I think worrying about Nas because of what happened with battle is misguided.

To me, Nas seems like a guy who wants to be part of this young group that hopefully goes on to achieve something at the Saints. He's spoken highly of the club and the connections he's made from the start. I'm sure the pull of family is a thing but honestly, it's not that far away. I think he'll be after decent coin and he deserves it. I think the club will come to the party and do everything they can to keep him.

battle on the other hand................. is whipped

I think I’m with you on the FreeA stuff, but for Battle, I don’t think it’s pretty obvious at all. What is the obvious thing to do in that scenario? What are we gonna do? Start paying off other coaches so they won’t poach? Mmm wait a sec, maybe that’s not a bad idea?

But Hawthorn, the coach, the media, the family barbecue and all the connections in business. What can we do? I think banning him from the B&F was a good bit of theatre actually. Shows how little clout we have . A big embarrassing but ? And who knows, maybe his team mates voted on that for all we know. He let them down that’s for sure.

Edit: we wanna beat Hawthorn this year..and in a crushing way.
We didn’t ban him from the bnf. There would have genuinely been fisty cuffs if he came.

Fair enough then.
In either case, the internal reasons, circumstances and the external, the optics etc. may not have aligned, but the effect is the effect so to speak - if that makes sense. And as far as I’m concerned, from a million miles away, I don’t mind it one bit.

If Battle leaving bonds the group a little better, I’m all for it.

I really hated the effect of, “It’s for family reasons, family always first etc and all that” .. as if we’re to object, we’d be less than wholesome ..

And I happen to know that all of us are Saintly. (With a few minor impurities perhaps)

I reckon there is something to the rumours that he basically lied to the players about staying. Nobody would get this bent out of shape if he moved teams normally.
I think one of the Jay Clark articles all but confirm it.

Pretty weak thing to do. If he wanted to leave, thats fine. But at least have the balls to tell your teammates instead of lying to their face your staying and then texting them the truth the next day.

Surely someone knows the real story. Footy clubs are huge with massive numbers of staff, partners, family and friends. Couldn’t be too hard to find out what genuinely happened.

He did. He got blind at mad Monday and made an absolute ars of himself aswell.

I mean he wouldn't be the first bloke to do that.
Yeah, well, probably not easy for him. But it still burns the Saints.
People get pissed and make arses of them selves - my hand is high, been there done it - way more than I’d admit in real life.

He’ll be a bit cursed, but who knows..he might have charisma like Tony Greig . Remember his defection to WSC! And he actively recruited from national teams.. but we still ended up loving anyway! Nutrigrain Man!

So he should work on the charisma !

Can you tell me about this player?
I was on the Murphy bandwagon once watching the champs.
Smooth, balanced, Pendlebury type ( I said type not good as).
Others thought him to be one paced and only a pure mid.
Personally would have taken him over Travaglia or Tauru, but I am not moaning about those two, just I wanted a pure mid. Boxshall and Said are mids and maybe 8 and 9 was a reach.

I see.
Can I assume that Murphy is mentioned in this thread because he comes up a possible, ‘one that got away’?
He was number 17 on the draft.

If you followed the draft thread, there were about half a dozen pure mids including Ashcroft.
Then there were the likes of Travaglia, Tauru, Lombard ( another NGA) that could have gone anywhere top ten.
Then there were ' 2nd tier' mids Berry, Hotton, Murphy who many thought a stretch in the top ten.
If for example Tauru had been taken before our pick, highly likely we pick a Draper or a Smillie and then Travaglia. However they were all gone.
We tried to split pick 8 for a couple of late 1sts but no takers. If that had happened we may have got Murphy but was not to be.
Murphy as the one that got away? Maybe but Phillipou pick 10, NAZ pick 13, Wilson pick 18 all look higher than their pick.

I personally would have taken Murphy however I am certainly not unhappy with Travaglia and Tauru.

I will happily throw up my hand here and say that I wasn't the biggest Travaglia fan in the lead up to the draft ... sure he is a great runner and a nice mark but highlights also showed he would bomb it long down the line and he was for the most part ..... a general backline player

Just struggling to see him more than that (sorry can't shake that niggle) .... I see a dashing defender who is good one on one and can play on smalls and talls with that ability to break lines ... now maybe I am and hopefully will be proven wrong and he can transition to mid field or maybe a hard running wing like Wilson ..... but I have my reservations.

Anyway go Tobie!! :thumbsu:

Are you saying that - to make a gross generalization - you are sensing a Shane Savage?

Couldn't the long bomb be trained out of him pretty easily?

Mnn… thanks for this cool info.

Just don’t know enough about the details to add anything useful.

But that doesn’t stop me! Lol

It would seem then, our bid to split number 8 into two teens, wasn’t a goer. Was that par for the course ? I mean generally, the splitting thing tends to have buyers or not?

I just wonder, I can’t shake off my St Kilda victim mentality sometimes, and I sense that other clubs know we are in a bind.
Anyway, it can’t be that bad. I wonder how many number 5s to number 10s tend to bloom, co,pared to number 15s to number 20s.? And which group is likely to stick fat with their adopted club, and how many just use it as a ‘starting club’ if successful, or as ‘rescue shelter’ if struggling?
