Value wise 100%. How much can we trust Cerra though?
Hes got a nice run to start the year too, went 97 in 2023.
Cant just not pick him because hes an injury risk imo, as long as your team as a whole isnt full of injury prone guys youll be fine. I look through my side for example and Cerra is the only one id consider an injury risk
With JHF and Rankine we can at least fall back on the fact they’re both likely keepers.
I dont think being a keeper matters even the slightest lol, we will have 8-10 rounds of sideways trading guys to end the year to get the keepers in.
That idea of wanting to start keepers is a relic of a time when we had sub 30 trades for the year

That’s the issue though. The team currently has Day, Callaghan and Ash. Hence why a “safer” pick at that spot was on my radar, as I’ll be needing trades to potentially move them on early.

Having Cerra types goes against that strategy a bit as it heightens the risk that you miss the timing.

Agreed that keepers aren’t especially relevant this early, but more from the point of view that they could be left on the back burner whilst the focus is on the players above.

I dont see why Callaghan or Day are in line to be moved on early? They seem like 90+ guys who will be #1 or #2 in their respective midfields. Could hold them to the byes while fixing up rookies and actually failed mid pricers

Cerra brings some risk but his upside is so much higher than the rest of the 700k guys(except Oliver) that hes still imo a better pick than Callaghan or Day if you were worried about it

What game, or worse, the minute mark the hammy?

2 days out from the season and i am still making mass changes to my team and completely experimenting with different structures. Not sure i have ever been this undecided about my team this close to a season starting.
Same. There is so much value in the forward and midfield lines that I am having trouble fitting them all in. So many coin flips.

Yeah for sure, best case scenario they stay but just contingency planning. If Cerra pings a hammy the same week Green returns and Callaghan starts hitting 80s for instance then shit really hits the fan.

Cerra would be your only urgent move in this case. Still unlikely to happen that early in the year

I have 3 spots to fill with a range of players in interested in at different prices:
Players listed in rough order of preference for me in each position

Budget 1.55 million

Defender x 1 (on field)
Perryman (759k)
Freijah (627k)
De Koning (564k)

Forward x 1 (on field)
Sanders (656k)
Garcia (421k)

Utility (could also fill the forward spot, including option of Davidson coming off the bench to F6)
Wicks (393k)
any other rookie that fits budget thats not davidson, stone, campo, boxshall, ashcroft, reid, boyd)

I cant fit Perryman and sanders so in a way thats the starting point. maye leaves me with
  • perryman + garcia + 370k rookie
  • sanders + freija + 267k
  • sanders + SDK + 330k
  • Freija + Wicks + Garcia

Perryman + Garcia and then whoever you want as utility, Wicks is fine if theres nobody you prefer.

Imo Garcia has more upside than Sanders anyway. Garcia I think can go 70-75, and Sanders is maybe an 85 guy with a good role which he may not have for that long with Treloar sounding like hes not that far away

THats ehat ive landed on at the moment (btut 20k short of wicks as the 3rd wheel unfortuantely a hed be a good one for the guaranteed cash.

THeres just some FOMO with sanders but i tend to agree with you - handball happy to cap his scoring. And ive got a risky backline so some safety in perryman as a known quantity over Freijah who if he sucks could leave me in all sorts is prob a smart move given theres more flexiblity to cover/adjust up front.

That also leaves me with 370k so can get a genuine pick of the rest when it comes to last rookie, not just whoever is available at basement

Can he score though?

74 with 3 frees for.. bit mediocre even though he’s cheap
double price rise and a chance to watch the alternatives makes it tempting. if can make it fit salary cap, but it is also a decent spend that makes it hard for me to fit him without compromising on another pick.

also the benefit that if he was staying on the bench he will get dpp rd 6 and add some depth to a weak backline, but your robably not planning to keep him that long anyway or if so not much longer (hed have to be iehter a smash pick and on field which isnt going to happen, or a dud who you have better options to cash in on which case its a bad pick)

All the rookies will get named in the next couple of days, there will be one that pops up. Camporeale seems like a decent one if he gets thast wing role. Its not like hes covering for an injury in that role, Hollands who had it before has gone down back.
