This is why I’m hoping my chat with Rhy post draft we can ask all those specific types of questions.

Unfortunately they are always going to be guarded with controlled questions pre draft which is understandable.

But I encourage everyone to load up on post draft questions so we can dig a bit deeper!
I understand the argument about taking the best player - you want as much elite talent you can get and you find a way to make it work. But I’d love to know where the line for always taking the best available player starts and stops.

As a hypothetical, would Freo take CDT (if he was unanimously the best player in the draft) when they already have Jackson and Darcy?

We have a glaring hole on our list in the midfield and particularly players with outside run. If you’re splitting hairs between players, you surely go with the one that suits your list profile more?

Rhy Gieschen in a recent interview said Richmond will be picking best available talent with picks 3 and 4 while drafting for list needs with their later picks. So I think that rules out Richmond drafting Sam Grlj that early.

Why? He might be rated as the 2nd or 3rd best player according to our recruitment team. Don't worry about casual draft watchers and what they say, our recruiting team have been tracking these kids for the last 3 years.
Dylan alexander who is quite a well regarded draft analyst had no idea about next years draft crop when asked by Michaels.
Trust in our recruiting team and trust in the process.

Rumour has it that Dons looking to bundle up picks 5, Carlton’s pick 9 and a future second to get CDT and a future something back apparently. Not sure if it’s for west coasts pick 2 or Richmond pick 3.
The only way it would be for our pick 3 is if West Coast want Sharp and our bullshit campaign pretending we would touch him with a barge pole spooks them into taking him at 2. Then we could trade 3 and FF2 to Essington, they take CDT, and we collect Robey, Taylor/Cumming, and Phillipou.

I feel bad doing this to you mate but...

get out gtfo GIF by Channel Frederator
No you don’t 🙄

possible.

CFC might have been waiting it out but no surprises some clubs coming for those picks 9 and 11 for different reasons but essentially chasing certain players up the draft

So what does Carlton get for giving up pick 9?

How does he even justify StKilda getting back into the draft? They don't have a pick until 50 this year and have traded their future 2nd, surely he hasn't traded their future first for it?

Edit - I went and answered it myself. He did a 3 way trade, which isn't actually possible on draft night, it can only be done during the trade period. He gave up Saints 2027 2nd rounder plus 2 x 3rd rounders. Tell him he's dreaming.

The main one I'd like to know is how they weight/evaluate late U18 form (i.e. Robey) compared to a player who's been known as a top talent in the system for a couple of years. I suspect that they knew about Robey long before he got attention here, but it would be interesting to know how CTL finals performance compares to U18 champs when it comes to evaluation.

I think it's fair to say the the trades Twomey is suggesting "could" happen, are actually happening and the only reason he isn't reporting it that way is because of the trade lock out.

All we need to know now is do the bummers know we won't take Robey and XT and that's why they staged that photo op.

There's probably just as much they won't say post draft either though, as those kids are now on a list and we're not going to say too much about another club's players.
Yeah I remember at a post draft function we implied we were going to take Koby Stevens but thought he wasn't fit enough and within 48 hours it was on the back page of the HUN.

Well then we need to have Robey come to Punt Road for another interview and make sure Twomey is alerted to that
Richmond closing in on Robey

Hes already been. You just couldn't see him as he toured the hole in the ground.

Nah I think taking sharp and Cumming or Sharp and Robey or Robey and Cumming wouldn’t be what we will do.

I think we replace with XT we lost two defenders this year? Broad leaves soon.

There is also next year for a mid which one happens to be NGA.

Arki Butler or Archie Van Dyke would be pretty high on Richmond’s list knowing they can’t get Cody or Dougie.

I wonder if Carlton only do the trade with Essendon if Dean actually gets bid on at the West Coast pick.
If they do the trade before the draft starts on draft night, it just means no one will bid on him.
That's where Essendon messed up last year. They did the trade early and the bid on Kako came at 13 (courtesy of us) instead of top 10 which is largely where the bid was tipped to land.

See I can make crap up too 🤣
Except mine was based on actual contracts we've signed. Yours was based on pretending they don't exist.

How are KMac2 and Sharp both going to develop into gun mids by 2029 if we're commited to playing Hopper there until the end of 2029? He'll be incredibly hard to trade away (inside-mids generally not being worth much outside the draft). Do you think we'll drop him into the VFL with years more on his contract so we can develop his replacements? Play him in another position (he doesn't have one)?

I suspect the guys in the club realise this. Everyone before the draft said Smilie was a super long-term project, and that Lalor and Hotton can play elsewhere. Then we drafted 2 kpfs, a second mid and a intercepting defender. I think we'll continue preferring players who won't desepately need to play in the centre early on in their career. So no Sharp.

Skills & composure , Noah looks verys good. Tanner Armstrong also 7 clearances & didn't attend a centre bounce in the first half. I think he finished in the best players list as well.
Yeah he's why I'm not too concerned about finishing our midfield mix this draft, there will be guys emerging once they get more midtime

Butler has a bit of the Butters about him and everybody loves some Archie Van Dyke
