Paw through this over the summer mate.
Imagine lying about your hopes of retaining your best asset when your main sources of income are based from sponsorship & memberships that require fans to sign up to - which occurs post the actual decision.

They gain ZERO today from lying. They don’t gain 10,000 additional memberships today by saying they are confident Nas will stay.

Where did this 600k with triggers for Aleer come from?
Sen this morning.

Watson and Edmund were kinda arguing about what they heard and Watson said well no that’s not what I’ve been hearing. It’s 600k with triggers to take it up to 700k.

The other bit of context was that Garry and Tim had a segment on Ross’s stuff from last night and Tim said he had a phone call from someone at the club yesterday post his show in the morning with Sen and they made it crystal clear to him that he was wrong on the Harley story - to which Tim acknowledged on air.

Loving how Leek Aleer is now down to:

600k with triggers that MAY get him to 700k

I reckon the club told Tim what the actual contract looks like. Makes the most sense

Maybe the forward line would work better if players like Windy could hit up a target more regularly?

Excuses go both ways.

And to be fair Ross is always talking about the coaching group doing a better job.
This is an extension of what you are talking about.

It's pretty clear we are operating with a makeshift forward line at the moment.

The coaching staff have been pretty keen not to just gift games into players that aren't a part of its future.

Players that haven't played forward line (or barely any) for us in 2025 that I would expect are a good chance to in 2026:
  • Max King
  • Rowan Marshall
  • Alix Tauru
  • Anthony Caminiti
  • Tom De Koning
Adding two or even three of these players to our forward line greatly improves its height and ability to contest in the air. It also means smaller marking players such as Cooper Sharman, Mitch Owens...and even Mattaes Phillipou when resting forward as going to even harder to man up on in the air.

This is quite exciting for me, if it pans out.

Obviously, we need King to be fit, there is questions over Marshall's future etc etc, but it's looking positive for me at the moment.

I don’t think for a second they gave him the minutiae.

But I think he was corrected in the stuff he spoke about in the morning. He went with a major story that as we all saw yesterday caused massive waves in the media.

The point is that what we are offering players has become sensationalised and debilitating for sections of our fan base as it potentially impacts some of their favourite players.

It evidently unsettles some players and overall isn’t helpful. So a correction to certain stories is valuable.

It's all relative. If we were looking at a younger Dogs midfielder with upside you wouldn't say they were a spud because they can't break into a midfield of Richards, Bont, Libba & Treloar.

GWS just has a very good group of tall defenders in Taylor, Buckley & Idun plus I'm not sold on Himmelberg but he's a 200 gamer with tons of experience which makes him (Harry) more attractive for a side that fancied themselves as top 4 with a chance for a deep September run.

The other thing about Aleer is that he is a good fit for our age profile.
People should go back & watch Aleer's game v Geelong last year.

Phil Davis the only person in the media speaking with any rational sense on our strategy at the moment.

Seriously give it a read, it might help you understand how you are part of it and why people are chirping you so much.

Basic PR isn't rocket surgery.

Who’s chirping me love?

You haven’t answered my question.

What does the club gain by lying about its position here?

I highly rate Windy, have for some time. The main factor is if he can be replaced or not, based on his attributes/position. Put simply, he can. Harsh reality.

Loyalty is almost dead. I think we might all be forgetting this generation (ie early mid 20s) are a very different breed. They are entitled, they are all owed something in their minds and put simply, play for cash. No judgement on right or wrong but I know that I have and will continue to push my employer for as much $ as possible, especially if I know what they are paying others with no credits in the bank.

All of this leads to less dynasty type teams (thank christ) and more 1-2 cracks at it, then a re-tooling. Some teams will hang around longer due to FS picks who dont go (Lions for eg have a 10yr midfield all they need to do is top up around it), but overall the landscape is shifting.

Unless you have land in Lara or CottonOn jobs at $500/hr. Then you can do as you please.

How does that sound you replace him with a ready made and not lose ground? Also breaks bonds among players.

There has been a lot of noise and questions from our own supporters and others about the supposed salaries we are throwing around.

The Age reported in June that the average salary this year is $520k.

If Aleer is coming across on 600k with Triggers for potentially another 100k.

I don’t think a single person could complain about the club being wreckless etc.

TDK is reckless and likely to lose players already at the club.

Stav, mate, buddy.

Chill out, I don’t see anyone, anywhere saying or insinuating even that they are lying.

I’m sure they are confident the point is that confidence doesn’t mean shit in this context.

If your best mate said they were confident they could hook up with Sydney Sweeney, they might not be lying, doesn’t mean it’ll happen.

If you really don’t see the benefit for the club to continue being confident, both oublically and privately then I’m really not sure what to tell you, it’s a level of naivety I can’t really wrap my head around.

There is a vast difference having a mate talk up there ability to do something

And someone sharing how they are feeling a negotiation is going - of which they are getting first hand information as to where we are at with the state of play.

One is based on facts of the matter.

Your example is based on your idiot mate overrating their ability.

Your mate might not be deliberately misleading if he says he could bag Sydney, but he'd be delusional to a degree that would question his mental state. Which is just as bad.

Then again, I err on taking the club at its word, due largely to the fact I barrack for the St Kilda Football Club and not the AFL or Connors Sports Management.
