How good would it have been having TDK and Marshall playing together yesterday with both playing time in fwd half
I think the club definitely sees TDK as a proper rucking forward with him and Marshall sharing the center at an 80/20 split. Would solve a large portion of our issues in another big tall mark up forward and an option versus the rucks that Marshall stuggles with.

Any word of him being our no1 ruck is absurd in my opinion. Marshall is too good as a centre bounce ruck/mid to take him out of there but there ARE times he gets overpowered in there as well.

Just gotta finish the season out strong.

O'Brien would be a good pickup , he is at his peak now and would be ok for the next 3 yrs at least and would cost half the Carlton guy worth.
Paying through the roof for a ruck to me is the type of thing we would do when we need a top class mid - put that into Rowland, Butters or someone else.
Guys like Merrit would be ruing there decision at staying at the Bombers, there is no reason we can't pick up a class mid.
LDU took the safe option like a lot of these players do and stay where they know they are safe.

You do know Adelaide are more than likely to trade for Sam Draper this year, there is a reason they want an upgrade.

Carlton would be hating on us big time for doing this.
Mind you we’ll wear it big time if he stays.
If he does come I’d also take jos as steak knives 🔪 just to burn 🔥 them a bit more.

2 that caught my eye...

Mihocek and Hewett
Mihocek is pretty much what Sharman is to us. If we want an old stop-gap key forward I think we need someone that can play King's role - like what Brisbane have done with Sam Day to bridge the gap between Daniher and their young key fwds

Hewett is a good player but realistically, how long until we start prioritising a guy like Boxshall over him?

I think our current strategy is to either go big with guaranteed long-term best 22 players, or to invest in young talent via the draft/out of favour guys like Aleer

TDK, Bergman, Aleer. Maybe Worpel. All guys in that 24-27 age bracket which is a gaping hole in our age demographic

Chasing a demographic is over-rated in my opinion.

FYI, TDK is a restricted free agent. If Carlton can pay they can force a trade.

Doing that could turn into a full-blown Stephen O'Reilly situation - no way they could handle it under the cap what with Cripps, Curnow, McKay, Walsh, Weitering, Cerra, Saad. Basically they've painted themselves into the situation we did a decade and change ago, lots of money at the top end, constant squeeze at the other.

He couldn't even look Ross in the eye when Ross was talking to him

A wonderful sign of respect for a coach by Aboriginal players. Means I may not agree but I am listening and respecting.

One way or another, it's De Koning. I'd be rather annoyed if we sign TDK and that means Marshall doesn't play. Two on the list means one in the forward line.
At the risk of saying something nobody really wants to say out loud, and becoming absolutely hated in here, if TDK comes, do we genuinely consider trading Marshall?

I say this with all love and respect for Marshall. Bloke is a warrior. But realistically, how many years does his body actually have left? And if anyone can make 2 no.1 rucks work. its Lyon. But all available evidence says they are both at their best playing 80+% ruck. So is the idea of Marshall forward better than the actual reality?

Let me be clear, I would only consider this for the absolute right price. But the equation is not just swapping a 5 year younger TDK for Marshall. It is TDK + 1 top 5 pick / 2 late firsts / a young emerging player. Plus moving Marshall reduces the cap hit from DeKonig.

The supporter in me hates the idea. But on the flip side, in my opinion the club would be negligent to not to at least look at what it could get. Those Jonathon Hay / Ryan Griffen / Bryce Gibbs type trades can look horrible in the moment (and have the potential to be Shaun Bergoyne level stuff ups). But do we need a high / risk high reward move to get us out of being that mid-table 7-12 win a season team?

the reason we are getting TDK is to get bigger bodies...trading Marshall would send that to a net zero effect. See how they go together before nixing the idea i feel

Briggs was a GWS Academy player, they didnt have to give up much for. They have two other ex Academy good young ruckman on their list its very different to having to trade for or draft the players. We have been our own worst enemy with not drafting decent ruckman in the past and propping up the list with has beens.

Im sure the club would prefer a midfielder over a ruckman but as was the case with LDU, Callaghan etc they simply cant extract one.

TDK will improve our side and allow us to play Marshall forward, the last thing we need is a burnt out ex Adelaide ruckman. Petracca and Oliver are yester years players they also have fallen off a cliff, if we are to pay big for a player the club are looking at a much younger age group. The days of paying other clubs players retirement funds should be behind us.
Petracca hasn't fallen of a cliff lol he's just playing in a diabolical side. As far as free agency goes we have the money, we're throwing it around and we'll take what we can get. I'm not sure a TDK/Marshall combo is the best distribution of resources but it would be a headache for opposition coaches and ruckmen for sure.

There is a worm in the back of my head, and it's saying....

".....what if Marshall wanted out last year, as reported in the media at the time, and we pleaded that he give us one more year to find a replacement, which he agreed to...."

Hence offering TDK an offer he can't refuse???

If we base our whole recruiting strategy on what a replaceable ruckman demands, the recruiting team, the coaches, the President, and the temporary receptionist should all be sacked, immediately, tonight, by text.

Somehow think the strategy has been a bit more thought through though. (hey just used one of those quirky English language anomalies with those last three words ending in T 🤣🤣).

He seems to love the place and is - by all accounts - extremely popular with his teammates and coaches.
Buuut, I love a good conspiracy theory with a bit of a back story, so kudo's... let's run with it. 😎👍

Just had the RFA's and FA list.
They think TDK is gone and Worpel a maybe.
So can we target both TDK and Worpel as FA while looking at Aleer and Bergman?
Have we the cap I wonder?
Don't believe we are chasing Bergman
