Giving votes based on how you play your role is an inherently flawed system to begin with.

Some players have lesser roles. The award is the best and fairest player, not who does their role best. Awarding votes based on role aligns much more with a best team player or coaches award.

It does however explain the Lachie Murphy results over the years.
