Some pick out of this look alright
Lukosius,Rozee ,Hately, luke valente, McLennan, Rankine, Boyd Woodcock.

Theres an article abput Scrimshaw to Hawks.
Along with Scully and Wingard.

Hawks only have picks 13 35 and 53
So got me buggered.
Hawthorn future 2nd for GC Richmond 3rd . Don't think next year GC need lots of pick .

I dont think you can teally look at the past and use it as a gauge to what will happen now and into the future..

Just out of interest how many SA kids drafted in the past 5-6 years have been so incredibly highly rated as Rankine, Rozee and Luko..

Sweet FA.. but then.. South Australia hasnt seen young talent like this in decades.

So whilst there has been some pretty good youngsters in the last decade come from the state.. they havent been anywhere near as special as this group and they probably havent been chased by the two Adelaide teams like these lads are now, and will be into the future if they end up at interstate clubs.

Youve also got to factor in that player movement isnt what it used to be.. players no longer care for free agency rules, contracts or loyalty like they have done in the past.. player movement is increasing.
Are you really chasing though? This year? The crows have intrigued me this trade period.

Fact of the matter is that the one qld player we should have picked is Bailey Scott who nominated north, so whoever we pick will be from out of state. Personally I'm not opposed to the king twins, but I think I stand alone on that front. But if it's them or the S.A. boys, there's no definitive right or wrong. We have a strong hand either way.

Out of interest, a possible GC team in 2023 in terms of a 5 year plan with the king twins.

Joyce King ??
Ah Chee ?? Ballard

Like you said Lloyd was one of Scrimshaw coaches at Hailbury and he's been smashing Scrim all week on trade radio saying how unprofessional he's been on the Gold Coast and how he was never going to fit in up here.
The way Lloyd was talking it sounds like he was always going to struggle with the demands of being a professional athlete and that he pretty much needs a 24/7 babysitting

Haha great flip of what was actually said mate!

For an accurate account of what Lloyd is saying listen from the 17min 40s mark of this...

1st Lloyd last spoke to Scrim in 2016 so how would he know what happened in GC?

2nd he said SUNS was not the best fit for him because he needs the support of senior players to mentor him.

3rd He has said he needs to work harder, see point 1 and note that Lloyd was not aware when he knew Scrim that he was recovering from hip surgery and a stress fracture and was told by Vic Metro doctors to go easy at school to be right for Nationals, where he starred V Sth Aust, the game that secured them the title.

Lloyds criticism was more against the Suns inability to provide the right level of support for a homesick kid who faced and overcame a very difficult time.

Scrim was running 13-15K games and averaging 30+ posessions in NEAFL by seasons end after losing a close Aunt, being KO’d and seperately a fractured cheek!

An article on the Herald Sun website today explained correctly that Suns need salary cap relief so whilst it sounds like a good story to put the Suns in a good light, sorry to disappoint you but he is a real pro, works hard and a great kid.

Suns need more resources if they are going to keep players at the club. It seems like good plans are in place to do this and hope they come sooner rather than later.

Interesting on the King brothers for sure. If May goes would that increase the appeal of Ben King and therefore Max King as well? 2019 draft is supposed to be mids up the top end.

Not flipping anything mate If you had keep reading this is what I said in reply to Bods question I'm happy to go and find the audio for you.

I don't want to misquote Lloyd but he just said Scrim needed to go to a club with a strong culture.
He wasn't bashing the Suns he just knew Scrim was always going to struggle with the demands of being a professional athlete just like Boston.
Lloyd said Scrim needs strong leaders around him 24/7 if he was going to make it at the top level

We all know you are close to scrim and it might be hard for you to hear someone in the media talk bad about someone you know personally put its very clear Scrim is struggling to adapt to being a professional athlete. it's got nothing to do with the Suns it's something he has to work on himself he can't blame others because he's lazy or not professional enough.

And on Your 1st claim I've seen Scrim talking to Matthew Lloyd at Suns open training in 2017 and 18 so you are wrong there.

And on your 3rd claim Lloyds was not criticising the Suns inability to provide the right level of support for a homesick kid.
He has said on multiple occasions not just when scrims family members call into trade radio and ask a question that Scrim was always going to struggle wherever he went.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
And that ok it's what makes these forums great fun.
One thing we should be able to agree on if Scrim does find his way to the Hawks we should know within 12 months if Clarkson rates him because he hates lazy and unprofessional players and will throw him to the curb quick smart.

You guys have just gotta take the two best players available at picks 2 and 3 and thats Rankine and Luko...

If you dont... then youve basically devalued those picks... youve used picks 2 and 3 to get players that werent valued at 2 and 3. might as well trade them if your gonna do that.

As far as flight risks are concerned.. well youve gotta just take the chance.

I moved to the goldy in 2002. Had a whole group of mates and we were all living up here, probably around 30 of us in the Southern end of the GC. Although we were drawn here for the waves and lifestyle not drafted in to play footy.
I could count on one hand how many of those 30 still live here and I myself wouldve gone home to adelaide by now if i hadnt have met my wife and had kids.. she doesnt want to move to adelaide because her family live here.

Most of those 30 lasted 3-4 years.. some a bit longer.. some less.. the goldy is great but the glitter wears off pretty quick for most i think. Although f*** me those first few years, some unbeleivable parties and fun times.. benders that went for days!

The place just doesnt have any real feeling of homeliness and soul about it in my opinion. Adelaide is still my home.. always was and always will be.. and most expat south aussies I know and talk to say similar things about it.

The flight risk and draw to return home will always be there for these lads but the Suns have to ignore it because it will be the same for any player you pick that isnt from SE QLD..

Your concerns are appreciated.
When anyone comes to the Gold Coast for the wrong reasons, birds, parting “That Scene” will chew you up and spit you out, hard and fast. Just look at the quality of woman from say Surfers and Broadbeach to say Nobby Beach and South. Most are all interstate or country vic glamours who love the lifestyle here.

I’m from the South also, moved up as soon as I could after school, friends soon followed, the ones who didn’t take life seriously, partied hard, as mentioned above, flaked after a few years went home to be supported by their Mums and Dads. Pathetic really..
The ones that did, are successful and with quality partners loving life.

The lifestyle is second to none in the world, if your an outdoors personality which most footy players are and can afford it, your living beachside, again, most of our boys all are living beachside from Nobby Beach south and the ones that have purchased homes are living beachside or Varsity etc.
Look at Lyons, stoked to be here, just about to buy beachside.

Just remember, the go home factor was never the biggest issue it seems until this draft and its ramped up by southerns. Stick to the game plan and hold fast.

Other Adelaide folks I know can’t speak highly enough of this place.
Adelaide is cold and miserable and not much going on. Trade the best talent, look after them and If they’re quality align with the above they won’t be going anywhere. Just speak with some our SA boys who are thriving on what the Coast offers.

All you Topsy Turvey Suns supporters need to stop listening to all these seagulls who jump on the forum with their 2 cents because it’s turning you all into jelly fish and scaring you.
Find your backbones and believe in your club and their Managements choices. Jeliousy is a curse, don’t buy into it Suns this is very exciting times for us ahead!! Yewwww!

I holiday on the coast every year because I love the place. But I'd hardly call Adelaide cold and miserable with nothing going, i love my home of Adelaide so maybe im a touch bias but.
If anything our summers are too hot. But our city has a new lease on life . There's always something going on. Come in March in particular if you want to see a city come alive.
I love the gold coast and I'm sure it's a great place to live but I've regularly seen posters here compare it to Adelaide as a means of putting Adelaide down when really it's a great place to be.

Caldwell injuries are a concern.
I’d still take Smith before Rankine too.

A 17 yr old with bad hamstrings dont concern me too much.
He isnt exactly dealing with the best doctors and high performance team while at school

The fact he rated so high though means we might miss out on him unless he slides to 19

No doubt if Suns were winning Lynch and May would be on long-term contracts by now. They both looked mentally spent from constant losing.
Yeah no doubt. There’s no getting away from the fact it’s a rebuild and that’s why anyone we draft will be onboard for 3-4 years and stay around for success. The 2010/11 batch were all committed for 4-5 years until injuries and poor drafting ruined it. A lot got ‘homesick’ from that moment on.
Some players just can’t endure another rebuild like Lynch & possibly May.

Exactly. And all these journo idiots in Victoria talk about is our toxic culture.

Looking forward what Melbourne media will be saying about GWS in coming years. They went for it the last 3 years and now it's time for a serious re-adjustment. It's unbelievable players exodus. I doubt, they will make finals. And next year Kelly, Coniglio, Hopper,... all could be gone, plus more retirements coming. I't funny but I almost feel like we are ahead of them rebuilding :)

I'm thinking we are going to have 5 picks in the top 19 this year plus a future 1st rd pick

Aside from Lukosius what type of players can you see us targeting?
The rest inside mids? I seriously doubt we’ll look at the Kings.

Not including the 3rd state league player we only have 4 list spots available
There will be more after list Lodgement . A lot of club try to get something from their potential delisted player instead of getting nothing from other club like Deboer .

If I'm crows I'm talking right now about not selling the farm to get a high pick, but when it comes down to it they are going to pay the premium that it takes to get Luko or Rankine.

They probably need to start dealing with the Dogs and Saints to move their pick 8 up the order.

At the end of the day the Suns may only be prepared to move pick 3 down 1 or 2 spots to get Rozee and Crows pick 13. As part of the deal we may end up giving our picks in the 20s for their future 1st, as I would think they would need to use their other picks to get high enough up the order.

If the May deal happens and we get 5 then I can see a world where we have 2, 4, 5, 13, 18

Go Luko, Rozee, Smith, Caldwell, O'Halloran
