Massive news you have the signature of Courtney

This guy? Wonder how we could sign him before draft even..

THE RUCKMEN in this year's NAB AFL Draft look set to be renowned for their athleticism, with three big men running three seconds or under in the 20m sprint at recent national Combine testing days.

Bendigo Pioneers ruckman and Vic Country Academy squad member Aaron Gundry (200cm) ran a time of 2.98sec, while Vic Metro and Sandringham prospect Andrew Courtney (200cm) ran 2.99sec over the distance.

I think Excitement Machine assumed this board cared about AFLW

Oops :p.. I went straight to the 19 year old ruckman list of mine like Zak Patterson and Andrew Courtney haha.

Saw it reported yesterday. Looks like a good pickup for the team.

Hey guys. Was chatting to a random North fan on insta about some SuperCoach stuff and he mentioned that Brisbane were looking very closely at trying to pry Charlie Comben out of the Roos. Absolutely no idea if this is credible and don’t know him personally. so obviously take with a grain of salt. But has anyone else heard similar whispers? Just thought I’d mention it anyway [emoji106]

Only drafted him last year.

Quigley rated him.

I noticed that he was only drafted last year mate. Bloke said he has a bit on mongrel to him also which is a quality I think we should be highly focusing on when bringing in our next ruckman. All in all though, if North rate him highly and he was only drafted last year, doesn’t seem too plausible.

If we wanted Comben last year, why didn't we trade up a bit and get him?
We not have expected him to go that early, and we may not have expected Essendon to bid at our pick 36 on an academy player.

A lot of the talls went earlier, or much earlier, than draft watchers expected last year.

Just watched a clip of Comben, yes please! Shouldn’t cost much you would think.

I hope we are into the likes of Comben and others. I do get annoyed with the ‘obvious’ calls (mainly by journos). It’s this targeting of others that we haven’t thought of which makes me think our list management team know what they’re doing!

His second up efforts and tackling just look fantastic for a big fella. Looks aggressive.
Doesn’t look to have too bad a kick either.

Leigh Montagna has suggested Tex Walker may be a good fit for the club.

“The two clubs that jump to my mind at this point are Brisbane and the Gold Coast Suns. I think someone like Gold Coast, who have already got Ben King who we know is going to be a star. They’ve been using Sam Day who’s been really good this year. Maybe Tex Walker with his leadership and experience, something a bit different as an avenue to goal.

“Or Brisbane Lions if they’re trying to win that flag with the two young key forwards they’ve got.”

A good plan B if we can't land Daniher. Have also felt the "Tex is cooked" sentiment has been overstated by a number of factors i.e. Adelaide's sharp decline, leadership questions, the camp etc.

Could be that gorilla forward we need and a great mentor to the likes of Hipwood and McStay - leading patterns, goal kicking etc.

No thanks. Tex is cooked.

He did kick 43 goals last season. Surely he still has some use.

My only issue with Tex is that he's not tall enough to play 2nd ruck. Do we have to bring McStay or Hipwood back to do that?

I could get more kicks than Tex Walker. He can't even jump anymore and his second efforts are non existent. He is one of the reasons why the Crows are winless. He is so cooked that I doubt he could dominate in NEAFL let alone AFL.

Also, he'll be 31 by round 5 next year!

I would personally rather us look at Paddy McCartin over someone like Tex Walker. McCartin would come at a much lesser price salary wise, and in my opinion has far greater upside.

McCartin turns 25 next year, he fits the list profile well. He is last listed at 195cm & 100kg. He kicked 34 goals in an injury interrupted 35 games at St Kilda.

If he’s fit and over his concussion battles I really think he could add something to our list. There’s a reason he’s a former number 1 draft pick, he’s shown signs of being a great footballer. Best case scenario he comes in as a big strong bodied contested marking & goal kicking third tall. Worst case, he doesn’t make it and gets delisted. On the plus side, he wouldn’t cost us a pick, worth a go.

Is there any way of testing for this though? I'm assuming that hitting his head with a blunt object with increasing force until we observe signs of concussion isn't acceptable in this day & age. I recall people were concerned with his future in the game because he was concussed on a few occasions by contact that was just regular contact you'd get in any marking contest.
