North Melbourne has the prized first selection on night two and has had a keen interest in Sturt key defender Blake Thredgold, who was in contention to be taken by Geelong, Fremantle and Hawthorn later in the first round.

Eastern Ranges inside bull Ollie Greeves, Dandenong Stingrays forward Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves, Sandringham Dragons key forward Archie Ludowyke, Woodville-West Torrens midfielder Jevan Phillipou, the brother of emerging Saint Mattaes, and Oakleigh Chargers ruck-forward Louis Emmett shape as value selections for clubs on night two.

Doubt it ever happened much (or at all), but with the increased rate of declined matches, there won't be any clubs bidding on a player unless they're fully prepared to take them. With the stricter matching rules clubs are going to have definite limits on where they'd match, it can no longer be assumed.

TBH, I don't care if they bid or not. I'm completely agnostic on him and won't mind if we match or don't. And if we do match, I don't think picking in the 30s vs the 40s will make much difference in the likelihood of us getting a bloke who kicks on.
History has shown that very good key position players can be found at these levels, even later in the draft or as rookies.
So, I wouldn't completely right off any pick.

Why when they look Whitlock with there Trade last years Draft
Yes, that's what I mean. They have shown they aren't exactly the best club in building a list, so could do something that makes no sense for them and pick him. Obviously, I hope not, but can't completely discount them.

Bid on McCarthy someone else?

Greeves does look the type the Hawks Love
I don't think the Hawks will bid on him. They also have Ramsden, who looks similar player. They did just pick up Shubert as well.

Hetherton, Ludowyke, Thredgold are also available, but I wouldn't be surprised if they took the one and Onley.

You would too, if you'd just been selected by Richmond. Can't imagine the look if it had been Carlton, though.

Christ what is with the Onley obsession.
As a club with a slowish midfield and with a lack of size (ex Long) his 195cm frame with a decent burst of speed from stoppage appeals.
Kid ran a sub 2.9 sec 20m sprint and averaged 23 disposals at the Carnival, finisehd top 6 in the Larke Medal count and won an AA jersey.
That size and speed is competitive at AFL level.

I was really impressed with his run off half back for Vic Country last season too as an underager.
Was an Academy player for a reason.

Well it started with reports that Collingwood have done a fair bit of work on him.

Upon research his traits of burst from stoppages and strength is very appealing as it addresses a massive weakness of ours.

We had huge problems dealing with bigger sized mids and mids who were able to burst away from stoppages, he is one potential solution to address that problem.

Hoping for tonight 🤞

1. McCarthy
2. Mid with speed and run
3. Mcguane with last pick
Hoping for tonight
1. Best available
2. Burst/power ideally mid/wing (Onley? Holmes?)
3. McCarthy

Tommy as a rookie.
