The AFL changing the damn rules every 4 seconds makes SC challenging for the next year without the fantasy aspect changing. Once the third man rule was turfed it changed who was scoring the most in the rucks for example.

I do think all the media articles surrounding the game makes it easier for the casual player, but as someone who doesn't just play in super serious cash leagues it makes it more entertaining. A few years ago all my research would put me up the top while I'm spanking the casual players in the league with no real challenge. These days there is at least a challenge and some losses against other teams... but I am still luckily on top. It still takes the knowledge and info we get from BF to make educated guesses at whats the right decision.

I think if a bunch of rule changes come in next year, SC2018 will be a bit of a lucky dip, as no one will really know for sure which individual players it will benefit most as we don't get the full picture during JLT due to players not all having the same pre-season programs.

I can see a lot of casual players who don't get off to a flier burning 6 "correctional trades" after 2 rounds chasing points even though their teams are perfectly fine & losing interest even earlier than usual.

What about the ones that lose interest coz they cop several injuries and suspensions the same week like has happened to me several times early in the season too. Then have to chase tail for the rest of the year.

Luck is a part of the game but if people wanna burn through their trades let them. The only reason I was able to get a decent ranking by the end of the year this year was agressive trading. Ive said it heaps of time on here before so Im not gonna go about it any more after this but you shouldnt be punished for bad luck which is exactly what happens when you cop it and only have 2 trades to fix it that week.

Last year I was ranked around 2k after Rd16 with 4 trades left. (Same as this year) Had good cover and everything only to be decimated by injuries. Finished 24k. We all have years where the SC gods are not on our side. That's just the way it goes some times.

Discounts for games missed only count if the games are missed because of injury, that's why Witherden and those blokes don't get discounts, they just didn't play till later in the year, he was still playing NEAFL.
And explains why Gaz didn't get it this season either, wasn't injured for every game he missed, he was just arseholing the GC half of the time.
Negatory, the reason for games missed doesnt matter. They make exceptions for players like GAJ if they think everyone will pick em.

Mitchell, Cripps, JKelly, Oliver, Fyfe + the same rookies as everyone else.

And you?

I see what you mean. I’d definitely have at least 3 of those guys but it just depends on my structures as well as using that extra money in the forward line if hypothetically we all had Danger, Bont, Dusty + maybe a Heeney or De Goey in the FWDs.

It might mean more teams go for 1 or 2 more midfielders they’re hoping to breakout as they’re cheaper and they can’t afford all the midfield Premos along with the forward Premos plus possible ruck Premos Gawndy.

I’ve already been building a list of cheaper guys I’d be looking at breaking out (breaking out in SC at least and becoming a premo) like a McCluggage, Powell-Pepper, M. Kennedy, Acres, Hopper, Petrevski-Seton, Parfitt, and will continue to build it :thumbsu:

He'll get a discount but not the full 30%. CD have been manipulating the discount for years to influence the popularity of players. GAJ this year and Jaeger last year are two recent examples.

Fyfe also didn't get a discount last year

Why do you think they never back it up? Only have to look at Gawn last year... Us SCers have such short memories :S

Gawn missed half of last year through injury. Apart from 1 game, never really hit his straps. Bit like Kreuzer this year. Huge workloads for most rucks, they need to be 100% right & have a solid pre-season to get through the year.

I wouldn't mind seeing an injury rule change for premos next year. If a premo player and only a premo player ($500k+? min) is injured and scores < 30, they're marked with a different coloured icon and if a bench emergency scores more than the injured premo, they're subbed on in their place. This would save on stupid unavoidable bullshit like JPK getting injured or Gray getting KOed from ruining your score for the round.

100%. I reckon they might look at some different rules for next year to try and make it more interesting too. IIRC when I started playing in 2010 there were about 300k teams. Didn't crack 200k this year. Interest is on the wane. They need to do something. More trades is NOT the answer, but I don't know what is.

It amazes me that interest is 'on the wane' as you mentioned. Everyone I know who plays and has played for a long period of time is more passionate about it now than ever.

Dunno if this’d work:

- vc (x1.5) & capt (x2)
- both locked in after 1st game begins.
- emergencies cover for late outs

Eliminates luck on vc/c loopholes and actually makes you ‘coach’ through skill and strategy. I think it would make things more interesting.
