Ok double up games IMO.

Not ideal having to go to Darwin and Tassie.

Pretty challenging first 6 weeks.

So literally no compo for Gather Round, we (and Carlton) have to cop one more away game and Port get one extra home game? I can’t get over it.
I think we’ve been shafted with double ups to be honest, remembering we finished 8th so should have a medium difficulty when it comes to double ups.

For our one top 4 double up we’ve got the Premiers, including a game in Geelong. Rather than a Melbourne for an MCG game, or a Sydney/Bris who are flakey at best, especially in Melbourne.

Out of our middle table double ups we’ve got probably the 3 best in Port, Tiges & Freo and GWS/Hawks not too bad but means two genuine away games rather than an Essendon/Norf which equals another away game at our home venue (which would have been fair given our extra away game…)

Throw in the extra away game, a heap of travel, lack of MCG and on first read I think it’s a really tough and shitty draw for us, to be expected though. Will wait on further breakdowns of it and look a bit deeper to make a full conclusion.

At least some are optimistic, but that’s a pretty hard draw we have copped for only scraping into finals & no obvious compo for losing Good Friday & burdened with an extra away game over 14 other clubs.

Currently only 1 Friday night home game, and it’s against an interstate club. I know the 2nd half floating fixture is used to reward the better teams, but I’d expected a fixture against a Melbourne team that would have drawn a favourable crowd on a Friday night

Just looking at other teams boards for their reactions. Seems a fair few people are tipping us to go backwards this season. Even on the predictions thread.

It’s pretty rough when you compare to Melbourne who finished one spot below.

Their double ups are: GWS, ST Kilda, Eagles, pies, Melbourne, Suns

Bad fixture. Geelong in Geelong (gee wonder why), Hawks in Tassie, Suns in Darwin and not GC, no bye after Darwin game (not even an 8 day break), and consecutive weeks of travel with going to Perth 6 days after the Gather round. After being one of the 2 out of 16 teams who has to cop an away ground disadvantage in that round. As people pointed out, tough double ups.

From a fan POV personally where I prefer to attend night games, not the worst.

Could quite easily be 2-4 or worse which would be a disaster for our season, we just need to be 3-3 at least or ideally better and our season will be set up pretty nicely.

Or Carlton’s spot we took, they have been rewarded for attendances last season & their double ups are Collingwood, Melbourne, St Kilda, Gold Coast, Greater Western Sydney, West Coast.

They get a Collingwood who may be a bit flaky, they played with a lot of momentum last season. Melbourne should be tough, Gold Coast could be crap, Saints & GWS will be crap & Eagles will be the worst.

We get Pies too plus the premiers (including at their shithole ground), top 4 candidates Freo, a possibly rebounding Richmond & Port and a crap Hawks/GWS. The double up interstate trips off a 6-day break is ****ing shite.

True, although I think we have the fewest 6 day breaks overall

Do we only have 3 home games inside the first 9 weeks? (It appears the Carlton game is an away game?)

Yep, first 6 rounds are 2 home 4 away and we still end up at 3-6 after round 9.

The only bright spark I’ve found with our fixture is 5 straight games at Marvel in June & first week of July - 4 home games with 2 interstate clubs & Norf away

The bad:
  • Rd 1 away (for the 3rd year in a row- not good from a commercial standpoint).
  • Rd 23 away again - KP game (ho hum AFL, it’s getting old now).
  • Yet again, we don’t get double ups against the Bombers, North, WCE- we get Geelong, Collingwood and Freo
  • This stupid, anything but neutral fixture in Rd 5…
  • Yet another marquee created for the “big” clubs - Carlton/Essendon on Kings Birthday eve: what have they done to deserve that???
  • Two interstate games in 6 days…
  • Having to go to Tassie (again) and Darwin.
  • Less exposure (that’s not a huge surprise though)

The good…
  • We are still in the league.
  • Some more day games.

I’m stuck now

We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender!

Got a good feeling about 2023. If we’re good enough, the opponent/ venue doesn’t matter. I reckon a tough round 23 may be a blessing in disguise.

Given we’re one of only two sides against a team (Port) with a genuine home advantage in that gather round rubbish, you would’ve thought we’d dodge a Perth visit 6 days later.

Less Thursday’s is good, would’ve liked a lot more day games though (we have zero early starts). Going to Geelong so often now is becoming a joke…surely we’re due for a few years break from there.

Is the 7.25pm Round 10 vs Adelaide at Ballarat a misprint?

In terms of strength, I think that’s the plus for us. Looks relatively soft after the Darwin game, i.e. not a string of hard matches and very little travel from Round 12.

At least one more MCG game would’ve been preferable and spread out. Didn’t we play Melbourne and Richmond there early this year too?

Looking for positives, get the Perth trip out of the way early and only once, no QLD trip (probably the AFL’s concession for the Gather Round BS), one Adelaide trip, double ups against terrible Hawks/GWS sides and home games against Pies and Tigers (slots to be determined). Also don’t mind playing down at the cow paddock in the last game of the year.

However playing Port twice within 7 weeks in the first 3 months of the season is absolutely incompetent.

Re: Dees and Tigers at the G it’s an exact copy of the fixture from last year.

Hate the cats double up. Hope they have 1 massive hangover next year. The gws and hawks double ups give dogs some pretty cruisy games if they're switched on next year.
