Didn't realise our fan base had turned into Carlton supporters.

Geezus.

One practice match win and we're on the way to glory. Let's just ignore the last 5 years of continual injuries and an inability to score goals. I would love nothing more than to be wrong and if that time comes I'll still be here.

I am looking forward to the game this weekend - it wont mean much but hopefully it is enjoyable, our ball movement stays slick, wce put on more pressure, no injuries and we see Young, Chappy, Clark, Henry and Freddy continue to build fitness and form.

From the weekend I think Brayshaw did some exciting things that showed development in his game. A couple of beautiful passes to the lead. Another that went through Tabs arms, another that he hit on his left like a bullet to the lead. He broke tackles well and led the mids. It is also a positive that he can do all that and not get talked about too much as I think it means we expect him to play well each week. Big positive.

What is exciting me is that we are having a great injury run, the young talent group and the level of depth.

Interesting you say that because I was talking about it during the game how Wilson will always try and get the handball from the guy who marked outside 50 and go for goal himself instead. Think he's only kicked behinds from those instances. Not really set shots, but he definitely backs himself in for a shot on goal from outside 50.
Yep, I agree. I recall his pings on goal here & there but I don't remember him nailing any. I think that's been confused with Wilson not going for em

Imagine getting trounced back to back by a hundred odd points. Not how you’d like to roll into round 1.
Gee I hope it happens!
Hahaha I'd love this too, though you know Wet Toast will rightfully claim only one of the two were 100 point beatings ;p

Doesn’t matter that we may just miss out on the top 8, it will be close.
What is clear is that we have a broader spread of talent than we did in
2012-2015.
Sure we had champions and plenty of foot soldiers.
Yet to see Freo draft, recruit better and that what wins premierships.
I’d argue that in our prime with Ross we actually drafted, traded poorly.
Walls has been a revelation, so glad Lloyd is at Carlton.

Walls has been awesome.

Bell won't allow any head cases into the club and JLo will always put the club first.

Murphy will be the next Balme in terms of culture building.

Exciting times.

Denigrate? I would say my criticism of our club is quite fair considering our current position.

What do you think I said was unfair? Didn't we smash the Eagles in a 2018 practice match?

I would be very happy being wrong but to think that we are out of the woods yet is as premature. Would love to be wrong but I'm yet to see it.
Nothing wrong with different opinions

I agree, but WC in 2018 were in their prime. Even on Big Footy they are already talking about Hewitt as their first round pick, training with the club.
We spanked them like playing a bottom 4 team and rested several stars.

I like the optimism regarding Bell, but I'm also aware he was a Board member for quite a while, and was there when Hogan was brought in. I also think he has an inclination towards deflecting responsibility. But we do pull off some impressive moves.

I'll wait and see what happens over the next couple of drafts /trade periods.

You realize that Hogan was skipped out by Bell.

Enough was enough and the club has learnt.

I think we are done, won’t get a top 10 pick for quite awhile. Just need astute picks
and Walls has done this regarding our rookie picks, NGA.
We have gone local and in two drafts picked 8 West Aussies.
The nucleus is there, talent undeniable.

I don't think he's been a board member.

I'd back Chapman and Young to dob them for outside 50 as well

Not sure about Hayden. I think he prefers to hit up a leading forward.
He has pulled off some fantastic passes to loose forwards with little room for error.
Hayden could still take the long shot on goal but of the three, Clark , Chapman and himself I reckon Hayden
is the most limited for range.

Young also seems to need that extra second on the kick release to be effective - that also means getting back off the mark enough and quick enough

I think it’ll get him unstuck a bit

I like smashing the weagles as much as anyone but it’s a shame we didn’t have a game against better opposition before the season started. I’ve no idea how we’ll go against Sadelaide

Surely we call Subi. At least they have a game plan and a healthy team

Yeti getting a hard time here for his opinion but I think he’s not far off the truth. I’d have us in the fringes of the 8 at the moment (if we stay injury free).
For me there are several question marks over the team still.
  • this side is COMPLETELY unproven in big games. We literally have no idea which players will lift their game in a final and who will retreat into their shells.
  • Jlo has yet to beat a decent, proper, contending team in his 37 games as a coach.
  • there was a rather worrying theme that kept happening last year. We would win a game or two against a lower ranked side, start hovering around the 8, then get a bit of media attention, “jeez aren’t freo going well, they are a genuine finals contender, etc etc”
We would then proceed to turn in an absolutely horrifically shite effort the following weekend. This happened several times, against Carlton, west coast in the first derby (probably the worst freo performance in 10 years), Geelong, Carlton a second time, Brisbane.
  • good teams rise to big occasions. When there is any expectation on us, we turn to shit. We have to improve this area massively in the new season.
  • I still have my doubts about us having premiership key forwards. Tabs is great but he’s not at the level of Hawkins/Riewoldt/Kennedy/buddy/Roughead which have all led recent premiership sides. Lobb I just don’t rate at all as a premiership quality player. Treacy looks great but he’s only 19. Yes - I know Melbourne did it with some lesser lights in their forward line but they have 3 generational players at every centre square bounce and fritsch hit a purple patch in the finals which helped too. We will need a lot of luck to win a flag with his forward line.
  • just one docker has kicked more than 40 goals in a season since 2015 (Michael Walters)

Just trying to counterbalance with some reasons as to why Yeti’s point of view is still valid.

Not sure if this has been posted before.

Fremantle have received approval from the AFL for West Perth key forward Tyler Keitel to train at the Club.

Jeepers - Eagles can't take a trick. Now their train-on's are crossing the floor.

They've gone with Dixon.

We've knocked off teams in the 8, but you're right in saying we haven't taken a top 4 scalp for a while. It's certainly something they would like to tick off.

This is my biggest concern. We need to continue to develop KPFs. Ideally, Tracy comes on, we fastrack Amiss and get another at the end of the year (or sooner).
