They have an issue with players wanting out so I get the concept. They just need to pay fair value.
They're getting quite a few players in now as well and not losing anything like they were at the start. The competition needs to be fair. For new teams giving them a 5 year armchair ride is fair enough

Hey Dard Ball Get get a load of this bloke, wants to walk an unrestricted free agent to the
Ok champ. You think Bont is even leaving. Go back to your core competency of bitching about last years draft order 🙄

Yet Hugh Goddard was still on our list in 2018.
In 2019 we only got 10 games out of Carlisle.
2020, and we had Howard and Austin.
2021 , Callisle played 4 games, anyone relying on him needed a good slapping.
Clav played 5 games and McKernan didn't put him to shame.
Brown had actually been very very good, but he had retired ( 31 yo ).
We still had Austen but didn't play him.
We all laughed at Frawley.
Joyce played 5 games.

2022:
In Oscar Adams.
If they thought Lionert was a key defender, they should have been sweeping floors in some factory.
Joyce , Highmore , Battle.
Pretty stupid writing off Clav at 21 , after hanging onto Goddard for years.

In 2015, Clavarino represented Vic Country at the AFL under-16 national championships, held on the Gold Coast in July. He appeared at the 2016 under-18 national championships as a bottom-ager. On his return in 2017, he co-captained Vic Country alongside James Worpel and made the All-Australian side.[5]

In August 2016, Clavarino was named among thirty prospective draftees for the following year in the AFL Academy's level-two intake.[6] In December that year, he trained with Melbourne for two weeks as part of an Academy program to give prospective draftees insight into life at an AFL club.[7]

Ahead of the 2017 national draft, it was unclear when Clavarino would be selected; media assessments placed him between a late first-round pick to an early third-round pick. He was considered the best intercept marker in his cohort and noted for his leadership.

Saints are like a stupid little kid with ADHD. If we get nice toys we break them.
It's the same old story at the Saints.. there's always talk of development, but it's a short-term thing. We keep on falling for the instant fix on and off the field. Hard to see this ever turning around.

I think we had a real problem with offering longer than necessary contracts to kids who weren't going to make it then having to let go of project players because list spots got tight. List management is as much about the ability to identify and develop players as it is about financial terms.

Key to the criticism of what many perceived to be a planned attack on the Suns was previous instances of St Kilda officials bemoaning their position.

But Lyon said he and the club would continue to stay the course and not be “derailed” by outside noise, with support of some of the club’s greats.

“We’ve 25 list changes in two years, gone from second and fifth oldest to third youngest (list),” he said.

“In that period of time, we played a finals series … we’ve beaten some decent teams this year, we’re inconsistent, and we’re still trying to build out our list.

“We know we have that strategic vision we are working on, getting our salary cap in order, trying to target free agents, going to the draft, signing our really good players.

“We want to become the best Saints ever and we feel by definition winning a premiership will do that. The overarching view is we are executing.

“I get texts all the time, Barry Breen says stay the course. It’s a bit rough, keep playing the kids, which we are doing.”

Is he not effectively saying he isn’t Gettable?

Pretty good indication things are heading the right way or close to being done.

Until he's signed he's gettable. Not sure what he's trying to do to be honest. Either announce it or don't expect the media to not speculate. I love Ross but he seems like he's trying to duck for cover while throwing smoke bombs lately.

Where is he ducking for cover?

Sam Edmund -

Tom De Koning here in Melbourne is increasingly likely to leave now. That's not an earth-shattering statement.
It’s gone from supreme confidence at the Blues initially that he would stay, to then hope. And now, it would be described as almost resignation that he will accept the big-money offer from St Kilda.
The longer it goes, well, we know how this movie plays out.
There's been no movement thus far over the Carlton bye period when these things generally progress. Nothing, tumbleweeds.
They could be surprised, but let's say he leaves for the Saints. Does Rowan Marshall have a decision to make?

Happy with that too. He needs to do the hard work to get results from it. I think SOS did him a dirty by cutting too hard and not replacing the mid age bracket but we need to play kids and get results from our drafting and development now.

The list is coming along nicely and we have done a mountain of repair work. Hope we don't go chasing patch jobs now. We should be very targeted and focussed on players that are good value and will be here for the longer term.

SOS left Carlton with some horrible contracts that have stalled them just short of the finish line.

SOS reports to Ross.

Hard to “do him dirty”

He's hiding from our absolutely embarrassing form line by blaming the AFL and the northern clubs, complaining about the media now. He needs to take responsibility for his role and get on with making a plan to dig our way out of it.

Try again mate. He isn’t hiding from anything.

“I moved on to the review, we really need to improve our footy.”

If Marshall wanted to part ways send to to Giants and get one of the Giants’ young gun key forwards.. maybe that’s overs I dunno
Depends how desperate they are for a better ruck I guess. If I were them I wouldn't be doing that. Not sure Marshall moves the needle a heap for them and young gun key forwards don't grow on trees. If he wants to go there they may just take him and run though.

Well announce it then and it all goes away.
They've run out of biro's at Moorabbin.
The trainee receptionist is getting ready to make a big order from Officeworks.
She just needs to check the stocks of postits and paperclips.
