“The mid-season rookie draft will only be available to clubs that have a spare rookie position available.”

Does that mean we draft one less rookie to start with or does a new position entirely open up?

The list rule sizes are

Main 38 + Rookie A 6 + Rookie B 3
or
40 + 4 + 3

The club generally has been under so I could see list of 38 + 4 + 3 with Sproule and Stein moving to Rookie A and 2 new Rookie Bs from the Academy

A slight update
Unsigned: Lachie Keeffe, Dawson Simpson, Lachie Tiziani, Dylan Buckley, Sam Reid
Simpson has agreed to a one-year deal and all that awaits now is whether he will have fellow ruckman and previously retired Shane Mumford alongside him on the playing list. Buckley is also set for a second season at the Giants, while Reid played a career-high 21 games in 2018, so should be back next year. Spare-parts big man Keeffe and Tiziani, who is recovering from an ACL rupture in April, are yet to re-sign.

From what I saw briefly of Tiziani he looked a nice player. He was trending the right way until injury struck.

Perhaps he is down the pecking order but imho he certainly deserves another opportunity, if not with us at least somewhere.

39 & 5 is also valid, but most clubs commit to a lower cap (38) or more prospects (40).

Clarke

Clarke isn't in the same galaxy, let alone league..
If he is REALLY cheap I could stand it, but most likely would be just another reason for me to hate this post season

Clarke will play one game, show some promise and do an injury. His body can't handle AFL level training let alone a game. Mumford brings the ability to hurt opposition players even if he isn't having the best day he makes sure the other players feel his presence. Which helps drain the other teams energy.

Ur talk unlike he is still doing this. It’s not 2016, it will be 2019 and there are some serious question marks on his ability to go round again imo

There are question marks yes, but you would think the club would have them answered before taking him. Sometimes having a year off as an athlete is the best medicine to recovering from injuries, it can also be mentally refreshing to have a break and realize how much you did enjoy it. Hopefully in the time off he has flooded his body with stem cells and is feeling brand new.

You’re an optimist

I like that

Personally I think the club is backed into a corner and he is the best of a bad bunch of options

I still maintain on draft night we need to look at players who can have an impact and better our team in 2019. Good players after 3 years in the system won’t help us in the short term and with so many contracts coming up, the need for continued success is real. I still think Rankine is our best bet.... would be best 22 and would immediately improve our forward line. No chance he makes it past he top 5 so I don’t think we would need to trade up aggressively. I like the look of hill as well.

I think our later picks need to go to the inside midfielder who might need a year or two

Rankine and Jarrod Cameron look like 2 players with X-factor and would be similar draftings to when WCE took Rioli and Liam Ryan in the one year. I think both Rankine and Cameron are ready-made and would complement Langdon, De Boer and Greene very well. Suddenly a forward line of Langdon, Cameron and Rankine crumbing the feets of Jezza and Himmelberg is looking much more lively and creative. We would still have Daniels ready to go after an extra pre-season as well.

That being said, doubt we get Rankine with the Adelaide teams having the high picks and Cameron being tied to the WCE academy. Wouldnt mind us having a crack at Cameron with pick 19 if Hill is already off the table. Would think WCE would match with 20 though with LeCras retiring.

Agree with all of this

That fast half forward type that can eventually run off a wing is the position we are trying to manufacture after trading out players like WHE who do this well. I would love us to have less picks but higher up the order- would like us to trade aggressively to get into the top tier

I’m not normally one to post rumours on this board but have heard something distressing. It’s mate of a mate stuff so grain of salt

A bloke I work with has a relative that works with the swan districts Vswans program and is a close friend of the coniglio family. West coast set to offer a monster contract to coniglio and apparently are comfortable with the offer as he is open to a move back home.

Of course.

We need those academies to start pumping them out now!

Hopefully its just a rumour and the cap space we have cleared actually goes towards keeping cogs and kelly. Would be pretty shattering losing them after this offseason.

But sheesh, if they add cogs and tim kelly to their midfield at the end of 2019, they look quite formiddable with shuey, gaff, yeo and redden.

Not sure they would have the cap for both I would’ve thought. Unless they move out a serious amount of depth or they underpay NN and JK. NN is on 800K.

Would have thought kennedy and NN will both get lower pays given kennedy apparently has a chronically degenrative injury and NN has the increased injury risk and limited recent games. Also, with a quality group of mids they might look to move on players like Hutchings or Sheed to make cap space. Nevertheless hope we keep Cogs and lock him in early. Same with Kelly, haynes, hopper and himmelberg. Lots of work for the list management team to do.

If they move on Sheed I hope we make an offer.

If ever a player butchered the ball it is him

Personally it’s a no. We just traded away someone who did that a lot.... no need to replace it
Dont see it. Inside mids will always have some clangers. They get posession under extreme pressure at lot. I haven't watched him a lot, but what I see looks good.
