Looks like we have made a few inquiries late for a couple of fringe tall forwards. On top of Riccardi, I've heard we've inquired about; Mclean & Amartey from Sydney, Koschitzke from the Hawks and Sam Day from GC.

Don't think has been much traction with any of them though (including Riccardi)
We probably asked, and the clubs probably laughed and just didn’t take us seriously “you guys don’t recruit this kind”

Nobody is saying a second round pick will always lead to a star, but it is a roll of the dice. Each roll you have a chance to unearth someone who didn't peak early, there is still that potential to get a star in the second round.

2014: Touk Miller
2015: Josh Dunkley
2016: Shai Bolton, Sean Darcy, Thomas Stewart
2017: Tim Kelly, Liam Ryan,Spargo, De Koning, Fritsch
etc

A lot depends on how good the talent is, some years are leaner than others, there are plenty of solid players in the mix too, they do have a much higher chance of bombing out, but I think that is in part the club mindset. Ie, we persisted with Garner a lot longer that we would have if he was a second round pick. Would Saints value Clark if he was a second or third round pick?

Most clubs just can't afford to keep second round picks on a list long enough for them to come good if they encounter significant setbacks early. We rated EVW highly, a couple of early LTIs... sorry, we can't wait any longer, bye.
Oh 2016

What a year.

We could have had 2 of Sean Darcy, Brennan Cox and Tom Stewart, instead we took Williams and Watson.

I'd go for Wardlaw as well at #1.

I think it is the main reason we traded number one, it seems we do not want to be forced to take him because he is the best option for number one. He wouldn't get to play in the guts early with Cunners/Simpkin around and the club probably thinks Simpkin/Phillips is the go to longer-term.

I think this is the danger with high end inside mids though, if you have two years to keep them at the club and realistically, the first two years the VFL is probably the best place to be as an inside mid, you need someone who is going to buy-in to the long-term vision.

Sheezel can play forward or the wing, both are areas we are deficient in. He could realistically get into the side next year and have an early impact, I think he is the obvious #2 for me.

Cadman would be great at #3, if we still have the pick, not sure if people realise but he used to play wing prior to this year, he only was tried out up forward this year. Big left foot kick, great endurance and he would be the kind of player you can play in a variety of roles. As good as he has been up forward this year, I think he has the potential to be a big bodied midfield like Bont and when you push him forward he can do scoreboard damage.

Our biggest issue is our tsunami of misfits, from Ziebell to CCJ, Xerri, etc we treat our forward line as a dumping ground or extended interchange bench, getting more guys who are good for forward roles would force us to address the elephant in the room that we carry a lot of guys with dubious on-field impact.

Mahoney and Lazzaro finished the season as part of our forward line. Sheezel plays round one imo.

Twomey tweet: North Melbourne have listed a 197cm key defender under DFA..

Oh that's good wonder who that might be?

Twomey tweet: The kangaroos are confident Matthew McGuinness' best football is in front of him

12.30am standing on the edge of the dance floor watching on as all your mates pash girls, whilst holding back tears and quietly taking a sip of Bourbon & Coke, vowing there'll be plenty more (big) fish in the trade period next year.

You reading my year 9 diary again?

Yep, order minimum chips at the draft this year and go all in next year; more list spots available, better talent, deeper draft. Order fried dimmies, potato cakes, chiko rolls, corn jacks, crab sticks even get some onion rings.
Scallops (the shellfish variety) or GTFO.
