it’s his versatility that probably left him a little unsettled in 2018 where he has been thrown in numerous different positions. He is quick, has good closing speed and his contested marking is among his best quality.

4. Brodie Foster:

Age: 19

Height: 178cm

Weight: 78kg

Position: Small midfielder/defender

Club: Surfers Paradise

Foster has had an outstanding year for the Gold Coast Suns NEAFL team, playing in all of their 18 games throughout the season while averaging 22 disposals, 4 marks, 3 inside 50m entries, 4 tackles and 3 clearances. Foster was nominated for the NEAFL rising star award in Round 13 after impressing against Redland.

The Surfers Paradise junior has been part of Gold Coast’s academy for five years and is a gifted ball user with a reputation for his hand skills and accurate kicking.

5. Emmanuel Baru:

Age: 19

Height: 188cm

Weight: 81kg

Position: Forward

Club: Labrador

A small forward with enormous x-factor and elite speed. The Allies under-18 player benefited from spending time training with the Gold Coast Suns senior team this season, taking the lessons he learnt onto the field for the club’s NEAFL side where he kicked 16 goals in 14 games, including seven in two weeks.

Ball use is beyond atrocious, and not an overly strong contested ball winner for someone that size. If you put jack martins skill and finesse in bells body you would have a Brownlow winner
