I think that's true, but it's also an example of how little we've always thought about that position - we seem to just be happy with a warm body as back up ruck, and it's been like that for 10+ years.
I think this is my main issue with the club

At what stage does someone say '' wait hang on this cant be the way to go ''

I understand with multiple balls in the air that just letting one spot slide can be the easy thing but its symptomatic of our cultural approach

Making hard decisions seems to be hard - it seems we are happy to '' let things slide '' until we find ourselves in a difficult spot and then take the easy approach and let them slide again

we know what the club thinks, because that's what they've done. You continue to state the obvious in every single one of these posts.

This is about our views as the fans of said club. Said club that has achieved little more than zero in 10+ years.

And exactly zero in 7

Are you lost?
There is a specific AFLW section of this forum.
Do you struggle with the concept of Club?

Apparently the Ferrari boot polisher is part of the Ferrari team but the Adelaide Football Club Women’s team, that is part of the premier AFLW competition, shares our club rooms and holds the record AFL attendance at the revitalised Adelaide Oval is not part of the Club.

How come you’ve not previously talked about the woman’s program when discussing the performance of the men’s team? Because that’s the discussion, about the men’s team.

Strachan can't be cut until the end of the year. The only way a player can be delisted mid-season is if they are sacked for cause, as happened with Stengle. Doing it because you ****ed up your list management is not an excuse that the AFL would agree to.

Recruiting a backup or replacement for Strachan (i.e. McAndrew) can't happen until the MSD, and requires a player to suffer a season-ending injury between now & then. This would allow us to put the injured player on the Inactive List, allowing us to draft McAndrew in the MSD. That player doesn't have to be Strachan.

Or… he retires.

Jenny comes good again...intel or another exceedingly good guess? :)

Jenny has access to the best intel on this whole forum IMHO

BACCS called it first
Also that was just a suggestion from Jenny, didn’t come across as intel imo.

That's kind, but not really accurate, I just felt he'd do the right thing. He didn't actually retire, just allowed himself to be ruled out for the rest of the season. I get some good intel... but not very often.

How much though?

I agree - my figure starts with a 6 but I can see a manager asking for a 9
Got close on Draper of the Essendon variety

We were his booster - and given he got 800k to stay imagine the 900k to move looks close

Goad was a 1st round pick so he's contracted for 3 years (2026)
Don't think it'll mean much if he asks for a trade. Most clubs know the player just asks for a trade the next season and get less back.

If Adelaide could get Goad and NWM the list would be very imposing.

Has there been any indication that Goad actually already wants home though?

You would think the Roos recruiting crew would have had his retention as number one priority when they did their interviews using a 1st round pick so soon after losing another SA player JHF to the "go home" effect.

I don’t think he’ll leave until he’s OOC (if he does at all), but Xerri being not that old and being one of the league’s top rucks would be a bit of a downer for Goad’s opportunities

Yeah, contracts are mostly meaningless now. Goad probably sees Xerri there and can't see a path forward to get a regular game.
