That’s unnecessary. He genuinely loves the club. There’s no need to get nasty.

That’s true but if he plays the man he has to be prepared to cope some LOTW feedback. I personally have no interest in his work but recognise he does do a lot of good for the club

Agreed about releasing the ball to advantage. That's probably Sharp's best playing attribute from what I've seen.

However, I do have a couple of questions about him:

1. Yes he kicked goals in the carnival as a mid, but is that really his strong second position? If not, does he have a second position?
2. How will he play against men at AFL level? His output at SANFL level seems noticeably lower than the U18s carnival, so does he struggle dealing with bigger bodies?

If he struggles with bigger bodies right now, then he may have a relatively rough transition IMO. It'd be easy for bigger mids to expose his lack of pace and render him ineffective during his early years.

Sharp's most attractive asset to me is his potential in onfield leadership. He seems like the type to lift the entire side in big games, and you always need a strong leader in your side if you want a premiership. That alone would make him a worthy selection. That's probably the one thing we lack in our youth (aside from Lalor)

It’s been well documented that at SANFL senior level he’s being played as a high HF and they’ve deliberately aided him on working on his outside game.

That’s why his numbers drop off at SANFL level.

As far as I’m concerned that’s almost 6 months of VFL equivalent development he’s had under his belt before for being drafted.

He could’ve been the big fish in the small pond and bullied the U18 SANFL kids but he’s actively worked on his areas of improvement at a higher level.
He also could’ve stayed in his comfort zone and played in the guts in the seniors but has played the long game with working on his weaknesses.

For context he had two games with the afl academy against vfl opposition.
He had an underwhelming game against Richmond and a BOG performance against Coburg playing in his natural role in the centre.

Been the best junior in this class for the last 2 years, yet you don’t rate him? Entitled to your opinion of course but I’d take him. Keeps improving and was dominant in the champs.

Yes he’s been the best midfielder in the juniors over 2 years but it’s a piss poor draft for mids and I’m seeing no special attributes that indicate he’ll be a gun in the AFL. I’d rather Greeves than Sharp. Runner up in the Larke but is a much better mark than Sharp when playing forward. Huge slider. I think Cummings was far better than Sharp when playing SAFL and at least has some pace.

As you said “we are entitled to our opinions” so I’m okay with yours.

Personally, I think this could be the year you look outside of midfielders. Types like XT , Robey and CDT (if available) appeal more. I know we need midfielders but quality not average. If we were to trade back I’d consider Greeves as he’s very similar to Sharp but will cost way less.

Still hoping that Cumming is one of our picks, pairing him with Grlj or Robey would be ideal, I just don’t see the need for Taylor at those picks.

Either way we will still snare 2 highly talented kids that will play a lot of games for us and I’ll back Blair and Rhy to pick the players we need the most.
