You are naive if you think that's why we lost the prelim.
We were smashed in the second half, impotent, and collectively, noone stood up. We were soundly beaten, eventually, by easily the best team of the past 3 years.

Ablett had a chance to kick a goal at the 18/19 minute mark of the last quarter and missed, if he had kicked it we would have been in front. We weren’t the best team on the day, but with a couple of those missing players available, I think we had a chance....but then, maybe I am naive??

Unless we select a ready made disgruntled ruckman, and there are oodles of those available!!, nothing will change, and so it should be that way. We will have to learn to make best use of the players we have available. It does not fluster me at all. We can win enough games to get to finals and that is our problem. Until we "succeed" in finishing bottom 2 or 3, we will never get the choice picks.
My only question is, were we ever a chance to have selected Marshall?

Rowan Marshall I'm assuming - would it hurt if I said yes?

He was drafted aged 21, taken at pick 10 in the 2016 rookie draft - I'm guessing he may have nominated for the draft in previous years to 2016 also (can't confirm that)

We didn't have a rookie draft pick before St Kilda in the 2016 draft, but we did have the following ND selections:

#26 - Brandan Parfitt
#40 - Tom Stewart
#43 - Esava Ratugolea
#60 - Quinton Narkle

Think that most were/are happy with the above selections

#68 - Tim House
#69 - Ryan Abbott

Maybe we could have made better use of these two picks and we took a chance on the wrong ruck option

I still say we are a ruckman away from a flag,we need to move heaven and earth to fix it or be content with just being the best home and away side,it's been 8 years since Ottens, questions should be asked.

But don't we still have 1 position still left on our list and we could pick up a player as a SSP?? eg like Richmond did wth Sydney Stack and Carlton eg Michael Gibbons?

yeah he nominated, missed out and went to north Ballarat.
He was one of my wants in 2016

With Duncan and Rohan signing and the drafts done this is our OOC list for 2020.
Ablett (retiring)
HT
Menegola (FA)
Tuohy
Parfitt
Narkle
Cockatoo
Henry
Stanley
Fort
Zuthrie
Simpson
Jarvis
Kennerley
Tarca
Kreuger
Parsons
Atkins (R)
Hendo (R)
Brownless (R)
Close (R)
Schlensog (R)
Okunbor (R)

I imagine Taylor retires and Tuohy stays. Menegola and Parfitt are the priorities of that lot. I would imagine those three plus Henry Narkle and Kreuger are auto retains. Atkins should stay too.

Jarvis Kennerley Tarca OB Parsons Fort Simpson Zuthrie probably need good years or most of them are gone.
Cockatoo needs to stay fit and in the seniors or gone.
Hendo might get another year as backup or retire.
I am no Stanley fan but he probably gets one year unless we trade in good rucks.

Hawkins also out of contract next season - from a recent article on Duncan's re-signing

*His (Duncan) signing knocks another senior player off of Geelong’s extensive list of players who will be out of contract next year, headed by Tom Hawkins.

The Geelong addy ran an article last month with our 2020 out of contract players

Interest article by Cal on the goings on of night 1.

Carl rang us before GCS and offered us basically Flanders + 43 for 16 and 19.

Adel offered us 22 and 23 for 14 + 36.

Carl May have called our bluff as they wouldn’t have taken Kemp over Stephens. Sounds like we wanted Georgiades before De Koning.
