Essendon's pick next year might be top 5, and it's supposed to be a fantastic draft at the top end. I wouldn't quite call it crazy to trade that pick for Dunkley, but by heck that'd be a tough price to pay. Could be the new Croad for Hodge deal.

To be fair I initially read it that way too, but then I read it more closely.

I agree, but first round picks this year are worth basically nothing to the dogs so I can't see how else the deal is done. A top 10 pick is overs for the dogs to send to treloar given how desperate the pies are to get his salary off the books.

Treloar can get done for pick 14. Maybe Essendon has to find someone willing to accept a future first for picks 7 and 8, who doesn't have a bottom 5 level list like they do. Maybe Freo if they back themselves to rise up the ladder next year.

More than enough, considering (well everything)🤔
thought the dogs needed a pick for their NGA. Rated #1. so will need points. pick 7 or 8 gives them lots.
If we trade 18-19 for 7
Dons give 8-18 to dogs Dunkley
19 to GWS Cadwell
Dogs give 18 to pies for Treloar
use 8 for NGA
dogs get 14 to use on a kid.
We use 7 for someone like Philips/Henry?

Also I forgot to say, if the Dogs go into deficit this year, the points will come off their 2021 pick anyway. They have to pay for JUH one way or another, so there's still a value in getting picks this year.

Any deficit would (I think) apply to the Dogs' own picks tied to their ladder position before any traded in future picks, if what I am reading out of this article pre last year's draft is correct: https://www.afl.com.au/news/149358/...-a-green-bid-will-cause-a-giant-draft-deficit

Given AFL rules state that deficits must be first wiped from that particular club's own picks based on its ladder position, before picks traded in via elsewhere – provided it is in the same round of the draft – it means the Giants are looking at a potentially very late start next year.

If that is correct, the points go off the Dogs 2021 picks first, meaning that traded in 2021 picks would not be affected unless there was a deficit remaining. Plus they can still probably pay for JUH with other trading for say second rounders this year, rather than getting in a top 10 pick that will be totally absorbed by a bid with some points still to be made up.

However, I don't think this has been previously tested so I don't know if the AFL, in typical making up rules on the run, would let them trade in Ess's 2021 first which could be top 5 and then have the defict apply to their own first rounder which could blow out from say pick 14 to pick 20ish.

Got a mega trade for you guys to consider:

Essendon trade 8 to Brisbane for 18 and your future first.

Essendon send 18 to GWS for Caldwell.

Essendon send Bulldogs their two future firsts (theirs and yours) for Dunkley.

Keeps Bulldogs out of this year’s draft and gives them two firsts in next year’s. Albeit yours isn’t likely to be that high.

Essendon get Dunkley and Caldwell for pick 8 and next year’s first. Given Bulldogs apparently want two firsts for Dunkley I think that’s a win.

Lions get picks 8 and 19 in this year’s draft, but no first next year.

do not think we trade next years first.
We have no list spots this year so only drafting in 2 players. Highest pick , Blake Coleman and Fullarton (upgrade) it seems
so Having 8,19 and 53 plus change for rookie upgrade this year is one too many picks

Could make it 18 and 19 then, and Bulldogs could trade one of those for Treloar with Essendon trading the other to GWS for Caldwell.

I think our focus is to turn our two picks this year into one which we can possibly do without taking from next year.

I personally have no interest in selling off a future first that cheaply, particularly as 2021 is supposed to be a much better draft.

Would much prefer 18 and 19 this year rather than 1 next year.
We may only take 1 pick this year along with academy and rookie upgrade.

Very excited to have Cockatoo across. The Cats are a class club, have proven consistently they are very reasonable to deal with.

I met Nakia's dad Jason a couple of years back who had moved down from Darwin to help him transition to life in Victoria. He seemed a lovely guy, extremely humble and looked like he was fit enough to play AFL himself. Obviously an accomplished state level player in his own right.

Excited to see what he might be able to produce if fit. It is terrific to have some genuine speed on the list now - it was only a few years ago that we looked flat footed. Cameron, Cockatoo, Bailey and a couple of others all with that line-breaking ability. Pace has become arguably more important than ever these days to disrupt the way teams set up through the middle of the ground.

Take two:

Essendon trade 8 to Brisbane for 18 and 19.

Essendon send 19 to GWS for Caldwell.

Essendon send Bulldogs 18 and their future first for Dunkley.

Bulldogs send 18 to Collingwood for Treloar.

Keeps Bulldogs out of this year’s draft (apart from their existing pick which they still have to get rid of) and they get Treloar and a probably-top ten future first for Dunkley.

Essendon get Dunkley and Caldwell for pick 8 and next year’s first. Given Bulldogs apparently want two firsts for Dunkley I think that’s a win.

other option do we trade 18/19 for crows 22 and future first
Get the crows 2 more picks this year we slide slightly and get another next year when draft stronger and we might have spots.

Crows are not trading their future first for a pick that will blow out to pick 22-26 this year. Their future first could easily be top 5.

works for us :) just thinking other options for 18/19.
Best bet as above we turn swap with bombers.. Helps them get Dunkley and Caldwell
Helps dogs with Treloar

This is what is great about our club atm.

One of our star players posts, on a very public forum, a footy moment he could have tried to forget. Instead, its posted as a sign of respect to a new member joining the club. Charlie does not have ego-out-of-control issues, and I'm sure that's a calling card of the players we currently have on our list, and the reason we are rapidly moving to the top of the heap.

Love this moment.

Dodoro has copped a lot of sh*t across the footy world for his stance and dealings. Does he get credit now?

Two of those 3 picks are only that high because Essendon were so woeful on-field in 2020 (their 6 pick and the compo for Daniher)

So if you feel that the woeful performance was as a result of Dodo’s poor list management over the years, then you definitely give him ‘credit’ for at least 2 of those 3 picks! 😉😂

That’s as far as you need to go. We don’t care about the rest.

Crows aren’t trading their future first. They already have their eye on the top SA kid in next years draft, Jason Horne.

Yes, I've heard they're horny for Horne.
