Would be interested to hear how North managed to ensure that a former No 1 pick slid all the way to 37.

Don't players taken in the draft have to sign a minimum 2 year contract? Surely that would make it worth the punt to recruit her and use those two years to try to convince her to stay.

She wasn't a typical #1, it was the last state base draft and all the best players were tied up already. So there's that for a start - probably ranked somewhere 8th to 10th that year overall.

Secondly no club wants to invest time trying to convince a player to stay on by selecting them without their buy in (new draftees excepted) especially when said player has already been noted as wanting to go elsewhere and refusing medicals or meetings with any other club pre draft. No different to someone in AFL putting a salary on their head and being picked up in the pre season draft by their nominated club tbh.

Lastly she has actually been pretty ordinary last year and not been picked this year at all. Whether it's something internally for her to not be picked or something happening at the club to cause her not to play who knows - so it's an unknown. North probably the only club that can afford to stick her on a list and wait 2 years for her to develop...they've done with with Bogue (waited 1 year before she got a game this year).
