Meanwhile up in Brisbane Sam Marshall has gone straight by Dev Robertson. Absolute riches of young midfield talent up there.

I haven't read it - but it seems like an inappropriate 'name' for the rule - Buddy played out his contract and signed on for another year after he had completed it didn't he ?
It does talk a bit in that article about it being there to disincentivize unfair player movement which I think is part of the reason Free agency contracts have to be paid in full regardless.. so it makes sense based on that aspect. But that doesnt effect players re-signing so it just makes the whole thing murky. Its typical of the AFL though to come down on everything with a wet noodle they can weasel out of if necessary.

Article on fox footy website indicating Brisbane are likely to kill it in the draft again with their bevy of players only they have access to.

And they get Annable next draft who is another top 10 talent. Should be looking at picking a few off.

I can’t believe he was allowed to play for the Dragons while being a member of the Lions Academy. Absolute joke of a draft system we have.

They will then struggle to keep their ‘handy’ players that could be regulated to depth.

100%

Their list is so stacked right now that, unless they basically stop drafting or a bunch of guys retire, there will be talent that has to be delisted or moved on. Between them and Gold Coast, you could just about field three AFL-level teams with the talent they have.

That’s the go. They won’t be able to keep them all and some decent players will be regulated to depth.
The only way to deal with this is to let them develop then pick them off at 21 or 22 like Leek Aleer.
The other 14 clubs should do it for 2 players every 3 years. That's about 9 players.
Use the Kent's as development teams and mark the corrupt AFL.

But they get to keep the best ones. C'mon, Joff, you and I both know this can't endure.

I understand the game development aspect of the northern academies, which is why I would tolerate one selection outside the draft per season. Everyone else just goes into the draft.

Will be interesting how the suns fit rowell, anderson, touk, rogers, humphrey, graham, long, ainsworth, lombard, uwland, patterson, addinsall all into the team as medium sized attacking/midfield players

Exactly.
This competition is such a farce.
We’ve said it before, but Basset is absolutely on the money and if other presidents are not following his lead then they should not have the job.

At what point do we seriously consider dropping Jack Steele?

There'd be less fuss about it if he wasn't captain.

But they might benefit from it. If you were a successful club 20 years ago, you are more likely to have 100 game players, so the father-son rule entrenches disadvantage. Collingwood won't come out against father-son when their last three premiership season All Australians were all father-son selections.

At least contriving the fixture to maximise attendance leads to greater revenues distributed to all teams. The father-son rule does nothing for the competition.

I think we just need to give him the Caminiti rule - handball only. His kicking is getting worse by the year.

They won’t. They can see the fixture punishment handed out to us this year and they’ll all fold like a deck of cards 🎴

Caminiti wasn’t on the Carlton list?

someone will know more
but from memory reading on here he got an invite to train at the blues and was towelling up mckay
young sos rang the old man and said this kids dominating
next minute old sos has him training for us and he got signed
so we poached him from right under their nose
