2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Christ i hope the mystery player happens soon as this tread has deteriorated into lets see how many geriatrics we can think of to trade for.
There have been some rippers mentioned so far , I'm sure if you mob really had a crack you could stoop even lower :p

Lots of triggers being reported as guaranteed money for shock value. Thats why the phrase 'up to' is a favourite of AFL journos at this time of year
My new favourite is ' other clubs are telling me the Saints have offered xx $, and up to xx$'

Saturday was my favourite.

Clubs are telling me 800x5
One club is telling me 900x5!!!!

Bloody Sam Edmund 😂

Mate no one except the club and TDK's immediate family know

And even if someone did and told you, you'd call them out for BS
Ok now I'm lost , What's TDK got to do with the Mystery man ?

Alex Davies was reported mid-year to be looking for opportunities elsewhere, not hard to believe given how stacked the Suns midfield is.

Has barely played the last few years at senior level, good for us age bracket wise, but does anyone think he has significant upside? Only contracted until the end of next year and you'd think the trade capital would be very low.

We have bigger fish to fry, no more GOPs

Someone else beat me to it but it wouldn't shock me if we did go in cahoots with Carlton to play the compo system. I've been thinking about it ever since the JSOS news came out. After all we tried with Essendon with the Gresham deal and they are hardly friends.

As for Essendon, does anyone not think its a coincidence that they willingly live traded with us all through last year's draft. We didnt bid on Kako...

Year before, GWS swapped with us for Leake/Wilson... we then gave them a live trade in their favour.

I absolutely think we are involved in this gaming the system up to our eyeballs. Of course, that would depend on either Curnow or Walsh nominating us.

But the premise is pretty simple, trigger JSOS band 1 - trade our first rounder for one of their top players. Then move around money or renegotiate contracts after the fact.

Basically Carlton would be receiving picks 7, 9 and 10 for a TDK, Walsh and JSOS - we would have a net trade loss of pick 7 only.

Alternate option, JSOS gets Band 2 end of first round pick. Lance Collard was band 2, which was pick 28 and his draft wasn't as cooked as this one. Based on that, I'm going with pick 30 for JSOS. So pick 9 for TDK, 30 for JSOS and Walsh for 7, maybe bit unlikely a future 2nd as well.

Its our version of pick purchasing and I dare say the club are happy to do it for a win in a Marshall or Steele trade. Pay a better contract to the free agent and reap the rewards. The system is unfair and not equal, I have zero issues with doing anything we can to strengthen our list.

May I make an outrageous suggestion?

Max Holmes.

Geelong are desperate to land Marshall as a ruckman and remain super keen on Angus Hastie who was the best Geelong Falcon drafted at the 2023 draft.

Didn’t we have a crack at Holmes before he re-signed with Geelong in 2024?

I know it sounds far fetched. Holmes is an absolute star.

There is less than zero percent chance.
