So it's pretty clear it'll be Bernal winning and Caruso seems like he isn't having bad days (yet).

Yates gave me hope for somewhat of a challenge but today has basically put him on the outside chance of a podium. Bardet, Vlasov and Carthy seem to be the three who'll round out the top 5.

Can BikeExchange get a decent GC chance one of these years or?

So let's have a look at the battle for the podium (because let's be honest, Bernal has it bar a crash).

2. Caruso. Can he maintain this form? He's never been in the position to do this.
3. Carthy. Legs look good but he struggled after the rest day last week, can't have a bad day on Wednesday
4. Vlasov. He's struggling, looks like he'll drop away, not completely sure he'll do much.
5. Yates. STOP GIVING ME HOPE YOU BASTARD
6. Ciccone. He's been good. Really good. Not a great TT though, in comparison to a few here.
7. Bardet. Legs look very good. Needs to carry this momentum post rest day.

Remco's fall away was always going to happen given it's his first 3 week race and has barely raced in 12 months. Looking forward to him probably racing the Vuelta and getting a much better result than this.

Mountains classification is pretty much a race in 2 at this point. There are a maximum of 118 points left in the race for blue. Bouchard probably needs to get in the break again tomorrow and take as many points as possible to be any chance. He'd want to be over 30 ahead of Bernal heading into stage 20 where there's 45 points up for grabs and he can win it on the first climb.

Racing in these kind of conditions is brutal. Raced up Mt Buffalo one day and it had started snowing at the top, you can't feel your hands to change gears, can't tell if your legs are about to cramp or just frozen from the cold. For Bardet to ride as well for a really thin guy is really impressive. Now the countdown will be on for the Pogacar/Bernal showdown, might have to wait till next year.

The final climb in stage 17 is the toughest of the Giro - Expect significant gaps.
Certainly looks it

Apparently this happened when they used this climb during the 2013 Giro del Trentino 😅
