I see some upside in Whitfield too. Hasn’t peaked yet. Might get a bit more attention, so will have a couple of 70’s, but huge ceiling. See him about 102-105. It’s really hard to split Lloyd, Laird, Whitfield. All great picks that should be 100-105
 
Anybody else struggling with forward line? Outside of Danger and Heeney, I think there's a decent amount of risk for others. Is running just two premium forwards and the rest rookies silly?

id say thats silly and unlikely you'd have the option, or if you did would be running small forwards how score 50 on a good day.

personally from who you haven't named I like Dunkley and Kelly (everyone has risk but I think these 2 could be great forwards for us) and am seriously hoping for some positive news on Toby Greene increasing his training load (running out of time though).

I can see myself with Danger plus those 3. If Greene doesn't get enough training in then will be interesting if I have to go him up or if theres enough rookie options to run 3 deep on field up there

Also Rozee will appreciate a lot more so you may lose a few points but gain a heap more cash.

I agree it does sound a bit silly and I doubt I do it. Juggling rookies who may or may play not enough games in a row to prevent trading isn't too appealing.

I really like Wingard so far, I think he'll be my guy. Priced at 84, I think he already averages that.

Just on Dunkley, I love the kid and think he has real potential. I wrote on this forum a few days ago about the pure abundance of midfielders at the Bulldogs and I think Dunkley could call victim to that. His finish to the season was amazing but apart from that, he has very little runs on the board for somebody priced at 102.

Westhoff, good ruck insurance if you have a midpricer there, although not much upside if any
Wingard, might see more Mid time now
De Goey,
Jack Higgins, flagged for more midtime
Setterfield, should score more than the average rook.

I'm looking at a '3 premo, 1 midpricer, Setters and a rookie.

Heeney is a 'wait n see' for me, he played back in quite a few games late last year.

He definitely has risk but to say he has little runs on the board is harsh. He is young so obviously not a big record of high scores but he has always shown ability to score well right from his debut year.

Role will dictate if he is a fail or a massive win. For me the potential payoff and the likelihood of it wins out. Having those guys that are already high priced but improve 5-10 points on that starting average is massive. Even more valuable than a midpricer who improves by 20-25 as those often still need to be traded out and only make similar $$ to a rookie whereas if Dunkley can go 108+ then he is a must have who costs an arm and a leg to get.

Can definitely see why you'd be worried and pass on him though.

Wingard interests me but not sure I can do it, is an AFL fantasy option though given the number of trades available. Hard to know what structure ill run with until AFL fantasy opens (haven't played around with drawing board as prices are always off on a few which can change things drastically, although that'd be less an issue now as most team prices are revealed)

Neale - MOST LIKELY
Rozee - NO

Milera - NO
Heeney - MAYBE, MAYBE NOT
Crouch - NO

Option 1 has a roughly 50% chance of contributing to your "final side", whereas Option 2 has a 10% chance. You need to burn one trade to improve option 1 whereas you need to burn three trades for Option 2. While we have a lot of trades, it's still an opportunity cost that you can be using elsewhere.

1 pretty easily for me. Have to also factor in the money to be made from Rozee. Although you'd probably still want to fit Crouch in somehow
 
Managed to make a team with Gawn at R2 that I am happy with. See if this lasts until round 1 :/ Obviously he'll go out of my team if Preuss plays but does anyone think he actually will? They lost Pedersen and their ruck depth is minimal, so hopefully they just got him there as insurance. Gawn only just turned 27 so I believe he still has growth in his scoring

Can't see why Preuss would have traded himself to Melbourne if they didn't guarantee him playing time.

I won't be touching Gawny this year unfortunately.

Yeh but to upgrade a rookie to a premium will cost 2 trades whereas upgrading a midpricer/just under premium will only take 1 trade

Yeh its hard to say they lost alot of ruck depth in the off season so he could really just be insurance.

However i think he might come in to play the minor chop out ruck role meaning Weideman and Mcdonald who did it for small amounts are required as they take over the pure key forward spot left by Hogan.

If Preuss isnt picked for round 1 its going to be quite hard to ignore Gawn in the starting squad so being prepared for that will be important especially with a Thursday game and players locked away.

I know that he was pretty annoyed with the way North treated him at times, so that could have played a part. I don't think anyone is really guaranteed a game. To me, neither of them are good enough up forward to make it worthwhile to play both but time will tell.
 
Need to go back through the thread as the season approaches but planning to do same as last season and build up, starting with my locks, then working in people over the course of the JLT.

Current locks are 2 in each line currently.

D: Witherden (D2), ZWilliams (D4)
M: Zerrett (M1), BCrouch (M5)
R: Grundy (R1), Xerri (R4)
F: Dangerfield (F1), Setterfield (F4/5)

Aim is to keep a very open mind!

Yeah I think we will see a few teams go back to two ruck men playing again. I think the Dees, Dons, Eagles, PA, Freo, Coll, GWS all could go that way. Then its up to the others to follow.

Good way to start. Do you have a Guns and Rookie guide your going buy. Mine was roughly this:
Defenders: 2 Premiums, 1/2 Mid-priced, 2 rookies
Midfielders: 3/4 Prem, 1/2 Mid, 3 rookies
Rucks: Grundy, who ever you think (the biggest headache amongst teams this pre-season is what to do with R2)
Forwards: 2/3 Prem, 1 Mid, 3 rookies
Bench: Fill with 170K rookies.

This was the general guide I went with when selecting my team.
