I imagine Goldcoast will trade Flanders to get the sufficient points to go close to landing their four Academy players (Uwland,Patterson, Coulson & Addinsal).

I am very curious as to whether the Suns will match bids for all 4 players tbh.

You read their profiles, and they're all very similar in build and description. There's not really that much that sets them apart other than one or two characteristics (ie. Uwland the best ball user out of the four, Patterson the most explosive, etc...).

When you take into account Rogers and Lombard as very similar players, I would be staggered if the Suns match bids on all 4 of them on draft night, especially if Uwland and Patterson are bidded on very early.

Nice summary.

I only ask because I think we need to draft a pure mid with one of our picks. A Grlj/Greeves/whoever who we draft for the purpose of being a 100% mid.

The bonus is next year we will either get Armstrong or Walker/Van Dyke, depending on bid rules, who are all better than this years versions of that.

I certainly don't envy our recruiters as we head into the draft this year. With no clear standouts after Duursma at pick 1 our guys are going to really make or break their careers with who they choose at our picks. Like us supporters it'd be hard not to get caught up in the hype surrounding a kid like Robey who suddenly bursts on to the scene as a possible top 10, maybe even top 5 kid depending on how he finishes the CTL finals, while other kids we may have liked seem to either falter or succumb to injury as the end of the year approaches and don't get that chance to put a ! on their draft year that stamps them as a definite top 5 pick we can't overlook.

In a situation like this, I think the priority should be to maximise our draft hand, and give us as many bites at the cherry as we can. That doesn't necessarily mean we trade both picks, but keeping one and using the other to get two more picks at 6-15 wouldn't be the worst idea. Maximising player value in trade scenarios also would need to be considered.

Draper potentially looking like Band 2 compensation for Essendon.

Have heard it would be band 1 but AFL got sick of Twomey crapping on about FS changes

Am I the only one who thinks that CDT is a complete spud. I just don’t see what anyone else is seeing with this kid.
How he’s talked about as a number one draft pick is beyond me. I can say the same about that Dursma kid as well.
I definitely don’t see the big deal with him

Marks like Sampson Ryan & christ knows what they saw in his marking ability.

You had me in the first half. Duursma's a gun

Just looking for a bit of clarification on our current list numbers after the delistings of Kosi, Bauer, Colina and Blight along with Macca.

From what I can see we are down to 34 on the primary list, 4 on the Cat A rookie list and 2 on the Cat B rookie list.

If I'm correct, does that mean that we can upgrade Campbell to the primary list, opening up a rookie spot as well as drafting picks 2 & 3 along with Kellaway for a later throwaway pick? I guess that a Cat B spot is open too.

If we want to add a player like Rosas then do we have to delist another primary list player?

In long run I think he’s a faster bigger version of Lalor (not saying as good, just archetype). Cherki Yeo comp is pretty spot on, except as Cherki said Robey‘s a forward.

But as a full time mid he has the agility to step his way through a pack and come out the otherside.

He has incredible balance, and rarely loses his feet, highlighted but just how often he roves his own marking pack and breaking away (if anyone’s bored watch the last play vs oakleigh mid year, chargers are storming back and Ranges have kick out. They kick long to Robey, who brings ball to ground, wins it on ground and gets the handball off to running player while two chargers hang off him letting eastern run out the last 15 seconds or so).

His hand below is knees are exceptionally clean

He has the strength and power to stand up in tackles and composure to look for a good target by hand in those situations.

He has the burst to get separation and get back to the ball if it clears that first circle of players into open space (where TT, hopper and Prestia get killed when it gets out behind them).

And finally as shown by last 2 games, the ball kind of just naturally finds him in the flow of a game, even in earlier games playing half forward he still got mid teens numbers and 2 goals a game without breaking a sweat.

The questions I’m not sure on if he could be full time mid. How good is his endurance, he seems to get over the ground fine but I don’t have a definitive answer on that.

My other nagging questions are, what is his character like? You don’t hear the tidbits you got about Sharp/grlj/cdt etc. Who’ve been in system the whole time.

If he is diligent hard worker the sky’s the limit. The crowning celebration was a touch arrogant but I’m also a judgemental old man. He’s teammates seem to like him though.

The other question is how good is his decision making vs how much is it that this is just a really ****en well drilled excellent eastern team that share the ball like crazy (except Dovaston). They run in waves, always have outlet options and easy hit ups. They get so many players in that 15-25 touches range every week, it’s really easy to rack up possessions in that team and simplifies decision making.

Why I think it’s easy for me to say I’d take him at 3/4 (apart from it’s not my job on the line but I’d like to think that wouldn’t sway me in this case), is Twomey has X Taylor at 5 in open pool, and it’s obvious from watching 5-6 games with them together that Robey is the better player, probably a better overall athlete and better prospect, plus is 10 months younger

You can have a maximum of 44 players on your list and it needs to be as follows 36-38 senior list, 4-6 rookies & maximum of 2 Cat B rookies

Currently we're sitting at 34 - 4 - 1.

Upgrading Campbell takes us to 35 - 3 - 1, leaving 3 spots to fill to get us to a maximum of 38 senior listed.

If that happens and we added picks 2 & 3, plus Kellaway to the senior list, we could add either 2 Cat A rookies or 1 Cat A and 1 Cat B.

Delisting/trading out any of Dow Smith Sonsie or Young would give us more flexibility in what we do during the drafts, National & Rookie, plus the SSP & MSD

Thanks for that.

So there's a couple of paths still open for list flexibility, we could delist 1 or 2 of Sonsie, Smith & Dow and then take them as rookies opening up a spot for Rosas.

If Young leaves then along with the above, we could have openings for another 2 trade ins over and above Rosas?

You are ignoring base rate probabilities. The odds of getting more talented player are much higher with top 5 picks. Statistically if a club takes two top 5 picks they are a 40% chance to play in a grand final with that list and win in the next 5 years.
I’m not suggesting we don’t keep our 2 x top-5 picks. I’m just saying we will pick who we believe are the best players at those picks. I just hope we pick Robey IF we believe he’s one of them, and don’t bypass him just because we are scared of looking foolish if he doesn’t work out.

I'd suggest that the clubs decision not to sign those 4 players is giving us the chance to see what unfolds during the trade period as well as the draft combine so we can then make more concrete plans about 2026.

At some point would t those kids think their prospects of playing senior footy would be better elsewhere , not easy to break into that midfield and it ain’t old either

No one in this draft has first round talent ... so I suppose CDT and Dursma are seen to have the athletic tools to develop more than others but yes ... they could all turn out to be spuds

Personally I think the media and social media pages like Baseline have gravitated towards these guys early (late 2024) and have doubled down on the duo for picks 1 & 2 and the narrative has been consistent all season.
I tend to agree that the early hype has snowballed it out of proportion to what is reality.

Duursma will play his 150-200 games (barring injury) but I can't see him reaching the heights of the champions of the game that a number 1 pick is judged on.

CDT you'd think he's the next coming of Nicnat with how he's been spoken about.
Will likely end up like Tim English or Josh Fraser type but i certainly wouldn't want to use a top 5 pick on him

This is utter rubbish. You think no one in this draft has 1st round talent?

Where do you think Zeke and CDT would have gone in last year's draft?

I wonder if Robey has done enough in so few games to be considered top 5.
Years ago I went to a pre draft night at punt rd ( think it was FJs last year as boss) and the players we were considering had been tracked for years and the data and information on anyone available was staggering.
I asked the question do we draft best available talent or needs …. Blair actually interjected to answer ‘ best available always … you trade for needs.’ They were very very high on integrity and how the boys interviewed and if the family of them were quality people.
As an aside for those who’ve watched more than a few clips like I have , is Robey as one sided as I think he appears to be?
He doesn’t seem to have a left peg …
