Noah Chamberlain
Toby Whan
Koby Coulson

All three are inside top 30

Koby Coulson

All three of them I have in my next five for various reasons.

I really like Chamberlain, and think he’ll have a period where he really bursts. His prototype always intrigues. Concern for me will be body shape if he is to play the wing/ Nick Blakey type role; also I have some footy IQ questions. But really like the baseline and wouldn’t be surprised if he jumps into my top 20-25 sooner rather than later.

Whan I also don’t mind. Hardest part for me is pegging his type of midfielder at the next level. Doesn’t have the burst you’d like, and whilst he is strong, WAFL colts isn’t the greatest league comparison. Reminds me a bit of the concerns around George Stevens in his draft year.

Coulson is the lowest guy of the three for me. Gets the footy no question. Love his intent and willingness to get dirty, but impact with ball in hand the big question.

This draft isn’t going to as many tiers as previous years. Think you can throw a blanket from probably 20 to 40. It’ll come down to what teams (and novices I guess) value.

I don’t think that was said as something he is hearing is happening.

That was more us having a chat about future ruck stocks and if we had to draft one do we need to be creative etc.

Combining that with us maybe needing to find more midfield minute spots for the guys coming through.

Definitely nothing in it as an inside mail type of thing.
I'll correct myself in that it was never a big chance only that Collingwood had asked the question. To say there was nothing in it is disingenuous on your part though.

Nah we need a ruck and we aren’t contending anytime soon. We should take CDT and a runner. I mean ideally I think we have 5 options.
Grlj
Greeves
Sharp
CDT
Duursma
History says you do not take a ruck early. There’s a couple of success stories taken early, but most rucks are taken later in drafts or are rookies. And there’s nothing to suggest a gun ruck is needed to win a flag.

And successful rucks can easily be acquired from other clubs cheap as chips : Nank, Cameron, Grundy, Witts, Meek…

At the risk of repeating myself, this is a putrid draft. Lindsay? Duuuuursmaaaa? Sharp? Fat Fred? These are our options? In the top 5???

How far down last year's draft list would you have to go before you take any of the above before the 2024 kid? Would you take any of them before Trainor? Before Armstrong? Before Sims?

Trade the **** out. Get Harley.

What about Grlj? Worth keeping one pick for him?

Harley not coming man.

Let's be honest we got kotd last year with the guys sliding. I'd take some of these guys before players taken before Trainor and Armstrong. How the **** did they last to the 20s 🤣🤣

Sharp > Bone Allan for an easy one to start. Same with the GWS blokes.

Here’s is my top 30 based on the futures, CTL, champs, academy and trial games I’ve seen. It’s pretty fluid after 12 imo.

Tier 1
1. Patterson (gc)
2. Duursma
3. Sharp
4. Greeves

Tier 2
5. Fred
6. Addisall (gc)
7. NHH
8. Annable (lions)

Tier 3
9. Grlj
10. CDT
11. Whan (Freo)
12. Lindsay

The rest.

13. M. Marsh
14. Burton
15. Schubert
16. Cumming
17. Ludowyke
18. C. Smith
19. C. Curtin
20. Mcgaune (pies)
21. LeRay
22. King (swans)
23. H. Barker
24. T. Murray

Fun exercise.

I wouldn’t take anyone ahead of Xavier Lindsay at the very least from last years draft.

If we take small Tim English with pick 2 the rebuild is cooked.

We trade with GC so they can get ahead of bids, and take a few extra picks in the lottery.

My top 10 excluding academy/father son tied

1. Duursma
2. Sharp
3. Grjl
4. Lindsay
5. Fred
6. CDT
7. Greeves
8. NHH
9. Burton
10. Cumming

Grjl Lindsay & Fred are my 3 preferred options in terms of who we draft that also tie in with our needs, but wouldn't be upset with either/both Duursma & Sharp if they were taken by us at 2 & 3.

Yeah I think we should be splitting at least one of these. The outside players seem better and don't want to use a top 5 pick on that type of player. Split and have 2 cracks at it.

Metro were a shambles yesterday. If they get there shit together we should see some better performances from the running guys like Grlj and Burton.

NHH could be a genuine star and match winner as a wing, high half forward. Such a clutch player. Our wings are complete dogshit I'm just not sure i want to use a top 4 on this role. 🤷‍♂️

CodeSports scouting notes SA v Vic Metro

Dyson Sharp

32 disposals, 11 inside-50s, 6 clearances, 10 score involvements, 2 goals

Clearly the best player on the ground, the South Australian captain led the way for his side with another huge game. A strong and powerful player, he did plenty of grunt work in tight and streamed forward to find teammates inside-50 on numerous occasions. He also spent some time forward himself, providing a target and getting on the end of two goals.

Aidan Schubert

14 disposals, 7 marks (5 contested), 9 hit-outs, 3 goals

There is no stopping this 198cm forward-ruckman when he fully extends his arms into the air to take a mark. The former basketball star took some huge contested grabs once again, including a big pack mark in the last quarter. He is an accurate kick on goal and is a competitor who works hard to stay in the game whether he is forward or rotating in the ruck. After four goals against the Allies the previous week, Schubert’s star is quickly rising.

Samuel Cumming

19 disposals, 3 clearances, 2 goals

A highly-rated 186cm midfielder-forward, the South Australian vice-captain spent time in midfield and forward roles. He used the footy well and made the most of his opportunities in front of goal, booting two majors in the second quarter. One of those came from a nice mark on the lead and a lovely set shot strike from 45m.

Matthew LeRay

17 disposals, 4 marks, 6 score involvements

A genuine wingman who is a good size at 189cm, LeRay can run all day and consistently plays his role perfectly. He got back to support his defence and generally used the ball well to find targets going inside-50.

Zane Peucker

12 disposals, 3 marks, 2 goals

A livewire in attack, Peucker bobbed up on a couple of occasions and took his opportunities like good small forwards do. The 180cm Woodville-West Torrens product cleverly worked his way through congestion to kick the first goal of the game and slotted another nice goal on the run in the third quarter.

Mitchell Marsh

7 disposals, 5 marks, 1 goal

After booting four goals against the Allies the previous week, this exciting 191cm marking forward didn’t quite get the same returns in his second match of the championships. But he again showed great hands overhead and an exceptional ability to read the flight of the ball coming forward and position himself to take marks. He kicked a goal in the second quarter on the back of a big contested grab on the edge of the goalsquare, but it would be Marsh’s only major of the day as he recorded three behinds from his other opportunities.

Sam Ainsworth

12 disposals, 14 hit-outs, 3 marks

A 198cm ruckman from Norwood, Ainsworth was the main man in the ruck for South Australia and performed well against opponents including potential No. 1 pick Cooper Duff-Tytler. He was strong and physical, got involved in the play around the ground and won a couple of clearances of his own in addition to tapping the ball down to give his teammates first use.

VIC METRO

Oliver Greeves

27 disposals, 5 clearances, 1 goal

Clearly Vic Metro’s best player on a tough day, Greeves cracked in hard playing mostly onball. He won 14 contested possessions – more than any other player on the ground – while also showing some good clearance work and nice evasive skills to break into space from congestion. Greeves’s goal came over the back of the play in the opening quarter, while he hit the post from a free kick during the third term.

Cooper Duff-Tytler

18 disposals, 21 hit-outs, 4 marks

It wasn’t quite Duff-Tytler’s day, but he showed character to battle on leading the ruck duties for Vic Metro. He won more than his share of hit-outs, provided some good tackling pressure when the ball hit the ground and got involved in the play around the ground. However, there were a few usually bad kicks going forward – not that he was alone with those in the conditions.

Xavier Taylor

14 disposals, 4 marks

A 191cm defender from the Eastern Ranges, Taylor was one of Vic Metro’s better backman on a tough day. He was composed under pressure and showed some desperate – and potentially goal-saving – defensive actions, while also providing some rebound from the back half.

Kye Fincher

27 disposals, 5 marks

A St Kilda Next Generation Academy player, Fincher was particularly prolific early with 11 disposals in the first quarter alone. Playing mostly off halfback, he slowed down a little after that though and there were a few miss-guided kicks on a difficult day.

Aaron Sharkie

19 disposals, 4 marks, 2 clearances

Playing primarily onball, Sharkie was solid. The 184cm Oakleigh Chargers product found space and used the football more cleanly than most, going at disposal efficiency of 94.7 per cent for the day.

Thomas McGuane

15 disposals, 2 clearances, 4 score involvements

A Collingwood father-son prospect this year, McGuane had a quiet first half playing across half-forward. However, the natural midfielder was thrown onball at stages in the second half and got himself more involved, with 11 of his touches coming after the main break. He was clean in tight and won a couple of clearances.

You like Oliver, reckon I can find at 3-4 posts you suggesting we could get him back from gws in a few years??

Think you’re a bit unfair on Hannaford too.

Though I would take Sharp and Duursma over them all. Reckon they sit in that Travaglia/Lindsay group from last year. Duursma athleticism probably has him go at 8.

Yeah I like Oliver and Oliver but I wouldn't be taking them at 3 or 4 in this draft. I couldn't remember the draft order and some of the guys I liked came to mind. Trainor and Armstrong should have gone top 10 though and would go top 5 this year.

NHH is the only player in this draft I really want. Exactly what we need. Maybe Burton too.

I reckon you use what you have for what you need. A top 4 pick in this draft is not the same as a top 4 pick in a good draft.

We've previously used pick 9 on a half-back-flanker and pick 15 on a small forward and that worked out pretty well.

Surely the club sees this draft is crap.
Of course they do, they're not Morro s - I mean, idiots - I mean, Morros.

Blair got the extra first so we could pay for Harley. That was Plan A.
