Watching the quality of tonight's two sides.

Knowing they haven't had to go through a seven year rebuild to get there.

Hawthorn's "rebuild" was, what, all of 10 weeks?

So depressing.

They still have the bulk of their premiership team. Like us in 2011-2012.

Sydney get leg ups all the time. First COLA now bullshit 'academies'

They still develop young talent very quickly, and often from lower levels of the draft. Both of them.

So depressing.
Yes they actually look like they from a different league to us right now. The skills, conditioning, poise, recruiting, game plan… a massive gulf from where we at.

I feel like the last couple of years the quality of footy across the board has been down which has allowed some pretty average sides to win a premiership, but this year I feel like the good sides are back to some devastating footy. This is part of the reason why we look so bad right now, we've dropped away a little, lost a couple of gun veterans, but most sides have genuinely improved. Have to admire Hawthorn as much as I hate them, it just feels like we are so far back in terms of development and conditioning.

Heeney looks like he struggling for confidence like Billings, but you'd hardly notice because he is surrounded by blokes who are hitting targets and he's not being expected to be the match winner every week at 22 years of age.
Faaaaaaaaakin mufadyubfghhdfghh... T H I S !

One of our biggest problems. This year we just said "Right kids, sink or swim" and dumped a bunch of 4 year old kids in the sea as the good ships Riewoldt and Montagna disappeared over the waves.

Why can't our experienced players kick like Sydney kids?

3rd game players kicked 6 goals, 19 years old kicked 2 goals from a very difficult angle.

Our experienced players are missing goals from 30 meters right in front.
Isn’t their goal kicking coach some bloke who kicked 1300 plus goals , 898 with us . Ben Dixon is well credentialed but hey star

I hate both of them. Why us? They should let us pelt Pelchen with rocks.

Yet another low scoring game. I watched the discussion on AFL 360 which said the modern tactic of so many players around the ball is responsible. Do you guys think it's an issue which will turn fans away, or are low scoring games a sign of clever tactical play? Should measures be considered which would stretch the play?

Congestion of players is partly to blame given the nature of congestion is rushed disposal which leads to riskier shots at goal, however by and large the key issue is that skill work at present is in a bit of a dip even without congestion. Like many things, what generally turns people away is value for money, and if the base is seen as weaker than previous incarnations, there would be some expected drop off.

Is seasonal though, next year will be different to this year just as last year was different.

Don't hold back there Joffaboy......lol.

I remember Freo when the snagged RTB.....we could only look on from our smouldering train wreck.

You misspelled juggernaut.

I think i heard the Swans had 10 players last night that started off on the rookie list!
FFS that's impressive recruiting and development

Tim somebody, that ruckman we had on our list around 1999 who we were all hoping would be good was the worst I've seen. Around that era, most of our players ranged from spuds to mostly average players with the rare good game.

Tim Elliot? ??

They probably thought the likes of dunstan, armitage etc would take the reigns. Obviously not.
