When I saw Cripps close up last night toss the coin, his eyes were red, obviously still ordinary from his virus, couldn't run and was hampered by what he had.
Had to duck out of the huddle at one stage and pull his jumper over his face while he had a coughing fit. Shouldn't have played.

If there was any ounce of selection integrity, he wouldn't have been selected, anyone who has tried to compete after "isolation" with a virus knows the body won't perform. Pathetic call from the MC
Correction - pathetic call from the MC and the captain.

Cripps should be experienced enough to know better- listen to his interview after the match - loves vossy, played because he hates missing games.

The sooner Cripps is out of the leadership group, if not the club the better

0 depth, not even a midfield emergency of note was listed. Shows how bad our list is when they think a 10% Cripps is better than what we have.

And for Cripps, good leadership is knowing when you are actually going to be more a hindrance to the team and sit it out.
Gave away Kennedy and Carrol, lost Jagga early season but picked up 3 small forwards in early draft and mid season

Last season at this time of year we were in 2nd place on the ladder. Media talking point.

TDK was in unbelievable form, Cripps in Brownlow form, Harry was good, Charlie holding his own, Weitering was solid, Walsh was good.

This season, they are all average for some reason or another. TDK has been no where near what he was, our slump last season came when he went down with ribs and foot.

This is how reliant we are on these 6 blokes and our game plan revolves around them, rather than a structured system. We rely on natural talent more than a structured system.

Of course this would upset any side when your top talent isn't doing the job but it shouldn't make your side incompetent.
Couldn't have said it any better...

Issues everywhere when you lay it out like this...

  • System & Structure doesn't work without the top 6 (Coaching)
  • No depth or support to cover the top 6 through form or injury (List Management)

I thought Flynn young looked more and more comfortable as the game went on.
Something to work with there imo
You could see how nervous he was at the start. Might as well persist with him to the end of the year, we have nothing else to play for.

Who's the boss? Coach or captain?
  • Who's allowing the tail to wag the dog?
  • Who's allowing these so called "star" players to select themselves even when their out of form?
  • Who's allowed this to fester to what it is today?
  • Who selected the side for last years EF v Brisbane, basically telling the younger players, I'm selecting a guy who hasn't played all season coming back from an ACL ahead of you, or a small forward and wing man with bung shoulders ahead of you?
  • This is the side Voss and co has created over 3 and half years. This culture hasn't just turned up this season.
Agree, Cripps should have made the call himself, but sometimes the coach has to coach instead of be mates with the boys.

They both need to be accountable. The coach would be taking feedback from the players and as captain, Cripps would have a large degree of input. In an ideal world, both should be gone.

You are right, this culture hasn't just turned up this season - however Cripps has been in a leadership role within that culture for the most part of this career. If we are serious about performance/standards, he should be gone

Think the first half was laid bear as to our failings tbh.

Voss has given the team a game plan that suits our list (ie slow big bodied suited to contested footy). Trouble is the game has moved on to a faster turnover and transition based style.

The first half was a lesson in current game style, they ran at every opportunity, spread well from the contest and generated a lot of uncontested kick mark. We have too many at the contest but we have to play this way because if we don't keep the ball in tight we get pantsed on the outside.

We shouldn't be playing zone defence because we can't shut down space, Our mids and even our wingers have no pace. Watching Cerra run to try and cover is like watching molasses trying to get away from a spoon. Similar with Cripps (even when fit), Arces can run all day but he's one paced, Weiters is slow, Charlie is not quick, Fog, boyd, Young, Saad just gets lost, Ollie is not overly quick, Lord and George (even though his burst has improved). I can see why Williams spent more time in the middle than usual.

If we look at our running players who do we have with a bit of genuine toe who regularly plays seniors; Fanta, Williams, Cincotta, Durdin. Pretty slim pickings.

Now have a look at who Port had in the middle. Yes Wines has been injured but Hinckley has given the likes of him and Boak
less time there and put mids with good pace in there (guys like Bergman, Butters, Horne-Francis) and it was on full display last night and we had no counter to it.

Unfortunately Carlton has been doubling down on the wrong player type and didn't notice the changes coming into the game.

So whom do you think would've been best equipped to defend Georgiardes?

No one.

When a playing list has given up on the coach, those players will give no effort and lose contests all over the ground. Port were our latest opponents to have it easy. Next week it will be Collingwood.

I would give my left nut for a Craig Bellamy to coach this club.
Most of the Prima Donna players would be out the door.
Have been lucky to meet Craig and have dinner with him a couple of times.

If there was someway you could get that man in to mentor the next coach it would be unbelievable.

Absolutely uncompromising on standards.

There would be no slacking off regardless of what your name is.

After another insipid performance was glaring obvious we have a one paced midfield with make shift forward flankers whom can't hit the scoreboard.

As much as I rate fogarty pressure & hardness the boy just can't kick or even hit up basic passes.

Maybe they practise the old fashioned circle work as out kicking skills are so bad we just up the ball.

I reckon if we kicked it into our 50 & we had 6 blokes & opposition had just 1 player we would hit the opposition player on the chest FFS

Maybe we should aim for the oppo jumper??
It's a bit like my old Dad used to say about his golf game. " I never find the bunkers, because I always aim for them..."

Where did I say there weren't (many) others last night who failed miserably.

He was AWOL in H1 last week too.

And no, it's far from 110% on the players.... that's laughable.

If the Coach and his cast of 100s can't put up and implement a well structured, coherent game plan that produces results, what does anyone really expect?
Lets just agree to disagree.

I tend to agree,

The problem might be, that by the time we get players who are up to the current style, there will be a new game style and we will be back where we are now.
