Taranto and Hooper are contested players but rarely win clearances, and they are also not able to burst away from a contest. Grlj has the speed and can break away from a contest. His clearance numbers are also good.
Seen him play, he aint scared, he goes in.

Just as a side, Nick Daicos started his career at half back and then moved into the midfield, but he isn't a contested beast or a big contested type player, but he has key mid attributes, his clearance numbers are good, he's evasive around the contest, and can scoot away from a pack.

This is what we need. If we do recruit Grjl he is likely to start at half back but geez, he's got all the tools to be a very good mid.

I look at it like this, what does CDT do well? He's not strong overhead and he's a mid-tier ruckman. He's really an oversized transition midfielder. Do you take a 200cm transition mid over 2 elite genuine mids?
Right now CDT from a forward/ruck perspective is all potential. So he's a pretty risky prospect imo.
Not sure you **** around with top 5 picks.

Especially if we could possibly do a trade with Essendon if we're certain they'd take CDT at 3, if they had it.. 4 for 5 and 19 (Draper compo). Get another mid plus Emmett if we want a ruck (I'm not convinced with Emmett either FWIW), so just take an extra medium sized player. There'll be a decent one available at 19.

Yeah, totally agree with this. If it transpires we don't want CDT, then we'd be mad not to wave Pick #3 in Essendon's face for their pick #5 and something else very good.

If they don't bite at that, we take who we want at #3, and then wave #4 in their face, for #5 and something else very good.

If they don't bit at that, you can bet someone else will.

We could really test their desire for the lad.

I got the vertical jump from the SA U18 Combine this year .... my bot found the time of 2.891s ... could be wrong ... I didn't doubt it as it passed the eye test ... the lad is explosive

State summer squad members Harley Barker and Luke Candy dominated last week's SANFL Under 18s preseason testing event.

That’s the SA testing if you (or anyone) are interested. Harley Barker dominated but yes Cumming is still a fantastic athlete.

Don’t think the vics release their preseason data publicly but Grlj is an absolute jet, will test very well for speed at the Combine and Jack Dalton will smash everyone in the 2km time trial.
