Ridiculous comment. It is both and you know it.

I guess we will see in a weeks time with what the AFL dish out to North.

The industry have accepted what the McKay compo will be, but will the afl hand them a mid round priority pick prior to that?

Twomey on his podcast implied North could be in a position to trade for GC’s pick 5.

But are they?

Essendon love to communicate what they’re doing via leaks to the media. It’s an annual event.

I would not be at all surprised to find that, as a way of calming the members disappointment of possibly missing on a free agent that they leak that that particular free agent has a knee concern, big or small.

Checked out the * board and even there the unanimous views is the leak is a parting gift from the rare bird.

I do hope we have a hush hush deal with North to trade their teens pick if we help them get Pick 3.

the AFL made up some s**t to get Geelong the pick they needed for Ablett via Motlop leaving in FA. There is absolutely a secret herbs and spices rule they use and it has been proven on multiple occasions

The rules around compensation and FA are deliberately opaque. The AFL have time and time again proven themselves to be a corrupt and unprofessional organisation.

The Buddy incident was long ago but there is absolutely shady undertones to the entire free agency compensation system. The sooner it is fixed, or at least becomes transparent, the better.

It should just be scrapped. It would force teams to match deals and trade or trade players before losing them in free agency.

If they insist on having it, compensation should just be at the end of the round, with full transparency over what triggers end of 1st round, 2nd round, etc etc. A clear table showing what compensation/length of deal eqauls. Multiple FAs in a band you'd just do it in order of lowest ranking team.

So Cal just said

north won’t get Saunders but more likely another pick around 11.

They are chasing pick 4 from Goldy and suggests pick 11 and pick 14 could get it done.

This would mean they would have

Pick 2,3 and pick 5.
No chance GCS should or would accept that without a F1.

WB are offering 10, 17 and F1. The points difference this year is only 70 in NM's favour.

Not sure Cal thought that one through.

The leak is a parting gift from the rare bird… beautiful prose … No further words are needed

If a top pick is being used, it’s an easier sell

It’s what will happen

Bad result for us.. they likely go with McCercher and Duursma, 2 &3, knowing we be unlikely to pick up Curtin given our abundance of intercepting backmen.. Guess we’d go for Watson.. They’d then get Curtin at GCs pick..

Think there is talks about a future end of 1st also being handed to them as well. 11, 14 + F1st(19) would do it.

Gold Coast don't need points.

I am not sure why they would even entertain that trade unless North stupidly threw in a future 1st.

Thanks for the update.

I wonder if GC would even consider firsts this year, won’t they just be eaten up by the Walter bid? Surely they would prefer future firsts

Ben McKay knee issue hopefully nothing.

He's been pretty durable over recent years missing maybe 7-8 games out of 66ish

Not saying its the right or wrong thing , just passing info on that may or may not interest people .
Only thing I can think of as to why his manager has not shut the door is that his preference is to go to Essendon but it's not definitive as in he absolutely wants to get there. "Hawks will do" mindset doesn't fill me with confidence he is coming for the right reasons. That is of course if that's the line of thinking.

Pretty obvious that Essendon have leaked that info about his knee in the hopes that we would question our own medical results with McKay and as a result alter our offer.

Or just a massive coincidence that as soon as we become favourites that negative news leaks.....
Leaked to their media mates who are cheerleading him to go there. There not happy it's going the other way so try and create a distraction that doesn't exist so it forces us to reduce our offer. We won't play this game let me assure you.

This is said every year

Need to stop comparing the players. It’s not that Buddy warranted less. That pick was the highest Hawthorn could of got due to winning the flag that year.

The sooner we stop comparing simply the players and start comparing the entire situation the sooner everyone will feel better

It isn’t the herbs and spices that is the problem, it wasn’t the AFL trying to rip Hawthorn off and they didn’t give Hawthorn end of first round compensation. They gave Hawthorn the most they could in the system they have
When I walk into a store, they don't drop the price because I don't have the success their last customer had. They don't give me a bigger better item for less money because of the success of the last customer. An item's worth is the item's worth, whether I can afford it or not. Its price/compensation has nothing to do with how successful I am.

The AFL compensation pick isn't a retail store though - so it's a really poor comparison.

Exactly, his price was the top band of compensation which in that case was the pick they got

In this case, in Frawley’s case it was the same value based on contracts given which due to where they finished is and was pick 3

If North had won the flag this year they wouldn’t be getting pick 3 it’s a sliding scale based purely on finishing

Band 1 is directly after your first rounder
Band 2 is end of first round

It just so happens due to finishing with the last pick in the first round it is the same outcome

Where are these stores in which I can pick up an item for no outlay and then someone/everyone else pays the “compensation” for it?

No club is going to change their offer based on an internet rumour of a knee issue. Particularly not when they’ve had the opportunity to medically evaluate that player themselves.

The media are just throwing out whatever they like for clicks. This time of year people are ravenous for any tidbit.
