HBF's used to be role players years ago, now they form the nucleus of attacking transition plays from the back half.

Rioli, Noble, Amon, D'Ambrosio, Wilmot, Zorko, NWM, Houston, just to name some off the top of my scone. Pick 4 could well be pick 8 on draft night which places it in the realm of a needs based pick. Those sorts of players mentioned are what we're lacking (amongst others)
Literally one of those players would be in the top 100 players in the comp. Thanks for proving my point.

I don't know if I'm trying to convince myself at this point, but I just don't see us taking Taylor. Our backline (yes, while you can never have enough good players and depth) is the least of our problems.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Blair say, post-trade period, that we went tall in last year's draft and will now look to bring some run and kicking into the side?

My heart and head are both saying that we'll go Robey, and then one of Cumming/Grjl.

We’re using pick 3 or 4 to draft a Nathan Broad (pick 67) replacement.

If we don’t pick X Taylor with pick 3 or 4 he probably slides to our pick 38.
we wont take him imo

Not much mail on my end regarding the draft this year. Club is playing it closer to their chest.

What I have heard:

Club is super keen on Robey and CDT. Whoever is leftover after West Coast is who Richmond will pick at 3, unless Essendon offer us a deal we can't refuse to take them.

Club still torn between Grlj, Taylor and Cumming for the second pick if we don't trade and have not settled on the preference. Hearing that Cumming is the less likely of the 3. Club rate Taylor as being potentially elite, but also see him as less of a needs based pick depth wise than what Grlj does, esepecially with Yze now wanting to focus on quick ball movement.

Essendon really keen on Sharp if they can't get CDT/Robey. Bombers nuffie and also has leadership qualities that the club wants to back in, similar to us with Cotchin. They see him as potentially a cultural builder, future captain and will help when Merrett leaves/retires. Bombers could also be tempted by pairing Sharp with Cumming to help ease the go home factor. Xavier Taylor is a potential pick for them as well with Redman and Ridley aging and not being able to stay on the park.

Hawks and Dees very high on Jacob Farrow. Reckon Dees take the slider of Taylor or Cumming as well.

Keep an eye out for Leon Kickett or Louis Emmett with our pick in the 30's as well.
How many of the open pool players in this draft are being rated as ‘potentially elite’?

I have flip-flopped on Cumming, Taylor and Sharp almost every time I given it any thought. However, short of a Godfather offer from Essendon, or better still WC taking Sharp (as many WC supporters would like) and both Robey and CDT sliding to us, I’d now be amazed if it isn’t Robey and Taylor.

Second year of a full rebuild, a player you consider ‘potentially elite’ is precisely the kind of player you should be selecting at pick 4.

we wont take him imo
Put your house on us taking him or the other half back flanker with one of our picks.

Using premium picks to draft role players across the half back. Crazy. We literally had McCarthy running round in our VFL side this year.

That hint the other day from a poster saying our wish list looks a hell of a lot different to what the general consensus is has me thinking Jevan is right up there. I urge you to watch his youtube highlights and tell me what would be an issue with taking him early ?

Negative. He was a pre-season draft selection.

Essendon and Dees would only trade up if one of CDT or Robey are still on the board at our second pick. Otherwise it would mean one of Sharp, Cumming and Taylor would be available at their picks and they would be happy with any.
I can't see us parting with Robey unless 2 early firsts are on the board. And I don't think that will happen.

I reckon the first 3 are locked in at Duursma CDT and Robey.

Just a question of whether it's Grlj or Taylor at pick 4, with Sharp and Cumming the outside chances.

I 100% agree. No way we pass on Robey of he is there, but IF West Coast take Duursma and Sharp, they both will come hard for one of our picks to take either Robey or CDT. I doubt we trade unless we get another first back.

XT isn’t a tall. Hes more like Vlas in that he can pinch hit on a tall in a mismatch situation. He’s a very good interceptor and he loves to run with the ball kind of like Banks, he’ll just mark and go, sometimes run himself into trouble but usually (at least at CTL level) has the agility, power and speed to get himself out of that trouble. He isn’t anywhere near the kick Banks is but he can lockdown smalls and medium forwards while still being aggressive in attack and overlap run.

He’s not my first preference for us, but he’s very very good and his development curve over the season has been impressive, probably equal with Sharp and Robey for how much better they’ve got over the season.
