Adam Jones was predicting 20's/30's for Rodriguez. He had Farrow as 1st pick from WA, Swaddling and possibly Curtain being rated higher by clubs before Rodriguez. This is not taking into account that he's likely optimistic in his outlook given his role as WA talent manager. He also mentioned Pickett as a possible draft bolter.

Also being so called easy/flexible at the trade table will make it easier for agents to recommend their star free agent players to join your club btw, Essendon for example only recruited one big name star to their club during Dodoro's reign (Brendan Goddard) and that was because he was a free agent.

Being reasonable at the trade table will result in more big names be willingly traded to Freo (although granted, i understand your angst given Freo's previous trading history)

You have to give up quality to get quality in today's AFL (especially if you are in the premiership window like Freo)

Didn't Wallsy also engineer the fleecing of Geelong for Jordan Clark (which imo was low key one of the best value bargain trades in the last 10 years) ?

No recruiting manager is flawless or perfect, but I honestly happen to believe Wallsy's record in the last 5 years stacks up as well as a anyone else in the AFL, especially given your club's finishing position and lack of father son and academy picks.

I'll see myself out now, but i genuinely wish Freo all the best and think you guys should be very.excited/optimistic for 2026 and the future.

Oh don’t worry we all well aware of wallsy’s good bloke status(that’s half the joke with these trades) - that’s hes TOO much of a good bloke lol

It’s just Freo as a club gets absolutely ZERO from the AFL so a lot of us feel the only way we can even compete is to get as much as we can from the avenues we do have available

And yes the big fellas drafting and talent ID is second to none in the AFL - we just wish he’d be a bit more ruthless (an entire club affliction unfortunately)at the trade table even just a little more

That all said I’m actually a bit meh over it all- may rage more if we miss out on a gun in that draft range of our original first but for now it’s more amusing than anything

I’m certain we could’ve done better.

We could’ve even waited until Demons traded Petracca. They may likely of had pick 14 or 17 from GC. Could’ve then downgraded 12 for one of those and 33.

IF we had to help broker a deal between them, then there just had to be more in it for us.

Also, no rush. Could’ve waited much longer and found a way OR if we didn’t find a way, then yes, be knobs and say best we can offer is 33.

There is also fifth, sixth and seventh round picks if needed.
Essentially our last pick will be Whan and we may decide to go with one pick and Whan or picks 19 and 46 and whatever late pick is needed for Whan.

The only way this convoluted pick trade is a bit better is if there is a future pick trade involved as well. Not holding my breath though.

Must admit I don’t know about all these point calculations, but if for some reason there has been stuff up on our part. If walls (or someone else in the trade team, who’s job is to calculate all the points ) realises there’s been a stuff up, because the papers actually haven’t been lodged yet and don’t get lodged till sometime tomorrow morning EST, can someone from the Freo team actually pause the trade, pull the papers back and request the extra/future pick ?

Not sure how anyone can be happy with the trade. 12+33 for 19+23 is underwhelming on its own. Then we give away 50 to downgrade 44 2 spots. We have given away 33 and 50 for nothing.

23 for McVee is about right, I'm fine with that just not happy with how we got 23
