Pies need to match or reduce the gap offensively with Lions to stand a chance.

Pies scoring 100 points against a bad team because that bad team is easy to rebound from is not the same as matching up with Lions, who are very very potent attack wise.

I’d argue our biggest hole is the midfield

That’s it. That’s all we have in terms of genuine and consistent centre bounce performers.

Long isn’t quite up to the standard
De Goey can randomly go missing (like last week)
Pendles is a touch too old and slow (and we really need to stop relying on a near 40 year old)
Crisp isn’t a true midfielder

Josh could be a great midfielder but we don’t use him there

Perryman seems like he could be handy but again, we haven’t been using him there

Now that I think about it, selection is also one of our biggest weaknesses

Last touch rule has dramatically reduced stoppages in the SANFL - so mid depth will become less influential.

Pies need someone who can get to the ball first or break through defenses in the middle creating entries constantly from the midfield.... hence attacking from the midfield.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. Pies need guns in the midfield who can break defense, create plays and create scoring opportunities.... outside of Naicos.

Some Pies fans here are simply one eyed supporters.

Pies have glaring hole and it needs to be fixed to have a chance to beat Lions in a finals scenario.

The same Pies fans will dismiss losing to GWS in round 0, will then use a win in April as a barometer.....No one cares about Pies winning a game for 4 points in April as much as a game in July and August with Finals around the corner.

Not enough of the wider footballing public respects what we achieved in 2023.

That Grand Final was one of the all time great performances from us.

Lions having gone back to back has enhanced our achievement.

We might have stopped a fourpeat, like we did against Richmond in 2018 and the pretend Magpies did against the Lions in 2004, and like we did against the Dees in 1958.

I have a feeling Geelong realised that their midfield wasn't going to be good enough by the mid year bye. They went for a very risky plan of playing a double tag in the midfield. The really obvious thing to come out of today is that sides are going to need 3, possibly 4 quality midfielders to actually be able to take on Brisbane's mids. Geelong needs a couple more quality mids just like us and few other serious challengers
