I must've spend too many hours on the felt tables, and not enough time on the scrabble board.I thought he must have thought we were playing billiards or snooker.

Cue the comeback...I must've spend too many hours on the felt tables, and not enough time on the scrabble board.

What's wrong with ball in hand? The amount of times people say, 'ball in hand' when talking about footy is getting ridiculous.
Though we did get 'check side' from snooker and I'm fine with that![]()
Port will be similar
Butters $1.5m
Nas $1.2
Rozee $1m plus
JHF???
I can't see how you can build a good team with more than 1 or 2 guys over $1m.
Port's team is full of scrubs that should be not playing AFL footy purely because their cap is skewed towards top talent.
It is like our SANFL team. AFL talent and top ups in the 22.
Hence all the scrubbers they play.Butters $1.5m
NWM $1.2
Bergman $1m
Lukosius $1m
Rozee $1m plus
JHF - $900k
Maybe $6.5m between their mid and half backs? Leaves about $11m for everyone else - roughly $325k a player.

Mentioned on here a few weeks ago is contracted for 2026 but would be a very good idea to go with a pre-emptive strike to see if you can get into his head to maybe come home and pry him out, especially as Port no doubt would have interest as well.Rosas and Frederick would be handy.
Frederick has family ties here, though I cant see Freo not offering him a deal.
I really like Logan Evans as a medium defender if we’re looking to free up Max further , he seems to be in and out of the side this year - form or injury related or preferring Jones/Sinn to justify their draft position? With Bergman now the latest signing on the AFL & Trade Radio are going to be continually furious this current generation of players in the majority are proving to be more or less a bit more less inclined to seek a move than the previous generation of players.
After TDK probably moves on the first day of Free Agency they are going to have to pad out the rest of the entire ridiculous extended period with just speculation around Jamarra, the ruckman merry-go-round, Sam Flanders to Victoria and Carlton’s inquisition. Their script writers are going to have to come up with some strange names to speculate over.
Off the back of this also you would say it would look increasingly likely with minimal bigger names available and the NWM stuff that if the Crows want to continue down the trading in players space like they did last year they would really have to go even more deeper into the moneyball path this particular offseason.
Going through each team around the league there really isn’t much. The only areas I maintain the team needs improvement in is; speed in the front half of the ground, general outside run & carry and maybe a small/medium lockdown defender to free Michalanney up… and I literally went through every clubs list and it’s rather slim pickings, these were the only names I could really find that wouldn’t break the bank, I consider half decent and that might consider a move;
Michael Frederick - Freo
Connor Budderick - GC (speculated had interest in)
Malcolm Rosas - GC (linked to last year)
Hugo Ralphsmith - Rich
Jai Serong - Haw
Josh Fahey - GWS
I mean it’s really not great but I swear do the exercise yourself and you’d be surprised how little you can find around currently. The Tex retirement could play into thinking depending on whether they look to play 3 taller forward options into the future as well but again talented key forwards from other clubs that would consider a move are also limited, quite like Max Gruzewski from GWS who could easily turn out to be a Logan Morris type player and he’s stuck behind a couple at the moment but the cupboards pretty bare league wide.
Agree he’s shown good signs albeit he’s been horribly inconsistent this year, signed on to 2028 plus a direct crows/port trade in current times seems almost impossible. It’s probably a good thing they don’t happen as imagine having to deal with this…I really like Logan Evans as a medium defender if we’re looking to free up Max further , he seems to be in and out of the side this year - form or injury related or preferring Jones/Sinn to justify their draft position?

I wonder if there's wide variance between clubs?
Some people have questioned why we kept guys like James Borlase or Chris Burgess and it's probably for this very kind of reason. Not great, probably won't ever push into the 22 on pure talent, but they can play forward, down back, ruck if you're super desperate and they're probably on the minimum or close to it.I've heard a few times when guys like on the couch go through team lists and they basically state half the salary cap goes to the first 8 or nine players
Yeah, 100% I'd agree. Some people have questioned why we kept guys like James Borlase or Chris Burgess and it's probably for this very kind of reason. We need a speedy agile hard edged small forward if we're going to use Rankine and possibly Rachele more in the midfiels and there's a ripper who until now has mostly flown under the radar big time in Talor Byrne, at this point could possibly be picked up later in the draft with Twomey and co focussing on the likes of Hussein Al Achkar, Lachy Dovaston, Wes Walley, Adam Sweid, Jai Saxena and Zane Peuker etc.
Most of those listed there are aligned to AFL clubs via their NGA Academy.
Lachy Dovaston is probably the only high profile small forward available in this year's draft and will likely go 1st round given the paucity of small forward talent available in the draft.
IMO Talor Byrne's style is more suited to our needs than all of those others named with his take no prisoners attack on the contest not to mention his very decent left boot and forward craft when played there. Plays a lot of midfield for the Rebels with his toughness and contested ability but he'll play forward at AFL level. Already a solid little unit so I wouldn't anticipate he'd take too long to be AFL ready.

Is he more a small midfielder playing as a forward or do you think he has genuine forward craft? We need a speedy agile hard edged small forward if we're going to use Rankine and possibly Rachele more in the midfiels and there's a ripper who until now has mostly flown under the radar big time in Talor Byrne, at this point could possibly be picked up later in the draft with Twomey and co focussing on the likes of Hussein Al Achkar, Lachy Dovaston, Wes Walley, Adam Sweid, Jai Saxena and Zane Peuker etc.

What other sports is it common in?Just taking terms from other sports and using it with footy.
Players referred to as 'quarterbacks'. Whateley has introduced players 'running interference'.
Just an annoyance, but I get 'checkside' came from snooker and that's now well part of the footy vernacular.
