He kicked 10 goals last season which isn't a lot. He's kicked 18 goals in a 45 game career. A goalkicking midfielder is someone who averages a goal a game or more IMO.

I think you’ll find there isn’t many mids who kick a goal a game in the entirety of the comp

Bont was the highest last year with 24 and he played forward quite a bit. Next best are Warner, Cripps and McCluggage with 20 so less than a goal a game

Dunkley is probably closest ....he had 17 goals last year ....so 10 goals from a 21 YO Green, in a struggling side, wasn't bad

Cripps kicked 20. Petracca kicked 19 but kicked 31 behinds. Warner and McCluggage kicked 20. I know there aren't many goal-kicking midfielders but Green kicked less than a few and his scoring was patchy too. Six in the first four rounds then four in the next 17. He kicked the same amount of goals as Daniel Rioli who played halfback for the season.

But yes, we don't live in the age of the goal-kicking midfielder. I know it's hard for midfielders, let alone any player to score in this low-scoring era, but this makes me even more sceptical of the idea that Green is going to be a keeper because he's not a natural scorer (well, I haven't seen that much great forward craft from him) and I think his growth will come from spreading better.

My other argument is I can see Butters being in the top six forwards but I can't see Green in the top eight midfielders.

Seriously though, it's not out of the realm of possibilities. He finished the season scoring well for a team that should have made finals. Surely he gets a decent run to do the same with Essendon.

I like this one! Are there any updates on Cameron? On paper you'd have to go Touk and Darcy but if there were any question marks over Cameron's health you'd almost have to go English and Butters/Green, right?

This one is tough and I've had every player in my team except Touk. I'm leaning towards English and Butters as I'm worried Cameron is going to share ruck duties and he sucks playing with others plus weird injury concerns and I'm waiting to see if they're just dumb rumours or something serious. I love his ability to cover a ruck as a forward and he was my D4 at one stage, but too many doubts.

I also think English will score well and I think Butters has room to grow. If you're like me and think his injuries in 2022 were dumb unluck rather than being injury prone then he's a good option. He's not in my team because I can't afford him and I've already got three forward premiums on the same bye (Taranto, Coniglio and Rozee).

I took Green out today, and added Butters.
Something about that L5 AVG always gets me.

There isn't much around Greens price I like.
Some interest in Cerra/Serong/Newcombe/Sam Berry but it's been very hard to split them all.

It's an interesting one isn't it?

Since I put Worpel in for Milera by throwing McLean forward, it's the only thing in my side that I now have a question mark over.

The way I see it, as others have too, is that if Cameron is fit and the Number 1 choice, then he should score close to English - and Touk is of course a safe Captain's choice most weeks as an uber premo lock.

However, if there is any doubt over Cameron at all, then someone who presents more value but could 'breakout' in their position, seems a better choice - as English will likely be a Top 2 ruck.

The safer choice in essence is probably English and Green/Butters - Butters more favoured given he could easily be Top 6 and I get a mid/fwd link. Problem with Butters though, is he's a walking injury waiting to happen. Had him basically most of last season, and he was INFURIATING with how often he'd get injured/go missing/get thrown up forward. Green is safer in that regard, as he has a clear role, his score should increase, and he doesn't get injured like Butters does given his size.

With all this said, current setup is D. Cameron and Touk, and will stay that way until we have more info from PS practice matches and training. Going English and Butters could lilely give me a Top 2 and Top 6 position player respectively, but for now, I'm going the uber premo and discount ruck over the premo and breakout mid or forward.

Either way, it's one or the other, haha.

Before we laugh him out the door, is Zac Williams a genuine option down back?

Priced at 612k and apparently fit and firing all PS again. With Doch moving into the midfield, does that mean Williams slots into his best position back on the back flank where he’s an 80+ player?

He’s the type that if you’re playing risky, do you gamble he plays the first 2-3 months and can be a quick stepping stone to a premo? Wouldn’t select him with the hope of getting 22 games as that’s a pipe dream.

No issue having both imo

I currently do but butters is prob least secure in my squad

I want both but not sure I’ll go that way. Have Butters at the moment.

Now changed to Steele, Macrae, Grundy & Coniglio.

I like the uniqueness of the first lot. The second has the runs on the board though.

The Smith / Macrae are a ......the next two just a rung down the ladder

That said, sometimes pricing impacts these decisions .....can't have the best on every line ....not enough money

Will likely be starting two of these as things stand.

I like Smith. He's younger than Macrae and I think he'll see more time on ball winning contested possessions. Started really well last season.

Petracca I low-key really like. I listened to one podcast which believed his career will go down the same way Martin's has, but I don't see it. Richmond tried to diversify, but I think Melbourne still use Petracca as a prime mover, and even if he plays forward a bit he's still capable of scoring highly. He maybe doesn't average 110, but maybe 105? He had the weird sickness mid season which knocked him around. He might be like... the 10th? Around the 10th highest scoring midfielder which may not be enough. I think people might fade him and wait for him to get mid/fwd status and pick him as a forward if he ends up playing more forward. If he plays midfield mainly he'll be in the top eight midfielders for sure.

As for McLuggage, he'll be a POD. He's 24 though and and has Dunkley competing for points.

Defence is not a bad line in which to have a shy at the stumps with a random POD like Williams.

Think we will all be doing fix up trades in that line early doors anyway as the premiums are so unreliable outside of Docherty.

You will be on tenterhooks every day though for the random injury news which sucks.
