Norff will still have to be spending 95% of the cap and they can only of bribed the players they traded in this year. With our youth heavy list we should be able to afford a very big contract and with compromised drafts on the horizon it may just tip them to accepting band 1 compo rather than what is effective going to be a bunch of picks outside the top 20.Only trouble with LDU is that North is likely to match any offer we make even the $1.5M being bandied around
Maybe that is why we are interested in trading out our F1 basically doing a Geelong we can't trade what we don't have so you are better taking the Free Agency Compo that forcing a trade.
There at least seems to be some credibility to this now though I still think if North start to improve and if we stumble into 2025 we will be out of the picture. Some talk he doesn't want the limelight/burden that being the highest paid player at Collingwood or Carlton would bring might be less heat at the Saints though he is still going to be the highest paid player in the AFL so will carry it's own burden.
When you re rookie a player you also renegotiate the contract, I’d say he’s taken a haircut with triggers

Band 1 would be infinitely better for North than trading with us.Only trouble with LDU is that North is likely to match any offer we make even the $1.5M being bandied around

We have to make it extremely tempting for him.Kinda figured we'd be a very good chance of getting Brayshaw but that now looks less and less likely. LDU is the one that would make the most difference to our team, he's just the type of player we lack. Him, Steele, Macrawdaddy with Pou and the younger crew plus a couple of top ten picks and some injury luck would definitely speed up the process and see us contending sooner rather than later. Hopefully with Luke our fortunes will change in regard to landing the proverbial big fish. Really though for this coming season, I just hope we can have more players available for longer. Injuries haven't allowed us to see what we can really do with what we've got, fingers crossed we do a lot better next year and have most of the list available.
Yes. That contract will have specific financial specifications including match payment clauses. There is no chance he's taken anything less then what's owed on it and nor should he.I doubt it, even if we de-listed him we have to pay his contract. No reason in the world for him to accept a pay cut.

The other side of that coin is to hold an important player out of the team juse in case his knee gets worse. You'd expect that at that time they'd have taken the optimistic view.I dont want to sound too harsh, but what were the club thinking when they played Crouch earlier this year triggering another year of his contract? It was obvious his knee was shot at the start of the year, yet for some reason the club have dragged it on all year and it looks like it will go into next year. WTF
I thought we were trying to move away from being a superannuation facility for banged up players, if he cant run he cant play surely?

Player preferences aside, l agree with that 100%I keep changing my mind, but have landed on absolutely not wanting to trade up. Too many uncertainties with this year's crop.
However, I would trade down provided we get 1 of Smillie or Langford at 7. If we end up with Reid at 7, then keep 8 and get Allen.
If Smillie or Langford are secured at 7. Flip 8 for 15 & 16. Draft Trainor and best forward left.
Fixes all out holes in 1 off-season. Have to remember Pou and Wilson still developing also. Both will be gun on ballers in 2 years IMO.
Hindsight is wonderful. They would have expected Crouch to have played multiple matches.I dont want to sound too harsh, but what were the club thinking when they played Crouch earlier this year triggering another year of his contract? Its nothing to do with hindsight.Hindsight is wonderful. They would have expected Crouch to have played multiple matches.
North keep selling their home games. Probably just bought themselves 2 more loses next yearOnly trouble with LDU is that North is likely to match any offer we make even the $1.5M being bandied around

The issue he has is reportably that he keeps getting fluid on the knee after playing which is obviously an issue. No surgeon or doctor is going to make a decision on his playing career until he actually played on it tested it out over a period of time. Its nothing to do with hindsight.
The surgeon and club medical staff would have known the full extent of damage and condition of his knee after his arthroscopy in the preseason.

People are going on like he blew out all his ligaments in his knee. What he has is an issue that a lot of player manage successfully, unfortunately he was not able to last year and there's obvious concerns it will remain an issue hence the rookie list.
Yep, we were paying his $500k either way but at least now we open up another draft pick.
Somebody above said only half his salary would fall under the cap.now, I didn't think that was the case but if it was that would be a bonus, I'd probably be happy to pass that onto NWM to keep him happy with the SA clubs sniffing around.
I’d imagine as a trigger of his original free agent contract that the whole amount would need to be included in our cap regardless of if he’s playing or listed.
Should get a band 1 and have 7,8,9 [emoji2957][emoji2957]2 year offer just not possible for us
Hope he does well at the Pies under McRae
You're guessing he has no cartilage left in a knee he played multiple seasons on with no reported issue. You're not the only one who has a knee with issues and I can tell you with my own experience that cartilage damage absolutely can be managed so going on about how poorly the club has acted is just silly. He gets fluid on the knee because he has no cartlidge left, the surgeon would have told him and the club that. That happens to everyone when your the knee is chronic bone on bone it becomes aggravated with running and quite painful. It happened to me when I was about 40 and I also couldn't do any significant running after that, because yes it swelled as a result. Its s slippery slope because his next friend will be arthritis.
Harsh.GWS and Sydney mustn’t have actually seen him play.
