Definitely in the case of Van Rooyen.

I've got no knock on our picks last night just our tactics over the last few years or so . But unless you're in the inner circle and specifically know the circumstances it's hard to comment. But this is a blog and we're entitled to our opinions.

The club is always happy with the outcome but they did seem genuinely satisfied last night.

JVR was rated behind Lohman.

Wilmot and Lohman were the clubs best case outcome for our first round of the draft.

This was made clear throughout the night, before we made a pick.

Also from Danny Daly's radio interview - if the right talent slips, we'll take them. Otherwise, he said it is needs based and mentioned a tall forward or defender in that context.

So that might mean that we had a talent priority list, and all the players we had on that list were taken.

Left a jumble of equally likely players so we move onto a pick a position player tactic.

Makes sense to me.

I wonder if they specifically look for heart and soul players who bring energy to training and game day.

That's a really important role that gets way undervalued by fans, but it's highly valued by the players and coaches (they often talk about their contribution).

The post draft interview with Wilmot (and his mates) showed that he may fall toward that category. Might have influenced his selection.

It’ll push back one or two spots with the two St Kilda NGA’s. Maybe another spot if a team bids on Ports kid early.

Still the same talent pool regardless.

Likely higher when Fahey, Owens, and potentially, Windhager bids come in ....... I would expect all to come before 40, and GWS and St Kilda have no picks before 40.
