I find it interesting the hype that was built up over a possible treloar move to the suns compared to the availability of Brad Crouch as a free agent.

Yes I feel Treloar is a marginally better player then Crouch. You could argue their chance of injury is similar at the moment. They both have offield issues treloar with mental health and crouch with drug indiscretions. Crouch is 1 year younger and arguably would not have a cloud over his head of how long he would stay as was discussed with Treloar earlier in this thread.

In summary ive changed my opinion on picking up Brad crouch compared to earlier this year. Its clear we need a 25+yo A grade mid and unless these rumours of merret, hunter, Smith etc are true Crouch appears to be best available. Also considering he is a free agent and other parties have cooled on him and his asking price dropping. If we could pick him up for $600-$700k on a 4-5 yr contract id be happy with that.

If it's Treloar v Crouch, treloar every day of the week. Brings some more diversity to the table with what we have in our midfield mix at the moment, i.e. someone who really finds the pill

So from all the talk in recent days, Cal Twomey mentioned Davies and Jefferies are the 2 18 year olds that would get pre-listed. So guess Brodie Lake is not on the agenda.

I expected as much, Lake while impressive is super raw and with small lists we can't really be holding on to too many project players

25 years old. His body has let him down, footy gods have not been kind to him.

But was a top 10 pick in the draft in 2013. Has been fit for over a year now, but seems to kept being overlooked this year. He was the obvious choice replacement for Howe, played 2 games, then Madgen was picked over him.
191cm. 93kg. A good intercept mark defender. But was never played anywhere else. With his ability to read the ball and a good mark, I would look at him even in the forward line.

Would come free as a DFA. Maybe the QLD weather would be good for his body.


Though I may suggest he might look to go home to SA. But I imagine he'll look at any opportunity

I feel like he isnt the sort of defender we need, Ballard plays the intercepting role already and Shaz isn't exactly what you'd call a stopper. I hope he gets another gig but not with us

3 ACLs is a big no unless we want him as a Thompson's buddy in the rehab. We have players playing his role.

I can’t see too many Ruck/Forwards you would spend pick 5 on. Joe Daniher? Max King? If 2MP leaves, we’d probably try to get one, but not with pick 5. We might as well bring back Goober. Also the line about us having rights to all of NT is wrong, as far as I understand it. Isn’t it just Darwin?

You could get Daniher for free via free agency if you were prepared to pay enough for a band 1 compo (about $700k base salary). Brisbane are offering just below that, and the difference between end of rd1 compo and pick 7 is huge. Essendon would be very keen to try to influence Joe to go to GC if they offered enough. Lots of other possibilities as well - some trade involving 2MP (since we are supposed to be interested), possibly Brodie, or just an agreement to scratch each others' backs if GC helps get Essendon band 1 compo.

Personally, I think Ruck/Forward interest is just Ralph's BS based on Wrigh being on the open market. If Crows don't select Thilthorpe with pick 1 he may be a chance to last until pick 5.

The word today is that list sizes likely to be very minimal, 2 players from the primary list and same rookies. But how does that affect the suns list size is another question.

Yeah, hopefully SUNS will still have 4-6 extra. 42 -> 46-48. On the other hand, cuts to soft cap and follow on effect on development/welfare staff is against having too many young players under development. It will be also interesting how they set up a reserve team and not only SUNS, but also Lions, Swans, GWS.

Phillips from the Pies I would look at, but we're not getting him as well as Atkins. I'd prefer Phillips over Atkins. Just better in nearly every facet and probably the same price. I wonder if we regret committing to Atkins so early in the piece.

Think if we are likely to take an extra academy player it will be a 19 year old one like Murtagh and Conroy as its our last time to pick them up, the others can just stay in the Academy for the extra year (unless a bid) and not cost the club anything. Think the club would also like to promote the fact that there is a pathway by spending that extra year in the academy. All the kids you have listed are gifted but really need to play at Allies level like Jeffery to see who is the best of them, Nicholls may be the better player of all of them in 5 years.

Would he be an upgrade on the above? Not so sure

He’s nominated Brisbane and in all honesty he’s too injury prone to spend big $$$ on. Plus it’s only Dons fans that see him as the “generational talent” they keep banging on about. If Essendon was chasing him Dodo would be offering a 2nd rounder

Academy and non academy

We have a couple of 19 year olds, one played in Premiership for Morningside , one was the leading small forward in the Qafl and Allies last year, a couple others like Selsby won a play of the round. Guess they have the runs on the board where some others havent

My point again is why pick a 18 year academy player when they wont get picked up by another side and can go around again next year without forking out money on a contract, that is crazy list management

Unsure. His brother plays for st kilda. He lives out of the city. But who knows. The right offer, he would have to look at it.

At the moment we got 42 players including Towey, Murtagh, Conroy, Oea (ACE). If the lists are cut only by 2 from 44 to 42 and SUNS maintain proportionally extra list spots the SUNS list would go from 51 to 49. So there would still be 7 spots available. After adding Atkins, pick 5, Jeffrey, Davies still 3 spots would be available. Let' see the new list sizes hopefully soon.

Jeffrey showed more than enough. I watched All Star NT game, he was great.
