That's a good effort holding him all year seeing he only averaged 80
I didn’t hold him all year. I brought him in around ~R15 (whenever Melbourne played Carlton) as cover for the likely Gawn out that duly eventuated and he delivered me a 125. I then just floated him around as cover where I needed for the rest of the year.

I guess my point was it’s not as simple as “you’re bad at SC for picking xyz”. This kent of a game brings up multiple situations. Sometimes they have agricultural solutions :moustache:

Yeah I know I was just taking the piss I actually picked him but it was round 23 and all I could afford after someone got injured I can't remember who. From memory he scored pretty good too.

A really rough prospect to keep an eye on is Ben Long at St Kilda. $283K forward who is now playing off half back. Would need to show significant form in the NAB cup to warrant a selection, but has the potential for some decent scoring with cheap disposals (including kick ins).

"I think it will be similar to 2018 when I was a little bit more mid than forward." Devon Smith on his role in season 2020. He also said it was the first time since 2015 he's had a smooth run in the preseason. Does this change your view on him in 2020

With Heeney now out of my team I am finding it hard to justify anyone apart from Dusty in the 450k+ range. Whitfield has missed a ton of games and there's no way I'm paying 600k for him. Everyone else has question marks.

Seriously considering Dusty Dev Smith and then rookies. Am I crazy?

Walters? I downgraded Whitfield to Walters simply due to durability, to free up a little cash for a couple of other moves.

Who are these 4 on field rookies you’re confident of playing and providing solid scores?

Walters is full priced and I’m not paying 550k for a guy who probably spends more time forward this year. At some stage Freo need to blood their young guns (Brayshaw, Cerra, Tucker) more inside with guys like Blakely etc so it’s a no from me.

Who are these 4 on field rookies you’re confident of playing and providing solid scores?

Hill, Bonar, Rankine, King, Cockatoo, Brander and then could be possible blokes like Flanders, Skinner, Budarick, Weightmann, Cavarra, McAdam, Hosie, Bergman and evening Georgiades.

The reasoning is more about the trash forward premiums and way more surebet premium guys across other lines.

Lot of competition for spots at St Kilda. Picking the guys on the fringes is fraught with danger, especially at that price. Even if picked rd 1, how long a leash does he get before he gets dropped?

Even if you just limit things to their likely back 6 come rd 1, Roberton, Geary, Carlisle all returning (maybe Webster in the mix too???). Howard a new addition. All of Battle (19), Wilkie (22), Paton (12), McKenzie (15), Clark (14) and Savage (22) would have claims on playing given the number of games each played last year.
I like Long, just think he'll find it pretty tough to break in early-on given the more proven commodities in that area of the ground.
I find it a really puzzling move TBH, given St Kilda aren't exactly flush with small forwards. Surely he'd have more of a chance of playing in that role?

As a side note, with regards to competition for spots at St Kilda, I would think that if you got St Kilda fans on Big Footy to do their Best 22's for Rd 1, that you would see some vastly different teams being put forward. Anyone want to have a crack?

Fair points but Ratts was strong on Long playing half back when he was on SEN this morning.
I expect Robbo to start in the 2s this year. Webster underdone so may start in the 2s as well. Geary is a back pocket only.

Doesn't mean Long keeps his spot but i reckon he starts the year there and it's his spot to lose

Fwiw my round 1 back 6 are

Geary, Howard, Wilkie
Coffield / Clark, Carlisle, Long

He certainly uses the ball really well, and is creative with it. I even remember watching him back in his VFL days, it was clear even then. Just hasn't really won enough of it to show much of that at AFL level yet. Interested to see how accountable he can be in 1 on 1's.

Still not sure I'd be taking him in SC. Not enough job security for mine, especially at that pricetag.

Thanks for doing the back 6. Tough to know who might get picked. Your's has no room for Savage (interchange?) and Battle who would have to be stiff to miss out given the seasons each of them had last year. Is it beyond the realm of possibility that Carlisle could be in some trouble? If not for Rd 1, perhaps at some point through the season? I really liked what I saw for Battle last year, under pressure too.

Battle is being tried on the wing and a high half fwd. Carlisle definitely needs to perform but he's looking in good nick. Battle too good to play 2s so they'll fit him in somewhere

Savage slots somewhere between best 20 and 24. He can bomb it blindly at times but is a lovely kick so that will fit in with Ratts' plans

Heeney expects to play predominantly forward and also in doubt for round 1. After Horses comments yesterday and his injury sounding worse than thought this pretty much rules him out for me.

Rowbottow, Ollie and Stephens all getting a run though the middle horse  .
Dawson likely to play down back where he has been training.

How's Mayo looking ?

How's he on the spread ? :moustache:.
