Disagree. But you are free to think that.

Lions offensive attack is much more potent than Pies. You can argue Pies are better defensively, but when Lions are continuously attacking, the Pies defense don't natter... it falls down.
need a few adjustments, I agree.
Yup.

Some Pies fans are just too biased to see that Pies have glaring hole offensively.

Admit that Pies have amazing elite defense, probably best in the league and ideal for Finals... but the lack of scoring punch is a weakness.. Melbourne is a perfect lesson to learn from.

Pies need to improve their attacking to support their elite defense.

Lions maybe middle of the ground defensively, but it don't matter when their offensive attack keeps the other team busy scrambling....

Pies need to get punchier attack wise.
Agree with this.
Our defensive system is magnificent.
But our offence was pretty much neutered in the second half of year.
I think this is also a reflection of our need for a big midfield gun to stand alongside Long and allow JDG, Jaicos, Naicos to play where they are best, slightly more on the outside.

Naicos putting up with tags most weeks and also carrying the Pies play making takes its toll...

Will Ashcroft having McCluggage, Neale, Ah Chee, His brother etc. Helping spread out the defensive attention helps him tremendously.

Pies need to put a Gun Superstar next to Naicos so teams can't focus on Naicos and watch him put up 50 disposal games.
I think we can't afford to wait another year to get butters. We may have to pull the trigger on it this year.

We’ve had plenty of games with 10 goal kickers - if our game plan is on, we score. And if we only lose Brodie, then we’ll still be very competitive.

I think we can all agree both Daicos and Ashcroft are absolute young stars.
One cops the most defensive attention in the league, the other has about 4-5 mids around him who do all the dirty work.

No team is going around building game plans to stop Ashcroft, it is usually mcluggage and rayner and neale who are targeted by opposition mids.

Don't play ignorant now. You would only suggest that (especially after I had already disagreed) if you thought so. Own your opinion :)

I said earlier they are equal. So why would I say he is better a few posts later. Hence the question mark to your comment. Anyway, I couldn't be assed arguing with you.

Naicos is constantly being held in contests and always a defender on him and he still plays well... hence why he's getting lots of Brownlow votes and MVP votes.

But Will Ashcroft is a gun also, just that he is free to roam and free to do what he wants, because other teams are busy defending Neale, McCluggage from getting to the ball and setting the Lions up...

Pies Management should be doing what they can to trade for a superstar midfield to help Naicos.... heck trade Houston for one Pies can afford to lose Houston for a better midfield than Long.

Mate, you are ignoring what my point.

Pies need to match or reduce the gap offensively with Lions to stand a chance.

Pies scoring 100 points against a bad team because that bad team is easy to rebound from is not the same as matching up with Lions, who are very very potent attack wise.

I’d argue our biggest hole is the midfield

We have

  • Nick
  • Beau

That’s it. That’s all we have in terms of genuine and consistent centre bounce performers.

Long isn’t quite up to the standard
De Goey can randomly go missing (like last week)
Pendles is a touch too old and slow (and we really need to stop relying on a near 40 year old)
Crisp isn’t a true midfielder

Josh could be a great midfielder but we don’t use him there

Perryman seems like he could be handy but again, we haven’t been using him there

Now that I think about it, selection is also one of our biggest weaknesses

Haha, just thinking of all the media people who support Cats

Comedy Central Lol GIF
Yep, FN sick of them all, so I'm wrapt for them 🤣

Well yes.

When I say Attack, I didn't say Forwards...

Pies need someone who can get to the ball first or break through defenses in the middle creating entries constantly from the midfield.... hence attacking from the midfield.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. Pies need guns in the midfield who can break defense, create plays and create scoring opportunities.... outside of Naicos.

Ughh going to see a lot of Ashcroft better than daicos comments .
He's a terrific player for sure, but Nick puts up great performances consistently without much help, whereas Ashcroft has a bunch of class mids to help him.
I would have given the Norm to Andrews or McCluggage.
The AFL has created a monster.

Agree. Our midfield lacks a gun barrel bodied midfielder. Ned Long might develop into one in a few years, but he can't do it alone now.
all our other stars: JDG, Naicos, Jaicos, Beau, are not fully fledged inside mids.
I thought this at the start of the year, and unfortunately this is what actually was proven.
Just so much wished we had tried to get Matt Kennedy last year when he became availalbe.
I hope this trade season we home in on any such possiblities should they arise.
