2020 Draft and Trades Thread

Atkins would be neither here nor there. Improvement over Murdoch, GHS, C.Ellis, is a cream type of player. Getting him on a longer deal with low wages isn't the worst thing. Wouldn't be costing much to keep him there and he may reach his 2017 heights, if not he isn't taking up too much cap and is experienced depth.

Broad is much more exciting and exactly what we need in a defender who can play tall.

My interest is what do we do with our first round pick which will be anywhere between 5-9, do we look to trade it, or bring in another talented youth player?

Id look to trade it if we have anyone of note interested in coming here, if we don't find a deal take it to the draft and take the slider out of DGB, Thilthorpe, Logan McDonald. DGB most likely to be there around pick 6-8

So i was watching Rowell highlights again, and Powell and Rowell were combining alot in the few clips that played. I really want a gun Rebounder

My workmate played Colts with Logan McDonald and said he is a certified gun will go top 5, 193cm who is 18 leading the goalkicking in the WAFL as an 18 year old!!! plus he can play midfield..... Bont operator (Hello) Might not be our exact needs but you can't pass on that talent if we do end up having pick 5-6. Would know Sharpy too

McDonald is going to be a dominant forward, i doubt he slips but if he does gee we can't let him pass. DBG would be awesome, our backline would be an intercepting nightmare for oppositions. Thilthorpe would be a future player, he is a more athletic 2MP, bit more aggressive too

Not really following too much future prospects. Here is Cal's top 25. Davies #13 an Jeffrey #20.

I noticed a lot of people like DGB but he is an absolute stick at 195cm and 78kg and will take several years to develop. Considering we need KPD, he seems the 2-3rd tall defender. We already got Ballard, even Crab as interceptor or Collins. Jeffrey at 192cm is most probably joining us and is another potential 3rd tall intercepting defender.

Personally, I would look to trade for a mature, ready-made KPD. E.g., target some Freo defenders.

Regarding draft, I was intrigued by Reid's video, #10, 202cm 82kg, very agile, great kick, tackles well, a true KPD down the track.

Both keep getting dropped from sh*t sides, yet people still fall into the trap they are good players.
Adelaide didn't drop him. They actually thanked him for his honesty by telling them he's leaving early on and Nicks decided to play kids. He's been released from their Covid bubble and has left the club.

Essendon have as good a record as Carlton at trading fairly
Anything less then a top 35 pick is a no
In normal year yes. But with list sizes to be cut dramatically including the suns it waters down the value of draft picks either way its going to be tough to get onto an AFL list next year.

Whilst i would be ok with Broad leaving in a trade for Brodie , Not sure how i feel about him going just for a draft pick
I think i would rather keep Broad than some pick at #30 or what ever it is in a compromised draft .

What sort of pick you guys think might be given up for him ?
(keeping in mind neither you guys or I have any influence in the trade and just asking honest opinion of value)

Honestly Brisbane's 2nd would be what I'd trade for him. He is a good player, but worth more to Richmond i think his own trade value

Pickering was saying on the radio that there will be probably no list reduction this off-season. It seems too late to negotiate and execute. Some teams have already 35+ players under contract (Suns, Lions,...).

He's not even playing 1s at the moment. Surely can't be too high.

Having previously said l'm not keen on Atkins looking at our list he's a massive upgrade on GHS and Schoenfeld.
My Mum's a massive upgrade on GHS and Schoenfeld
Actually I reckon there's a serious chance of Mum beating GHS in a 20m dash
I watched him try and get off the ground during the pre-season
It was as if time stood still
Fruit withered on the vine
Chickens hatched
Mt Warning came to life again and a new phylogeny manifested from the ashes by the time he made it from the forward pocket to the interchange box

And this is why I fear we will get SFA for Brodie and 2MP, I know they are contracted but it’s hard to argue a good deal for the same as you have mentioned with Atkins OB

Oh we are getting SFA for those guys. Especially if they are overpaid and not getting games.

That's the game you play when you contract a player and pay them on potential and they don't live up to it.

GWS end up having to give these types of players away to pay players that are best 22.

Fortunately we have the good young players already and the club need to dump their expensive fringe players to be able to structure their cap to bring in a gun FA or trade in a gun.

DGB has played league all year and i wouldn't be too fussed with those measurements, his WAFL page has him 188cm,78kg so theres no way in hell he grew 7cm without putting any weight on.

He has Philips rated pretty low if he was available at our pick (5-6) I would be all over that.

Played with Rowell and Anderson last year at Chargers and didn't look out of place with them from a talent perspective. Would walk into our side's best 22 right now.

I did watch alot of Phillips last year and gee would be nice to have Rowell Anderson & Phillips but if we are taking him with pick 5-6 i would rather trade that for a gun midfielder. Will be tough for him to get a game over Rowell/Miller/Swallow/Fiorini

Trust me there are plenty interested in coming. Plenty. They are tripping over each other.
SO I'M TOLD.
