Our 2nd round pick is about to be up in the official Big Footy Mock.

Who would you take if it fell this way?

NHH could be there. The Greek Freak maybe? Jai Murray bid?
Bid on Murray

if matched LeRay

Victorian Sam Allen was the third prospect to move into the top 50, doing so despite spending most of the year on the sidelines with an ACL injury.

Touted as an "athletic freak", a selection for the Oakleigh Chargers midfielder is expected despite his long layoff.

"He's an athletic freak," Ralphsmith said.

"He played on the wing for Oakleigh last year, with Pat Retschko on the other wing.

"He was quite highly rated and unfortunately did his ACL this year. So we only got to see him for about a month.

"It's not only the endurance (that he boasts), it's also the speed, agility and he's got a really good vertical leap.

"If there's a reason he's not a little bit higher, it's probably the fact that we haven't got the exposed form of what he's able to do as an inside midfield, which is a real shame because that's what Oakleigh wanted to showcase this year.

"Regardless, with the athletic numbers he's been putting up, it's hard to see him getting overlook, despite the injury that has held him back."

Retschko former teammate, Oakleigh Chargers connection. Coming off an ACL. Sounds like our typical M.O haha

From memory it was similar timing to Hotton injury so he could play some time next season.
Played school footy up until 24 May.

He's captain of Scotch, so we would have seen a bit of him with Armstrong in the side.

Have seen a bit of Sam play at Oakleigh in 2024.
Yes he’s athletic traits are elite. Was a schoolboy 800m and high jump and won state titles in both I’m pretty sure.
I never blown away by his football abilities. Certainly a good player but probably a guy who gets rated more on his athletic traits than his football.
Really good kid.

Disposal by foot?

Obviously at pick 38 in what is a really weak draft every player in this range is going to have some serious deficiencies. To quote Sonny from Draft Day it’s about finding out what that something is and can we live with it.
I think with Sam his athleticism is so good we could invest in his football development for a 3 years and potentially get a more than handy winger

We had 2 wingers during those dynasty days that certainly had diffiencies.

Skills are okay, nothing great.
In that Oakleigh team Pat Retschko ran the other wing and he was a far better player.
We definitely need outside speed, but probably just as importantly , you want players that can hit a target.
I suppose that late a pick in a weak draft there’s going to be some negatives.
Decision making can always be improved, but poor kicking skills usually stay with a player.

Doesn't Ralph-Smith already run like the clappers and not hit a target; why does Richmond need another one?
the Ralphsmith comparison is a good one.later pick, based on athleticism rather than natural football ability.
I don’t mind rolling the dice with one or two of these types , but if footskills are substandard it’s a longggg journey getting them to AFL level.
