But are they less than a Tom Hawkins turning circle ?

Is there any substance to these rumours about McKay's medical being questionable?
Allegedly there is concern about his knees lasting long term.
True story or just more click bait?

Dream scenario....

McKay announces hawks and despite all the media bluster, contract spits out band 2 because of a whole bunch of triggers. I honestly can't see us offering anywhere near band 1 guaranteed, but I am prepared to be shocked.

A player that will be in the AFL‘s Hall of Fame, who got a golden-eyes massive deal = a million for 10 years.. provided pick ~18

Then Ben Mckay gets pick 3

This is not equalisation. It is hurtful and wrong.

The AFL are known to have their, “secret herbs and spices”. How’s about we know that!

OR are the Elite of the AFL too much above us

fairness has gone.

A leak to counter the constant leaks by McKay's manager talking up the offers.

I don’t get the crying here. We got pick 19 for Buddy because we had pick 18 in the draft BECAUSE WE WERE FRIGGING PREMIERS. We turned that pick into Ben McEvoy who played in our next two premierships. Norf won’t win a premiership until Brent Harvey’s grandson is playing for them.

The compensation pick is based on the side’s draft pick, not the quality of the player leaving. Sydney ****ed with the system that could have allowed us to force a trade and got subsequent draft penalties. Buddy never won another flag, we won another 2. We won - and here you are 10 years later still having a cry?

This is said every year

Need to stop comparing the players. It’s not that Buddy warranted less. That pick was the highest Hawthorn could of got due to winning the flag that year.

The sooner we stop comparing simply the players and start comparing the entire situation the sooner everyone will feel better

It isn’t the herbs and spices that is the problem, it wasn’t the AFL trying to rip Hawthorn off and they didn’t give Hawthorn end of first round compensation. They gave Hawthorn the most they could in the system they have

Wasn't it as simple as being the selection after our R1 pick in 2013, as it will be for Norf in 2023?

You may have a case if this year's premiers lose a free agent to Band 1 compensation and then receive anything other than pick 19 as compensation.

Edit: I'd initially clicked 'Like' to your post when I actually meant to click 'Reply',,, don't dislike the post, though; just disagree with it.

The crying I believe is because there was a rule for exceptional circumstances resulting in better compensation. 60 year trillion dollar deals didn’t trigger that.

Exactly. There is an exceptional circumstances allowance where if the formula fails significantly the AFL can decide the compo.

$10m wasnt enough to be considered exceptional. Even though 10 years on we still havent seen anything close.

Yeah and to prove it was an exceptional circumstance, it's been that decade and no offer has eclipsed it, despite tpp increasing.

100% agree… this is the equalisation policy

I don’t need a case as what other top 50 player has left their top 5 club? The CONCEPTis to have players from top teams leave to lower clubs. Has that happened or has it gone the other way?

How often can thay get this wrong and still get paid big sums.

The conspiracy theories on this board are ******* crazy...
But are they?

Essendon love to communicate what they’re doing via leaks to the media. It’s an annual event.

I would not be at all surprised to find that, as a way of calming the members disappointment of possibly missing on a free agent that they leak that that particular free agent has a knee concern, big or small.

Lynch’s was close and didn’t trigger it either. People need to grow up.

the AFL made up some shit to get Geelong the pick they needed for Ablett via Motlop leaving in FA. There is absolutely a secret herbs and spices rule they use and it has been proven on multiple occasions

The rules around compensation and FA are deliberately opaque. The AFL have time and time again proven themselves to be a corrupt and unprofessional organisation.

The Buddy incident was long ago but there is absolutely shady undertones to the entire free agency compensation system. The sooner it is fixed, or at least becomes transparent, the better.

Ned, all of what you said is clearly historically correct.

First Part: (you are conflating posters). I have never bleated about the compensation pick before today with Norf getting a pick 3.

pick 19 was well spent by the Hawks to get McEvoy. Do you want me to talk about other pick 19 possibility over the years

Norf are about to be become the the team in 2026 that we will have to beat. Under 18 talent-wise… they have us on toast.
